is there an actual reason why we can’t get head-shots with the assault rifle… or is it just for Game-play reasons?

I would really like to be able to get head-shots with the AR…

Probably just gameplay reasons.

The DMR fires a 7.62 caliber bullet.

You can get headshots with the AR. What you can’t get is a headshot medal. And for that reason, it’s not to do with gameplay, it’s to do with statistics.

It’d be really easy just to spray the AR and pick up headshot medals and that’s why they aren’t rewarded.

None of the high-rate-of-fire, fully-automatic weapons can get headshots. Tis one of the many rules of Halo.

you can’t get headshots with the AR… i’ve tested it… shooting at someone with popped shields in the foot does the same amount as damage as shooting them in the head with the AR.

I hope for Halo 4 that you can get increased damage with the AR on an opponent’s head if their unshielded. Not instant kill, maybe double damage.

Just make sure bullet magnetism doesn’t magnetize to the HEAD hitbox and we got ourselves a winner.

That depends on what you mean by “headshot”.

  1. You can literally “hit the head” with bullets, and therefore get a “headshot”;
  2. To the best of my knowledge, there is no additional multiplier for hitting the head with an automatic weapon;
  3. This is for gameplay reasons, and does not reflect a similar scenario in reality;
  4. In reality, tearing through an opponent’s thorax (specifically the heart) would have roughly the same result as disrupting the brainstem.

If the AR was headshot capable, many gods would be born on that day. You could practically run through the entire campaign using the AR. Even the H3 one…

Same thing with the plasma rifle (but even without headshot capability, the thing is a monster in the right hands).
