So go play MCC then?
Assassinations didn’t come till late and its not what makes halo great. Don’t get me wrong I am not against them but Halo will do fine without if that’s what they decide.

They aren’t in the game yet but they are trying to rework assassinations into something that a prop player wouldn’t be upset with doing accidentally. In the past, assassinations took too long and gave no reward vs the faster back smack, and having the same button for both meant sometimes you’d go for a backsmack, accidentally hold it too long, assassinate someone, and die because of it.
Assassinations need some kind of safety built into them, or some kind of reward. Perhaps assassinating someone gives you a small bit of over shielding (which still decays), just enough to absorb an extra round. If someone goes on an assassination spree they can rack up extra shielding, making continued assassination attempts safer. Or perhaps getting an assassination causes your shield to constantly regen during the duration so you’re not totally vulnerable during the assassination, but you’re not completely invulnerable either. Just suggestions, that i’m sure someone at 343 has thought of and are trying currently.

I know it’s the standard cop out answer nowadays but I’ve literally said it since Reach: Make it a toggle.
Pro players would just turn it off and anybody thinking a flashy animation warrants the risk of getting Yoinked is still welcome to do so.
The other solution is to just force players to keep holding the melee button during the animation. If you get shot in the meantime, you could just let go and it reverts to a regular smackback.
As a longtime fan, I actually completely disagree with you in this. Assassinations are essentially like boasts in a fighting game. They put you in harm’s way in order to really rub the death in a players face. It’s meant to be insulting and over the top, it should stay that way.
I think the novelty of assassinations wore off for me in the Reach era. They were cool to see but I don’t consider it a core Halo mechanic. I’d be fine with them adding them again as well if you could toggle them off.
assassinations are lame, backtaps are where it’s at. I’m glad 343 decided against assassinations.
I think having them be a toggle in the settings makes sense. If you want to use them and potentially put yourself in harm’s way you have that option.
If you don’t want them you don’t have to use them.
Best of both worlds.
Perhaps there is a middle ground to assassinations as well? In the event that a melee to the back would occur and kill the player, it lets you play a tweaked but slightly more elaborate melee animation.

I’m also really hoping to see Assassinations come back. If not in MP, at least in Campaign. They were a great, immersive addition that I would be very disappointed to lose.

They said they are coming back just not at launch unfortunately. Hopefully they are added quickly.
