Alright, I’m a bit confused on some things, does anyone know what they have changed on these weapons since the beta? What role does the DMR serve?
Will the assault rifle stand a chance against the battle rifle? Is the battle rifle anywhere near as overpowered as the h2 anniversary one?
Sorry for my ignorance just wanted to get a few of these things cleared up.
Halo 5 is not a one-gun game. The BR is still the go-to gun, but the AR will destroy it at close range (as it should). The AR is incredible in this game.
The SMG was a bit over powered in the beta, but I think they said they toned it down (it was like the SAW).
The SAW, by the way, is in the game, but wasn’t in the beta, so I have no idea.
The Magnum is very powerful but difficult to aim, so if you’re a good enough shot, you can dominate with it. It also has a high rate of fire.
The DMR is still the DMR; great at range. I’m personally pretty lousy with it, so I didn’t use it much.
The Lightrifle is a power weapon now (kinda) … while scoped it kills in three shots.
The Rocket Launcher got a complete redesign, but it works the same.
The Hydra is tricky to use, but when scoped it locks on to Spartans and fires grenades or rockets or something that track them down. The cool thing is, you can lock onto someone, then fire the thing at the sky and it works like a heat seeking mortar.
Let’s see … what else was there? Oh, sniper rifle. It’s the Halo sniper. Halo 4 design, same function as always.
Precision weapons are no longer the dominant weapon of choice in Halo 5, and that is a good thing IMO. They did give the AR a slight nerf but they did increase its mag size to compensate. Other then that MrMartini85 pretty much summed it up lol.

I heard they actually buffed the magnum and I’m totally cool with it.

Good write up
Last time I played it.
The SMG was basically a mid-range SAW.
The Assault Rifle was a starter SMG. Pretty good at times, but if anyone had the SMG, then they were somehow getting outgunned at a longer range quicker. KInda a weird role reversal.
The Magnum was alright, but low on ammo. Not much in the mag, but just enough to finish someone off someone or get one kill.
The Light Rifle is powerful, but still takes skill.
The DMR is still great at range. Might kill around the same time as the BR. The DMR might kill quicker. Never got a good test on it though. It’s kinda hard to tell. The BR does have a significantly shorter range because of the bullet spread though.

To be more accurate, auto weapons are no longer garbage.
Even in the Beta, the balance was pretty good and it looks as though things have only improved. In terms of effective range it seems to SMG->AR->Pistol->BR->DMR where the DMR has the range and consistent damage, the BR/Pistol outdamage it at mid-range, and the SMG/AR are attractive close range choices. You are not going to be out-shooting precision weapons at mid range with an AR, but it does fufill its close-mid range niche.
That said I’m still not quite sure how the Pistol and BR are balanced in relation to each other. The Pistol got a slight rof nerf, but it now seems to be a 4 shot so I believe it will retain a faster killtime than the BR, so will the BR simply be longer range, lower DPS similar to the DMR(though will be more effective at even greater ranges)?
Unfortunately we have not seen a whole lot of BR vs Magnum gameplay in the recent Warzone videos since it was filled with Press who ran around with ARs in the open.
The Halo 2 Anniversary BR is not overpowered, everything else is underpowered.
Well it seems confirmed that the Lightrifle is the go-to weapon for all situations. Close Range, Mid Range, and Long Range. We have a new superior weapon on the field and this should be the new meta for professional Halo players
So the light rifle is a 3 hit kill weapon now? Headshots or bodyshots or either?
Also let me get this straight, we all spawn with the same weapons now correct? No loadouts etc? fair spawns? for arena of course, not warzone.

Last one has to be a headshot, I think. But apparently you get a much faster kill if you use the scoped shot once and then two unscoped shots to finish them off, as it has a higher fire rate.

I’ve been here, and I knew about it I just wanted to confirm and double check.
