Assault Rifle tips?

I love the Assault Rifle in all Halos. I’d say it’s my favorite weapon. Somehow, I’m just more comfortable with it than precision guns. I also liked the Plasma Repeater and now the new Suppressor. But I’m having some trouble mastering the AR in Halo 4 War Games. A lot of the time, it seems like it just can’t compete with the BR and DMR. Maybe I’m shooting too far away or not getting the jump on them? I don’t know. Would anyone have some Assault Rifle tips?

Spray and pray like a motherf***er and don’t stop until you see ‘+15’ on your screen, -Yoink!-!

I’m not a big AR user, but as far as I know you just need to stay in close range, where you’re effective, and master burst shooting your rifles.

You have to get the first shots off. It’s a basic principle in Halo even among precision weapons. With the much needed buff to automatics in Halo 4, you just need to get closer. If you are at ranged, you are -Yoinked!- unless you switch to a precision weapon.

I myself use the Storm Rifle. Supressor is good (bloom is horrible though) as well as the AR but something about the Storm Rifle clicks with me. I don’t mind that i have to lead my targets but i found it beats ARs (barely) if you land every shot.

Plus the feeling of properly managing heat is awesome a good one. Just like any automatic, think before you commit. Don’t spray and pray, that’s the best way to die.

I love the Battle Rifle/DMR in all Halos. I’d say it’s my favorite weapon. Somehow, I’m just more comfortable with it than noob automatic guns. I also liked the Sniper Rifle and now the new Sticky Detonator. But I’m having some trouble mastering the BR/DMR in Halo 4 War Games. A lot of the time, it seems like it just can’t compete with the AR and ordinance. Maybe I’m shooting too far away or not getting the jump on them? I don’t know. It’s not as accurate as I’d like, Halo 3’s AR was pretty good on accuracy I think. At the very least 343 should speed up the gun’s bloom recovery the level of the SAW’s crosshairs so burst firing it is all the more effective.

That’s terrible advice since you only get 32 shots in a mag. You might have been able to pull that off in CE with the 60 round buzzsaw but here you’ll run out too fast.

Ranges-
Medium = 1-3 round bursts to maximize accuracy, keep to cover to make yourself a harder target to hit.
Close = Longer bursts to just holding the trigger, the larger your target is in the large crosshair the longer you can fire.

Don’t walk towards dudes with automatic weapons? Something that totally f*cks me when I’m trying to kill a dude with the AR is if he starts walking away from me. It may seem like commen sense, but most people just jump or go side to side. That doesn’t really work when the other dude has a full auto wep, or it doesn’t work on me. Just start going backwards while still trying to land all the h-shots. I promise it’ll at least help a little.

It helps if you have other means of taking down shields until you’re at a good range. Here are a couple of examples:

1.) Class with Explosives and Grenadier and toss lots of grenades.

2.) Use a charged up Plasma Pistol first and then switch to AR.

3.) Class with Firepower and a Storm Rifle as your secondary to weaken people’s shields somewhat before you engage with the AR (which will have a full clip then).

I am an AR expert (check my stats) and Ill give you some advice.

For one, this is not a spray and pray weapon unless you are just barely outside of melee range.

To get the most out of this weapon, you need to learn to burst fire in even bursts. At midrange, you will be outclassed by a BR or DMR if you both start shooting first. However, if you get the first shot, you need to fire bursts of two bullets at them. Once their shields are down, you need to calculate whether you should keep bursting or go for longer bursts which will put more bullets into your target but reduce your accuracy and cause too many shots to miss.

Quite honestly, this gun takes more skill than people give it credit for. The actual crossairs when you are burst firing are about the size of the BR’s crossairs. You have to get those tiny things on an enemy at mid range and pull the trigger lightly and consistently in order to have any chance to land your shots.

The “skill” part of this weapon not only comes in pacing your shots but also your placement as well. You need to do whatever you can to get the first shot off on your enemy or you will lose.

Even in close quarters, if a DMR user gets the first shot off on you, you will die.

You need to focus on stealth and sticking to cover until you are between close to mid range. If you get in a firefight with somebody, make sure you circle strafe just like you would with a precision weapon.

A word of warning, just because your reticule turns red does not mean your bullets will land anywhere near the enemy. The outside corners of your reticule only serve to show where maximum bloom will be. The real crossairs are the tiny ones in the center. You can cross map people if you are good enough to get those tiny crossairs on an enemy without much help with aim assist.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

Thank you so much.

Best tip I can give you is to hold down the Right Trigger.

Yeah… that doesn’t work well.

I always fire in short and quick bursts, unless I’m going head to head with a hunter, at close range, then I unload my magazines.
