I typically run with a party of 2 or 3 of my teammates when I play Reach. Personally, I feel it’s the only way to play any team based mode. But, when no one is on or I can’t get everyone together, I sometimes like to play Rumble Pit, really kind of push my self a bit. But it feels like, more often than not, I’m playing parties who work as a team in the playlist. It’s frustrating knowing that I can’t gauge how well my one on one gun skill is because everytime I run into one person, he has a friend there to help him. Example:
Today on sword base I ran into three guys who controlled the area at the top of red lift, with one guy down stairs with the shotty, the other guy at the top of that open ramp with grenade launcher, and the third guy with the sniper on the balcony. And they never once fired at one another.
Another example: Last night I played uncaged against a two parties of 3. Both parties would spawn and do their best to run together as a group, so I basically stuck in the crossfire of a 3v3.
I get that someone somewhere might party with their friends and play FFA the way it’s supposed to be played, but I feel like more often than not, I get to play 1v2’s and 1v4’s every time I drop into rumble pit. And that’s not fun. Or fair.
I’m pretty sure 343 can’t or don’t care enough to address this and fix it in Reach, but I’d really like to see a ranked Lone Wolves style playlist where you enter and are on your own every single time you play the game.
Anyone else feel this way? Or am I just a really unlucky SoB?
It would be pretty easy for the system to track people who frequently play Rumble Pit together and ban them from the playlist if they don’t get kills on each other. But have you realized these people never actually win? They’re too busy sharing the few kill opportunities left to them that someone better inevitably who’s playing the right way gets a higher kill count.
I don’t think its against the rules or anything, may just be “not in the spirit of the game”. Is rather unfortunate though for you if you’re matching guys who refuse to shoot at each other an just help each other. Those sort of actions wouldn’t be allowed at tournaments. But simply getting “team shot” by them isn’t against any rules, you’re playing a FFA you are bound to get shot by more than one person.
I would call you unlucky, or maybe just sensitive… My parties sometimes venture into Rumble Pit, but that’s to beat up on each other, not to work together.
Of course that doesn’t matter at the end of the match though, if one of us does win, then others in that game falsely accuse us of working together.
Having experienced that accusation… I’m going to say it’s more likely that you just perceive they are working as a team, not that they’re actually working as a team.
I’ve had a few of my friends do this before. While i just search Rumble Pit alone, they do for trolling purposes; to piss people off.
However, i do run into the occasional party of two (one main and his guest) and they proceed to feed off the guest for that easy 25. It’s doesn’t happen often but when it does i just think “wow really?”. It’s not fun going second or third when that kind of -Yoink- happens.
I’ve run into people who simply kill their guest account for an easy win. It sucks, but at least it counts as AFK’ing against their account (provided the guest doesn’t get any kills).
I don’t think disallowing parties in Rumble Pit would be good, though (essentially turning it into Lone Wolves). Sometimes, my party and I will randomly hop into Rumble Pit for some good fun. And, honestly, there’s more competition between our party members than there is between us and the people we were matched with.
