I completely disagree. No one weapon is perfect for all situations. I find having the right gun at the right time is critical. You need to constantly switch weapons depending on your situation. I used to be so stubborn with only using my magnum the whole time for all situations. I now try to switch to the AR in certain situations and find the gun is amazing if you can close the distance to the enemy spartan. Granted when you play HCS game types then you better be good with the magnum at close range.

Depends on the situation. Tap firing the AR at head level can take someone out with less worry about missing shots than a magnum at close range. Usually I use the AR as a secondary in Slayer but there are some areas on some maps where I prefer it. Also AR then melee is a deadly combo if timed well.
Up close, unless you’re a perfect shot with the magnum, the AR will win, especially if most shots land in the head. It used to be 100% magnum superiority when H5 came out and for some time after until 343 tweaked the weapons so they are more purpose-driven. Outside of close range, the AR is mostly useless, though even at medium range it’s fairly accurate if you’re scoped in and controlling your aim.
The AR is very effective during the first round of firefight if you’re a bad shot with the magnum.

Aim for the head AFTER the shields pop. To my knowledge there is no benefit of a head shot while they still have a shield. When the spartan has no shields then its faster to kill by aiming for the head.
It’s not excatly useless. You just have to know when to use it. One mistake most make is they just try spray the opponent down. It’s best to burst fire the weapon and try to aim for the head to get those head shot damage multipliers and it’s definitely best at a close range.

I have to disagree. The magnum may not be “PERFECT” for all situations but if you had a choice for what gun you would use in all situations which would you choose? I’ll let that sink in, alright what did you choose. Ah, yes the magnum of course, excellent choice sir.

You must not be using it right. Try using it at close range and see what happens.
I’ve never used any weapon other than the assault rifle. So it’s not useless.
I always do really well with the AR if I’m flanking an enemy and getting up real close. The magnum for sure has the advantage in medium to long-range fights.
Burst fire on it is amazing try it. Halo 4’s assault rifle was good. Hopfully in Halo infinite the Magnum wont always be used. I feel some weapons are never used in H5 storm rifle is one imo.

That seems to be the case for most weapons in comparison to the magnum.

There is no benefit at shooting the head while the enemy has shields, you are correct. In saying this, if your hitting the head thy entire time, once there shields drop your ridicule is already there to get that kill. Where as if it isn’t, that split second to move it to there head could very likely mean death.

The AR isn’t useless at all in my opinion. Just need to know when to use it. Now, the SMG on the other hand…

Halo 5 may be the first game in the series where that has ever been given as advice. Also, yeah, the H5 AR is definitely a more accurate weapon than most of the previous incarnations, and as long as you are using short controlled bursts at medium distances before closing the gap with full auto or melee, you should be just fine. Now, if you decide to go full auto at medium distances or greater, however, then you’re not using it right. That’s what the Needler and the Forerunner Suppressor are for.

It’s better to use the assault rifle in close range of the enemy. If you see someone farther away, you should use the magnum. I find the assault rifle to be pretty good when it’s used that way, and can get kills just fine.
The AR isn’t useless but I would say that the magnum often is the better choice.
