Assassination: On/off

(I’m talking about Halo 4 by the way)

So let’s say you’re playing Halo 4 and running to hit someone in the back. However you hold RB (or whatever your melee button is) just a split second to long and accidentally go into assassination mode. THEN, another opponent comes up and start shooting you, and what can you do about it? Nothin’.

Happened to you before? It’s definitely happened to me. I feel like we should get the choice to have the ability to go into assassination mode or not. Just add it into game controls, next to toggle crouch or something.

I loved Halo 3 in not having to get killed because you had to wait 3 or so seconds because you accidentally pressed a button for too long. And while I see that assassination is fun for some people and some scenarios, I know that others prefer not to have it, which is why I think we should have a choice.

Agree? Disagree? State your reasons for whichever answer.

Thank you! God Bless you

I’ve always been against adding assassinations into Halo in the first place, but now that its here to stay, adding a toggle for it doesn’t seem right. You already have the option not to use it by just tapping melee instead of holding it in, and that feels like enough. I’ve never accidentally used it and this is the first time I’ve heard someone complain about it.

Toggle would be nice although it doesn’t make much sense.

Assassinations are awesome, but now that I’ve mastered them and they count for nothing but 5 extra points… I wish I would just beat down instead but I seem incapable of it >.<

There are 2 melees, if you click you punch with your left hand, if you hold it longer you hit with your weapon, only if you hold longer you go into assasination, and wetwork makes your assassination go faster.

I love assassinations, but I can understand the practical value of not performing them in front of the enemy.

However, I’ve never had this “holding too long” problem. Does your controller’s button stick?

Someone suggested when you assassinate you should automatically steal their shield energy and get an overshield. I like this idea better then Ordinance overshield and gives a good reason to do one.

This happened to me all the time in reach, but not as much in Halo 4. Still, an option to COMPLETELY remove my ability to perform them would be greatly appreciated.

It really hasn’t happened to you guys? Wow, no they don’t stick but it. Even though I may experience the problem more than others, I still think enough people would like to have it like it was in Halo 3, then everyone would be happy!

God Bless you

I hate accidentally assassinating people. I try my best to avoid doing it, but sometimes the animation still happens even so i always only tap the button. between reach and h4 i have 30 accidental assassinations and i would say 25 of them were the direct cause of my next death.

would be great if i could toggle it off

I don’t mine it, I just like to show off with the cool animation, if I die or not

See, even if you don’t mind accidentally assassinating or assassinating altogether, then you can just keep it on. But for us who want to keep our streak or whatever going, it’d be nice to be able to turn it off. And when friends come over or we just want to have fun, the n turning it back on would be extremely nice.

God Bless you

It doesn’t seem to be an issue really playing with Recon controls.

But I do agree dying as a result of an accidental assassination isn’t fun. An option to cancel an assassination might be nice. Maybe if you press x during an assassination you could let go or press B for an instant kill or something like that.

There is only one melee, it just has two different animations. The two animations occur randomly, and it has been that was since Halo 3, I believe.

Sometimes the game can be extremely sensitive to “holding” the button to assassinate. Imagine hopping into vehicles by accident because you tried to reload.
