I want to change the view of assist. Assist should be a good thing. I hear too many times when people complain, oh he stole my kill, while I get the badge “Protector” because I saved someone from death. Assists are good, they are not anyone stealing your kill. Okay maybe some people, but for me. It means I got your back. I’m mainly a support player. I provide a constant spawn zone for my teammates, and I try to stay at a distance, but be your guardian angel. I Assist You. Because that’s what the Team Does. Assist each other. Random logic is weird to me, lol.

Yoinking aside I’m with you.
I consider myself an above average Halo player and I’ve been playing for a long time. To me what’s important is lots of assists and minimal deaths (for slayer). That’s what you should strive for in slayer gametypes. If you can find a way to get lots of shots on people, get them weak, and stay alive, then you will be good at this game.
Here’s how I break down post game carnage reports for myself and others:
21 kills, 13 assists, 5 deaths = awesome game, hard to achieve.Anything better than this is a GREAT game. You got lots of kills, got lots of others weak for kills, and did a good job at staying alive.
21 kills, 3 assists, 5 deaths= still a very good game, though not quite as good because you basically cleaned up a lot of kills (unless your total team assists were low in general) and you still managed to stay alive.
21 kills, 8 assists, 21 deaths = well you still went even, had a fair amount of assists, died a lot but still ended up even. In games I’ve had like this it’s very run and gun, fast paced, lots of kills and lots of deaths. Not necessarily bad or great.
9 kills, 15 assists, 12 deaths= Not the worst game ever, although I view any game I have where I’m negative as a bad game. But these stats show that you were still active and getting lots of shots on people. Definitely forgivable.
9 kills, 15 assists, 7 deaths= I’ve had lots of games like this. In the end, I achieved my goal of having lots of assists while remaining positive. This is a solid game.
5 kills, 10 assists, 15 deaths= You need to play smarter. You’re putting yourself in bad positions whether you have lots of assists or not. Negative 10 is bad no matter what. We all have had games like this, it’s not fun.
5 kills, 4 assists, 15 deaths= What the hell are you even doing. This to me screams you’re not paying attention to where your teammates are and you’re just running in and dying.
In general, if you have lots of assists I see it as generally forgivable to go negative 1 or 2 or mayybbeee 3. If you go negative and don’t have lots of assists then it’s not as forgiveable.
So yeah that’s about how I break it down. Note that these are just scenarios for slayer games. Objective is a little different. I’ve been in games where we ve gotten brutally outslayed and won, and been in games where we’ve outslayed them and lost.

Now this I agree with. They really need to take it out of FFA. Because it ruins the game. You know how many times I could have won an FFA match? When I have 20 assist and I am not already winning the game in FFA. Lol.

Agreed OP, the only time people think it’s a bad thing in Slayer are when they’re selfish and just call it “kill stealing” when they should be looking at it as “team killing”. As long as your team gets the point it shouldn’t matter.

For example, in the warzone post-game carnage report it tells you how many assists you got, and you would think that if they’re bothering to count then they must be important, right? Who wouldn’t leap to that conclusion? Especially when the new metric-of-the-hour is KDA? When, however, you’re in the game and you’re watching your personal score, watch very carefully what happens to it after an assist. The answer, in case you’re too busy to check right now or don’t already know, is nothing. You get nothing for an assist. I don’t know about you, but to me that’s the definition of a mixed message. I can’t be bothered to figure out whether other players think they’re awesome or terrible because I’m too busy trying to figure out if 343 thinks they’re awesome or terrible.

This is my base line, I try never to drop under this if at all possible. Anything lower and I am stressing out, at least with an even KD and the assists I did not hurt the team.

This is a very valuable point that I agree with. It be nice if those support players got…a bit more credit
