Assassination!

Since we know that the assassinations will vary in length I just wanted to throw out some ideas of what we may see. Since all the assassinations in the Warzone gameplay videos we’ve seen are relatively the same length this basically guarantees a multitude of new assassinations. And I believe we will see some assassinations that will blow our minds. Since they are warning us ahead of time that these assassinations may last longer, they are able to make very long assassinations without taking much heat from the community. This opens so many doors for them when creating these animations and it really is getting me super hyped to test all of them out. The following are just some examples I’ve thought of that could definitely make it into the game:

  • Miniature fight scenes: Imagine turning the enemy spartan around and landing a couple hits and then starts to block the incoming strikes. Ultimately you will win the fight (obviously) but it would be cool to witness the spartans uses hand to hand combat skills described in the book. - Elongated Assassinations: Don’t you want to punish your enemy for not checking his radar? Imagine a 5-7 second assassination that puts the other player in his place. I realize this is a long time, but like I said before its completely optional and not to mention would be amazing for machinima. - Brutal Assassinations: We can already tell by the audio added to the assassinations (emphasis on bones cracking) that 343i is willing to make these assassinations gruesome. However its hard to do that when making 3 second animations. Since they aren’t restricted on time they can put all the detail they need to clothesline a spartan and proceed to curb stomp him. - Quick and Clean: They can also take this the other direction and add a simple ‘knife to the side of the head and keep on truckin’ assassination for those who are more competitive and don’t want to stay vulnerable for too long.If you can’t tell, I love assassinations. I was surprised when I noticed there weren’t many topics on this so I figured I’d add to the discussion.

Variable length would be really cool; Like, the longer you hold it, the longer it goes, up to a cap of course. Could easily work for headlock into neck-snap, stabbing, or even curbstomps and headslams.

That would be cool. The assassination would move to a next step for every second you held it or something. We won’t see that in Halo 5 though.

I’ve always wanted bungie/343i to add as many animations as they could. I think my dreams are going to come true Oct 27th so I’m pretty stoked too!

They will! You can get new assassination animations in the REQ packs.

Im ready for a bunch of new cool assassinations but I kinda doubt they will be gruesome with bones cracking and stuff
The whole hand to hand combat assassination thing sounds cool

I would like to see assassinations that involve your weapon
Like you would beat them to death with the butt of your BR or something :slight_smile:

I know!! It’s cool that you can select the one you want. Hopefully we can pick three and it will cycle through those. I wonder what the default assassination will be.

There is a youtube video that features the bone cracking sound. It’s the assassination where he puts the guy over his knee and snaps his neck. I’d post a link if I knew where it was :frowning:

And yes! I was going to mention this but totally forgot. What if he actually used a sidearm pistol that’s kind of always there but isn’t usable anyway else.

He kicks him in the back of the leg and gets him to his knees, popping his shield at the same time, and puts one shot to the back of his dome :smiley:

They said somewhere (apologies for no link, I think it’s somewhere on Teambeyond, where Josh did that interview) that the animation you select ups probability of using it, it doesn’t remove the others. I think they said something along the lines of ‘based on the criteria (sprinting, in air, target standing, target sprinting) You are more likely to get that animation than others. So if the game can give you that animation, it will’

I don’t know what that would mean for if you have multiple unlocked though… do they all enter the cycle, with one having priority? Or do you keep the default stable of options and you can cycle just the one slot?

That does make sense. They should let you pick an assassination for every type; like you said, sprinting, jumping, etc. if that is the case

I would imagine that out of all the assassination you unlock, you choose one to be used more often than the others.

I seen alot of Halo 4 animations throughout the beta. I’m eager to see what new animations there are.

The one I was referencing, in his own words:

"As I understand it, choosing a custom assassination (this isn’t necessary BTW, you can simply use the default library of assassinations to draw from), biases the game systems to trigger that assassination whenever possible/appropriate. That doesn’t mean it will always play as each assassination animation has specific contextual requirements so that it doesn’t look borked. So essentially you’re saying, “if possible I would like to stab people in the face like THIS.”

Thank you for the quote since I am at work and can’t view that link lol. That’s reassuring, and makes a lot of sense. How are you going to clothesline a dude sprinting the other direction? Very cool stuff

They could go the Gears of War way.
When a player was DBNO (Down but not out) you could do a weapon finisher of whip out your Pistol which would turn the animation in rolling the down player over and bashing his face in for as long as you kept pressing Y (it did stop automaticly after a few seconds for obvious reasons).
I could see this be used in Halo 5 as well. You sneak up behind an enemy, press melee and you’ll start the animation. Keep pressing melee in order to keep it going or do nothing to make it quicker.

Don’t think it’ll happen though.

Yes, exactly like that :smiley:

What about risky assassinations that look cool and last a long time but there’s a 5% (or whatever) chance that the enemy can counter and kill you instead.
