Assassinations should still have never been removed

But what if they are scoped in for a head shot on whoever has thrown them to their doom. Attempting to trade…

I could be saving a team mate.

The way I see it is Assassinations and Death Effect are the new way to TB players and get away with it. But with 343 always lying to their community about everything it tells you even more that 343 only cares about making everything super competitive as much as possible. Which is why Halo has been dying over the years compared to other FPSG.

Here is a possible solution to ensure that Assassinations can come back without someone throwing a hissy fit about being stuck in an animation when they meant to go for a quick kill and then bolt for the next target.

Assassinations should return BUT as an aesthetic that pops in as a death animation that is seen only by the victim you killed.

You killed someone with a melee strike from behind?
The victim will then get to see a death animation play out instead of just watching their dead body rag-doll forwards.
Meanwhile the player who performed the kill will continue forwards without having to sit in the animation itself and then continue the fight.
So while on the Assassin’s screen you just smacked a dude and then immediately continue on to your next target, the guy who died will see a quick mokap-animation of a kill instead of your usual death-cam with a countdown timer. When the kill is done and fades to black, you respawn; allowing for each assassination kill to last within five-seconds and give you something entertaining to look at instead of just your dead body or your teammate’s POV.

Depending on which weapon you do it with will also alter the animation.
Perhaps even all deaths by melee would result in an assassination death animation instead of just melee kills from behind?
Your shields are broken and you get melee-killed from the front? You have a small animation where your character is knocked to the ground and a knife is plunged into them before the screen quick-fades to black and then you respawn.

The only mode you can actually see these death animations play out live in-game and can be interrupted would be the Assassin’s Tower gametype where the Assassination custom game becomes its own social dedicated playlist.

Thoughts anyone?

I mean, they could just back away from the ledge I suppose, instead of watching them fall like Mufasa.

Noooooo you do not do that! That’s such a great way to up your SBMM and CSR!

I absolutely love it though!

The Supernova assassination from Halo 5 is the pinnacle of human creation, tbh.

I can’t say that I’ve really been affected by their absence, but yeah… assassinations were cool. I’m not sure if their removal was due to 343 not having enough time to finish them before Infinite’s launch, but I hope they make a return in the future.

I think that just makes a more or less reason to turn off assassinations. You practically stunned your target from respawning longer

I say assassinations are part of a better cosmetic than respawn effects. Which, apparently also effect some players.

Overall, I don’t think a game should always be focusing on consistent gameplay. Thats what broken Infinite apart from other games and its past games as well: The fact that there was so little you can do in terms of gameplay.

I think a better choice would to make as assassination a rare arena shotcall, kind of like when you perform a NINJA or QUIGLY and the game calls it out for all players on the kill feed.

“This dude ASSASSINATED that dude”

No.
Instead of seeing your model rag-doll and then have the respawn timer; an Assassination would instead be shown in an animation that only the victim gets to see and the respawn timer countdown is still normal.

Its a good idea to make it faster but the person who got the assassination doesnt get to enjoy it as much and the reason most people buy cosmetics isnt to rub off but to make them look cooler, so that would kind of remove the feeling of an assassination.

With thie in mind, this neglects kill effects, and might as well add dewth animations instead of ragdolls.

We had the problem solved by 5, they had a toggle to turn off your ability to do them, even by accident. Showing them off was fun, if risky, and Halo is best when it’s not focused on pure MLG. Having them turned off like radar in ranked would be fair I suppose, but I still think they contributed to making the game fun to watch. Taunts in fighting games work the same, show off at your own peril.

I really, really hope they give some kind of customization to players pregame. My Spartan is hurting his neck every time he tries to look over up armored shoulder, and the shadowboxing looks too light.

I say it should have never been added. It’s a gameplay feature that temporarily removes you from gameplay, slowing things down and making you vulnerable.

They have mushroom stamping for a reason. No reason to add something else to squirt your testosterone on another player with.

I don’t really miss them that much, in terms of gameplay. 5 had some pretty neat ones though-- I can appreciate the creativity there.

I get the sentiment, personally i think it would be cool to have them in social, but keep the intant kill for competitive.

like Among Us? if im right on the killers end its just insta kill, but on the victim end they see the kill

the issue i see is respawn. will respawn be constant (ex back smack takes 5 seconds to respawn, but assassination is the TTK + 5 seconds?) or would the respawn counter start right when the animation starts?

I am proposing that the animation starts and the respawn starts in sync. So we see a roughly 3-5 second animation of a quick takedown kill and then we respawn.
If I recall correctly, the assassinations of Halo 5 never took longer than 4 seconds unless you were in those slo-mo assassination custom games.

So if the respawn is going to take 5 seconds, why not just have a back-smack be an assassination animation that players can select in their armory customization menu?
You are going to be sitting still for 5 seconds anyway so why not watch something entertaining other than your ragdoll just dropping to the ground?

Some can be serious takedowns while others can be a bit more comedic like the following.
