Lately, this feature seems difficult to control. In theory, simply TAPPING the melee button should grant you a simple beat down, while holding it a bit longer triggers the assassination. Yet, it seems like quite often I’ll go in for a simple beat down and still be forced into the assassination animation. Is their a way to guarantee a beat down over an assassination? Or is this a bug?
Thanks!
no idea but that -Yoink- pisses me off as well like i dont want to assassinate the dude just give me the beat down so i can move on
For a second I thought you wanted a feature that’s similar to the beat downs in Gears 3 but I think it has something to do with lag.

I would agree with you, but I mainly only play campaign and still have this problem. It’s gotten me killed quite a few times.
I’ve had this problem since Reach. I can’t even count how many times I’ve been screwed over by it. I wish they would just alter how it registers like making you double tap the bumper or something. There are times where I literally could not possibly tap the button for a shorter time and still get pulled into the assassination, and I remember times of holding it the entire time when I was going for the commendation, and it would just do a beatdown. Something’s messed up.
I can’t say I’ve had this problem.
Sometimes I’ll accidentally assassinate, but it WAS because I was holding the melee button too long. I’ve never actually assassinated when I tapped the button.
If you have the Stealth support upgrade active, simply tapping the melee button will result in an assassination, no beat downs. However, I’ve had this problem plenty of times, I don’t even use the stealth perk
I have no problem with assassinating or beat down. However, it does get kind of annoying if you want to beat someone down and instead assassinates the player.

Agreed. This has happened to me in campaign plenty of times. Its an even bigger pain when you’re going in to beat down a Knight surrounded by Crawlers, get pulled into an assassination, then get gunned down by his surrounding support.

Then you really want to avoid me in Rumble Pit or Regicide lol XD
I’ve just finished the assassination commendation and have had no issues
If I tapped melee I got a beat down, if I held it an assassination, if this is an issue for some 343 should address it
i don’t have that problem, never happend to me.
but normally if u press the button 1 sec u will get an assassination, if u want a beat down press it fast and let it go.
my only real problem with assassinations are the -Yoinks!- who stole the kill ._.
but… I ALWAYS GET MY REVENGE !!! LOL
I usually never assassinate people because I’m done with the commendation and it makes you vulnerable. The only time I’ll perform one is with the ball or flag and for executioner in regicide. But I’ll admit that sometimes I will get the same problem where I intend to just beat down but it forces me to assassinate instead.
I never have that problem, but assassinations shouldn’t be incentivised over the simple backsmack. They should both be given the same medal, and count towards commendations and challenges.
i never knew about the assassinations being a hold.
Personally, I think the margin of error for assassinations should be slightly increased rather than being so small.
A nice -Yoink- is always better than a beat.
I think it’s annoying when you try to beat someone down and it takes you into an assassination and some kid comes along and yoinks me…
The stealth perk is helpful though.
Those Ten year old yoinkers have no manners…
-Being yoinked is a fate far worse than death
Like somebody else already stated, double tapping your melee button should bring you into an assassination instead of holding it down. This wouldn’t make assassinations much harder to do and there wouldn’t be the problem of accidentally starting an assassination.
