Assassination

I have this glitch that keeps happening to me that is extremely annoying, i thought it was a one time occurrence but it has happened several times and always kills me. So you know how to do an assassination, you have to hold the melee while behind an opponent vs a backsmack is press it once. It appears that if you hold the melee button for a millisecond shorter then the assassination requires, then the animation starts and then stops, the enemy goes free without taking any damage. It looks like I will grab their shoulders and push them away.

Yep, that’s happened to me too although I didn’t know that was the cause of it. When I asked the question on Waypoint, they said it was either bad internet connection or I was too close to a wall. I think that your explanation makes more sense.

I personally don’t care for assassinations. My animation for assassination is turned off for a quick kill. Many of them are really cool though.

So I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone up behind someone who’s afk or whatever trying to do an assassination, only to get the back slap instead… had noidea about the button hold… #facepalm

My experience and understanding has long been that it does in fact occur due to the required space for the animation to play out not being available. So yes, being too close to a wall or barrier can and will cause the assassination animation to get canceled. For example. It’s just something you’ve got to be aware of when desiring to assassinate someone. And I do wonder if particular assassination animations are more susceptible than others to being canceled due to their space requirement perhaps being different because I’ve never investigated it or know of anyone who may have.

@theArchi73ct

Do you have any recorded footage of your assassination attempts being canceled? I’d be curious to see if there was any barrier interference with the particular animation you were attempting that got canceled.

EDIT: Side note, I wish Halo 5 had built in some intelligence with regards to these assassinations that are susceptible to being canceled due to barrier interference by converting the attempt into a simple back-smack melee for the kill.

I don’t think so, but I thought that the being to close to a wall was when it changed to one of the default animations instead of whatever you had equipped. Like if it does that one where you just stab them with a knife instead of, say, spinal tap or whatever. I’ll check my clips tho
Edit: I do not, but I will test it out later today with a friend

Yeah when I first started playing Halo 5 I had no idea how to assassinate someone but then I searched it up. You need to hold the melee button for a longer amount of time.

Yea… I figured it out waaaaay too late. I’ve at least been able to finish my personal assassination comm… but it’s still frustrating when I’m in a match and happen upon an afk player and try to assassinate them (to help my company) and just end up meleeing them instead…

y are most assassinations so burtal, their should way to add ur own animation or select the animation u want

My assassination is turned off. Too many times either a teammate steals the kill (not always intentionally) or I get shot at during the animation. I figured the quick kill is the better way to go.

I think you mean brutal? Also you can change which assassination you want, there are several that I would almost count as non violent (supernova).

I’ve done mine in open space to a guy who was cheating so I wanted to give him the business in the form of a sneaky assassination, there was no interference but he still escaped the assassination and thrusted away, I suppose I should have figured though. oops

The same thing always happened to me too because of the bad connection I had, then I changed my internet and everything was fixed
