Dear 343 Industries,
I understand how the usual fps game work. I know that one either gets the kill or gets the assist. On that note, I just want to say, as one who is quite fond the halo franchise, that the assists you get in this game is ridiculous. I do all kinds of work strafing, keeping from dying, working hard to get the kill and someone just runs up, gets their headshot and their 15 points while I get 5 for the assist. I know that their is very little that can be done to the game, but still the ease of someone stealing your kill while we get the assist and they get the who 15 point kill, That honestly has to be one of the biggest middle fingers I’ve ever seen in my life. Is there anything that could be done to the assist making them either harder to get or even at least? Because there should never be games where I get more assist than kills. Halo is not your usual fps and I just want to keep it that way

I get annoyed with it also because I think that a assists should count for more.
However, the kill shot is king.
Also, I find it you are active enough things balance out.
Yesterday, I fired one bullet at a warthog and got a triple kill…
Battlefield has a nice system for giving points to assists.
I’m actually fine with receiving five points for an assist since a generic kill is only worth five points more.
ideally it would take into account the amount of damage done by each player and reward accordingly…however that would possibly make for a complex system and require system resources.
ie) you make 4 head shots and someone makes 1 head shot for the kill, you would get 80% of the points because you did 80% of the damage, so say 8 points and then the person that stole the kill could get 2 points plus maybe a bonus for the kill?
I completed my “Assistant” commendation mastery really early after the games release!
I still get “Wingman” awards!
I would very much like to see something done about giving credit where credit is due! I’ve lost a LOT of kills because of “Assists”!
It’s more annoying 3v1. You score 3 shots, team mates A and B score 1 shot each. Team mate A gets the kill and team mate B gets the assist.
Why be irritated at assists outside of FFA? This is a team game otherwise. High number of assists means you were a good team mate and was contributing a lot towards your team’s victory. High assists justifies having less kills and/or a negative spread that match whether or not other players recognize that.

This is what Battlefield is like. The health system is /100 Health Point (HP). If I take an opponent down to 2/100 HP, I will get 98 points for the assist.
I do however disagree with your point about making the kill worth less score if the opponent is already weakened. A kill is a kill and should always be worth at least 10 points. The only thing that should be altered, and I’m not saying it should be at all, should be an increase or decrease in the amount of points a player gets for an assist according to damage done.
Suggestions
Play SWAT - less likely to get assists v kills
Play Object - focus on the win instead of kills
Attain rank 130 - then the points don’t matter.
You dont the kill points because you didnt get the kill.
Simple.
Get over it.
Assists are fine… I base my whole game off of assisting others and having others assist my kills. Sometimes you get the kill sometimes you don’t but it’s always best to shoot at any enemy you see(within reasonable context… range and where they are heading may affect whether or not shooting is worth it). I hate when people cherry pick the whole game(which I’m fine with) and then scream “YOU STOLE MY KILL” if I assist them one time. I stop trying and pray that we lose. It’s a team game, If I’m in decent position to shoot the other team, I’m shooting at the other team.
This is the first game where you get more than just a medal for an assist, stop being such a whiny baby and help your team win.
yes that is true but you killed them for the most part and you did the work to kill them and they just run it and take it. Don’t say that after long work of trying to kill someone wouldn’t piss you off even the tiniest bit
u rage cuz someone stole ur kills
while i raged some time ago cuz no one stoled my kills to get my assist commendation for getting a visor (today i have the commendation)
this life is full of surprises
Well you probably steal peoples kills too…so I guess you have nothing to rage about.
I have more assists than deaths. While it’s true that I am more of a support player than a tank, that shouldn’t ever be the case.
It goes both ways for me with assist cause afterall we are all shooting at the enemy team. That said somtimes it seems like other players deliberately hang back shadowing me to get cheap kills while I do the hard stuff.I dont like that.
This brings to mind a question I’ve yet to ask but have pondered a good deal.
How does the assist system work in Halo 4? I can tell from playing that it now counts any damage dealt at all by the assisting player, rather than previous games where a % of the victim’s health needed to be taken e.g. a single AR bullet by player A on player C would score an assist if player B then sniped player C.
My question is this: if player A shoots player E once, then player B shoots player E twice, then player C shoots player E once dropping player E’s shield, then player D kills player E, who gets the assist? Player A, B or C? Does player A get it as he had the first shot before the kill, does player B get it because he dealt the most damage, or does player C get it as he had the last shot before the kill?
I’m fairly sure player A gets it as he intiliased the attack, but I’m not certain.

I think its C.

So you think it’s perfectly fair when you jack a Mantis/Scorpion and wreck it with a planted grenade, only nets you an assist because some looser shot its foot with a pistol as it was exploding.

That’s like making a 3point shot in basketball, and giving the points to the guy who caught the ball after it went through the hoop.
