Assault WAS a gametype in Halo 4.

I could post pics, but it’s not that hard. It’s really easy also. Go into Forge, go to Ragnarok, look for mongeese to the side of the bases. There will be one or two not actually on the base, like the little nest on the right of the water side base if you’re looking out to middle. Go to gametype label, you should see ‘BLAM_SYM’.

We know that Halo’s filter word for naughty words is BLAM. The first three letters for an abbreviation of Assault is -Yoink-.

I think it makes sense, I mean, what other gametype begins with a bad word so the abbreviation would be BLAM’d?

Saw a similar post on THC. Was that you?

Anyway, I can’t fathom why Assault was excluded. And what baffles me is that Griffball is in! Wasn’t Griffball Assaultto begin with?!

Yeah, that was me.

I know, Grifball WAS a variant of Assault in the past. Crazy stuff man, I don’t even want to hear the excuse why Assault was cut. They had the small details of gametype specific items like those mongeese down and everything.

Many things are in Halo 4’s code or its DLC. Doesn’t mean it was finished and ready to go.

The unused AA “Hacker” and there is even the old DMR model within the files of the DLC map Harvest.

Which kind of makes me think they had been working on the map for such a long time they didn’t even have their own sandbox in functioning order at the start, so the map was developed alongside the disc maps…but it was priced DLC anyway. Le sigh.

The covenant scarab construction area took a long time to be released and yet we knew about it for a long time.

In both Halo 3 and Halo: Reach, Grifball was an Assault based gametype, yes. In Halo 4, it was given it’s own base gametype for a variety of reasons. I don’t know where Assault went. :frowning:

  1. Blam! is the name of their game engine. Halo 3 and up have run on 3rd generation Blam!

  2. The assault bomb is in no map file in the game. If it was a gametype, it’s been long removed.

Assault? You mean reverse capture the flag?

Honestly though. Dominion is a fine replacement for it. Extraction is territories.
Dominion is Assault.

Having Territories &/or Assault in there also would be a bit redundant. Remember the temporary trading mark they used? “Halo 4: Halo Evolved”.

I honestly do NOT understand how Grifball was made an actual game type, I don’t know anyone who actual enjoys it except for padding.

You should really be asking where “Race” or “Chess” is. Those were fun.

Actually i think you may find, if you open your eyes a little, that there is a massive Grifball community out there including myself, that enjoy grifball for the sport it always has been. AGLA, NGA, GGL and the EUGBL are just a few of the grifball leagues.

Still dont think the community is high enough? Check grifballhub.com and see just how many people have signed up then add that to the other league forums. Not to mention the first Halo 4 grifball league attracted over 600 teams. Thats 2400 people at a minimum of 4 people per team. Now you have to bare in mind that nearly all these teams had at least 6 players on their rosters taking this total to 3600 people in the first ever grifball league.

Now ill take you back to you comment…

NOW try and say that. You may not know anyone but that doesnt mean the community isnt widespread and massive.

Too bad h4 grifball is nothing like grifball. At least reach kept the same basic premise as the original, and best, halo 3 version.

LOL what? The engine for scripting gametypes which is where Assault would be coded is called Megolo.

3600 isn’t enough to incorporate it as a built in game type. It worked fine before, I’m not implying people don’t/won’t play. I’m just saying, I think the round based, non ball throwing version was better.

I mean, it’s basically Assault just with melee weapons, no?

I would wager that all the map packs for this “season” were complete prior to Halo 4s launch. I thought this as soon as i heard DLC plans before the game even came, when they wont add forge maps to increase DLC sales i thought as much again, the fact the DLC maps contains old code pretty much confirms it.

Megalo is the scripting engine. Blam! is the game engine. Moron.

I still find it utterly baffling that Griffball made into H4 and yet Assault didn’t. Assault has been in Halo, in some form at least, since H1. For me its the counterpart to CTF.

With H4 we have CTF changed beyond recognition with weird bizarre rules that strip all strategy and freedom from the game and Assault is just missing altogether. Double slap to the face.

I’d love to know the thinking behind bringing Griffball into H4 as its own thing and putting the bomb out to pasture.
