I don’t think the BR should beat the AR in all situations akin to Halo 3.

The AR should beat the BR in close, and maybe have it be a tie in mid.

I do think this AR is one of the most powerful we’ve seen so I’m interested to know if a nerf is coming, but the BR has retained its Halo 5 Weapon Tuning status as a tactical rifle for mid-range combat instead of the utility weapon it was for years, so it should excel in certain situations (mid), but not all.

With that comment, I believe you don’t know what a strawman argument is… read the OP again.

There are on-map pick ups to counter ARs in close-mid range if you need to defend against a forced closer engagement.

I think that the assault rifle should be able to contend with the AR at close ranges and beat CQB weapons at medium range, but easily lose to the BR at longer range and lose to CQB weapons up close. However, at this point, the AR seems to win most battles against most guns in most situations, which is not good. The AR should be a good enough starting weapon to be competitive, but you should want to swap it out for other weapons as you play a life out. There’s basically no reason to drop the AR right now.

Definitely needs a nerf. It shouldn’t beat a BR easily at mid range. The ROF needs decreased, add bloom and vertical recoil. Pretty much make it like the h3/reach AR and then I think it would be good.

Plus it doesn’t have deacons which is just weird and gives it a huge advantage.

Up close make it a beast but mid range it needs to be dialed back, not useless but make you earn those ranged kills and remove the headshot modifier

Sidekick beats AR though, like damn can you spam with this thing on the shields and finish off with that one headshot. Weapons you can pick up just arent all that, I use BR for long range and sidekick for close/medium

You attempt to force the arguement into a range issue when it’s an effective range dps issue. AR doesn’t suffer enough of a penalty for full sending at medium range. There is no tradeoff for the AR, it has decent range and relatively high dps with minimal player mechanical skill needed to achieve its optimal ttk.

The AR is specifically supposed to excel at short to mid range. The BR is a multitool that does great work at pretty much any range (melee + headshot combo comes to mind), but works best at mid to long range. I think the balance between the two weapons is fine as is.

If they put starting weapon in ranked an assault rifle that will be bonkers Halo has always been a hard competitive game look at hce 3 shot with a pistol was sick and a beast look at the assault rifle on hce the damaged on that was perfect too look at h3 assault rifle was really good at close range I’m saying that the halo infinite assault rifle is just abit to powerful in my opinion it just needs to be toned down a little winning br fights at close range was so fun even if you lost a battle

Side kick pistol is a beast!!! Even tho it isn’t a 3 shot like hce it’s so fun to use

I don’t get why so many people try to hold H3’s AR as a Golden Standard. The AR Sucked in that game! It was completely useless outside of shooting a couple shots then melee. We do not want that back.

I think it’s fine as it is. You can beat it with a BR if you hit shots close range and it’s definitely better than AR mid to long range.

Personally, I feel like the AR is in the prefect spot. It is capable of beating any non-power weapon if you leverage the other weapon’s weakness. It does everything a starting weapon should without encroaching on the roles of pick-up weapons.

halo 5 had 36
Ce had 60
reach had 32

there is NOTHING wrong with a 36 round ar

I think the power is actually fine; at close range the AR should be even with the BR which right now, is about where it’s at. The BR should have the advantage only if it’s used strategically by the player, which means using it from long range. Trouble is, the AR has almost no damage dropoff so using it from far enough away on small maps is really, really difficult. I think the power should remain but spread should be higher, so from farther away the AR because less powerful. This would also help with getting melted in 2v1s all the time.

I see this a lot but I don’t have trouble killing AR players with a BR. Just play smart, keep your distance and they don’t stand a chance.
The BR is a mid range beast that can do well at short range.
The AR is a short range beast that can do well at mid range.

Definitely needs a nerf at range 100%. I’ve still beaten players using one with a br at mid to close many times. But anything anything other than close to close-mid shouldn’t be rewarded. It’s not halo.

There is honestly a comical link between players that are defending the AR and their level of skill. The two guns play two different roles BUT the AR is a bit too good as it is now and diminishes the skill gap in multiplayer. The gun should not be completely useless, however it does way too much damage and punches well above its weight at range. A slight nerf on range and damage will put it in a sweet spot to where it is still viable but no overpowered.
