I fundamentally disagree with this stance I have skilled friends and I have unskilled friends who are new to halo and new players like these friends lay on the trigger and get next to no kills with the AR.
when it comes to the BR in a skilled players hands its considerably better then the AR, the only difference is that in this game skilled players can also use the AR and unskilled players who think holding a BR means I deserve to win this fight get upset and come post that the AR is too good, if that were the case not everyone would rush the BR spawn at the start of the match.
I think the most you can say about the AR is that it’s ranged accuracy needs to be decreased. Otherwise the weapon is fun and I enjoy how useful it is.
The problem with the post made is that there’s no way an AR beats a BR medium to long range. I hate to be that guy but you gotta work on your aim, I pick up a BR and get a killing spree no sweat. I’ve even beat people that are using the AR with a sidekick, and it melts them faster than they can kill me especially if I get a perfect. It all comes down to who has more skill, I haven’t complained about a single weapon in the game yet because I overcome it with skill. Though the sniper 3-shotting vehicles is BS, that’s about the only complaint I have.
it was never a case of range, but skill requirement, the BR requires skill and as such should be able to beat anything at any range with enough skill. the AR requires no skill and as such should be very weak to force players into using other tools in their arsenal. Players should be forced to use grenades or melee to get kills with the AR or hit weak targets, not run in a straight line while holding RT.
Honestly? No. Not at all. And it didn’t need a nerf during the flights either. I think you guys are just comparing it to the wrong weapons, most of which kind of suck. The BR, for example, is not meant to be good at AR ranges, and the Sidekick just sucks (especially on controller). I’m glad the AR has improved beyond the ‘throwaway weapon’ it was before Halo 5.
Currently, the AR has a optimal ttk of 1.25s. 12 shots to shielded targets and 3 to the head. Since the AR isn’t as accurate as the BR at range, headshots would be a lot harder and that where the BR comes in.
The body TTK for the AR comes to 1.65s. 12 shots to the shields and 8 to the body; placing it just above the BRs optimal 1.55s. This difference allows skilled BR users room to capitalize on the BRs strengths at longer ranges.
It’s simply just not as easy to do so in this installment of Halo.
the AR was perfectly fine in H4, H3 and CE. They required the player to use their brain for more than a second and do more than run straight at an enemy player while holding RT. Halo isn’t balanced around weapon ranges, it’s balanced around skill and the AR requires none.
The AR isn’t forced to fight the BR at range, so making the AR dominant at close range means most combat will take place at close range and the AR is supremely OP for the amount of skill it asks. Halo isn’t balanced around weapon range, so the AR should be weak as it should force the player to use other tools to assist it.
It is a really reliable start weapon. In H2, H3 and Reach you have BR/DMR that was too powerful and useful in almost any situation so every other weapon didn’t find a place in the “sandbox”.
Here, even if it is powerful and reliable, the AR can help you get away in many combat situations but it will never excel in any of them. In contrast the BR is a mid-long range weapon, it shouldnt be natural to use that weapon in close combat.
The AR has never been useless, it just required more than 10 braincells to use. You know you have grenades and melee right? the AR was always balanced around the player using those.
I don’t play H5, Bungie made the AR weak on purpose so players would do more than just run in a straight line and hold down RT. H3’s AR is the most balanced in the series, weak but easy to use, infinite’s AR is easy to use and destroys everything at close and medium range.
Have an actual argument to refute me, spamming what I said back to me only makes me the winner since I actually have a point. The AR is broken plain and simple, many things could be done to fix it but at the end of the day it should be weak as to encourage more weapon swapping and a better sandbox.
It may not look like it, but I take arguments like these pretty seriously. This isn’t some game to me.
I told you exactly what you need to know. I listed the kill times, bullets to kill and I can look up even more info on the sandbox. You are the one who came here with an attitude. I’m trying to be civil with you and you had to take it a step further.
We have people trying to get the sidekick nerfed when it’s thebweakest weapon in the game, people trying to turn then AR into a paperweight. All because they’re getting killed due to a lack of their own self-awareness.
I’m not trying to be mean but this is getting ridiculous. And you have to nerve to bring some backwards “I win the argument” bs. I’m trying to give feedback for this game here.
What this not enough for you? I outlined my argument in this post. I don’t need to say anything else.
I think it’s perfect. So first maybe its different I play on PC with MKB. I have about 40 hours and that is mostly playing Ranked and am a diamond 3 atm.
So technically the AR has a faster TTK with hitting all shots perfectly then the BR. But in order to do that you have to be up really close and even when it is spraying and the shields finally taken down it takes 2 shots to the head to kill. I mean when shields are down it feels like a pea shooter. Getting 2 shots to the head with the AR is super hard between the RNG spray and hitting your shots right. And I am at diamond 3 and idk if I have ever been killed with the AR on the maps where it spwans. No one picks it up because it isn’t has reliable where the BR can me used way better it most scenarios. Also another point is the AR is really bad is a 1v2 scenario, BR is better for fighting mutiple people at once. AR runs out of ammo easy compared to the DMG you do with BR. Also you have to keep in mind grenades If you pop a shield with a grenade the BR is way better. The current status of it make it fun because it can be used in unique scenarios which is how a game should be. I feel like most people who think it’s broken just play QP and don’t have as much practice yet with the BR.
TTK doesn’t matter when the weapon requires no skill and dominates other weapons at close to medium range, it can’t be descoped, has a headshot multiplier and an insane rate of fire meanwhile having a large reticle to hold on an enemy. The AR is not supposed to be good weapon, it’s a starting weapon and thus should be low on the power scale.
