in halo 5 we saw no new assassinations. the assassinations look better with halo 5 models imo but i was hoping for new ones. even in hcs we see a part of an assassination that is a halo 4 one. Here is a link to a halo 5 assassination. a not so new assassination

I’d like to see some of the stylish knife work you do on enemies in campaign to player spartans for some extra assassinations.

In any case, I’m pretty sure the beta assassinations were placeholders. A lot of aesthetic elements were missing from the beta, as it was so early. No blood FX, no ragdoll on corpses after they came to a halt the first time, and, of course, only 720p. I’m pretty sure there’ll be new ones on release.
There are a lot of ways a Spartan can kill with their bare hands on the battlefield, but they’re only going to use the most tactically efficient methods. As long as the assassinations remain quick and easy kills I’m cool with it. But if 343 starts having brain-storming sessions and try to get too creative with it we could end up with Mortal Kombat fatalities which would just be lame. I’d rather have fewer assassinations than big elaborate ones.
Maybe there will be some new assassinations added before the game releases. If not, I’m completely ok with it. I’m just really eager to play it!
My guess is that they’re just placeholders. Hopefully some more creative ones will be added at release, like one where your Spartan uses their thruster pack to launch at the opponent and stab/punch them.
Although, what really annoys me about the Spartan-IV’s assassinations is that there are never knives visible on the armour like there were in Reach. It just added an extra sense of realism.

Actually the knife is built into the Gen 2 armor, theirs a slot above the wrist gauntlet that houses it. I think escalation #3 showed this with palmer, but it was cool seeing the knife on your spartan in reach.
they need to eventually make them more gruesome
I want some new ones but if they don’t add any I’l be ok.

Oh, I must have missed that panel, thanks for clearing it up.
definitely placeholders, I would find it extremely lazy, if they use the h4 assassinations in the final version

There’s a better one. If you assassinate someone when they’re above you on some stairs from the correct angle, you can spin them around and stab them in the crotch. Priceless.
That said, there was something that always made me think H4 assassinations were better. The victim puts up a fight. You look at Reach ones and the victim just goes limp or lies on the ground, waiting you to finish them. Look at the H4 ground tackle. They’re clawing at your face, pushing, resisting until their last gasp. Now that’s cool.
The only thing I hope for assassinations is that if I can toggle it off. I don’t want to accidentally press the melee button too long and go on a cinematic that will probably kill me due to not being able to move.

Aside from the fact that reach assassinations felt like slow-motion, I found them to be more inspiring. My personal favourite is the one (pretty rare actually), where the elite dances with the spartan till he impales him.
