People seem to be annoyed by the fact that the 343 artists are spending time on REQ and game type designs instead of programming the game types themselves. Unfortunately most artists cant program thus they cant make the game modes we want, they can design them but not make them.
What the artist does
Designs the weapon - Designs the map the mode will be built on - Designs the weapon skinsThe programmer is responsible for
Programming the weapon - Programming the map to work with all weapons and game modes - programming the weapon skins inAs you can see the 343 artist and the 343 programmer have completely different jobs. At this point all the game modes have been designed so all the artist can do is design new REQs, the programmers along with 343 management are the ones who prioritise what content is added in first not the artists.
I want new game modes to but blaming the artists doesn’t do anything, I hope this clarifies things
Nobody is blaming the artists, people are blaming 343 as a whole.
The game came out in October and we cannot even play, games like assault which we always had since day one.
I hope people already know this, but there’s a limited amount of money that -Yoink!- and 343 are willing to spend on H5’s post launch product.
That being said, they need to stop paying people to give us skins and use that money to make good content that people want, like gametypes, maps, social playlist, blah blah blah, (you know the shpeel).
Limited cash, limited content. Give rhe community what they need to thrive and survive, not just what’s cheapest and easiest to do.

I agree we should have had the game modes months ago but I keep seeing people say the artists should prioritise on game modes when its not possible for them to do so.

The artists are full time employees I believe so they might as well be designing REQs if they have nothing else to do, you cant just get rid of them. But I do agree that we should not be getting stupid stuff like pizza skins

The unfortunate truth, if it wasn’t for the Forge community Halo 5 would have died ages ago.
If 343 announced an official deadline for assault, oddball, juggernaut, etc. People would have something to look forward to. even if they said that it all comes in april.
The problem is we don’t officially have a deadline for these things so all people can do is complain and complain. And i don’t blame them, they see. new content coming out so they look for someone else to blame for the lack of gametypes, this time it was the pizza ar, tommorow it’ll be something else.
What 343 should do is literally give us a deadline for all these things no matter when its planned for so at least we know.

Agreed they should give us a list of what they want to put in the game, that way the community wont get its hope up every month just to be disappointed.
I’ve seen this counterargument come up out of nowhere the past few days and it’s pretty funny to see how everyone started touting it. Look, no one cares about the artists. That’s not what this is about. It’s the fact that 343 as a company is releasing updates which mainly consist of more microtransactions and a remix map instead of things that could actually improve the game. If this is what they can give us after 3 months then 343 needs to sort itself out. This counterargument is not good enough at this point.

You must be aware that it doesn’t work like that.
It’d be awesome if it did, but no game company makes an announcement on a feature or addition until it’s locked down. We weren’t even supposed to know about that prefab feature for Forge until probably a few months down the line, the only reason we know of it now is because there was something in the game that gave it away, and they were caught (proverbially) with their pants down. Similarly, we won’t know about a time frame until they can feel out when it might be ready to ship. The last update indicated that they had quite a few new gametypes in their playtesting environment, so that is at least something.
I mean, the primary reason developers don’t promise things until they can insure delivery is so that people won’t make expectations of it based on their wording and end up disappointing. Like how GTA V was supposed to have Heists at (or near) GTO’s launch but didn’t make the cut until way afterwards.

This so much. 343 is the type of company that likes to keep their projects under wraps, and release it as a surprise at the last second. I somewhat understand the thinking behind this. It’s like sneaking a peak at your present before Christmas, it ruins the surprise and make them feel less special when you open them up later. BUT, I really do think they should be a little more open about their future plans and visions for the future of Halo. 343 like their secret squirrel projects a little too much. When the community asks so vigorously for something and all you get in return is silence, it makes them feel unheard.

Its not a counter argument. 343 have screwed up and they do need to reprioritise I completely agree with that, but lots of people are under the assumption that the artist are responsible for the games lack of content game mode wise. I’m just trying to say that its 343 management not the artists that are the problem.

Actually, quite a few companies are very open about future goals, visions, and deadlines. Granted most of them are MMO’s, but these are the types of games that release one game and keep it alive for years through updates. They’re experts at post release content and advertising future updates. And it’s not like the updates show up at the last second as a surprise. They know for a fact that they are going to release some of these features for a long time. And if they aren’t able to release what they said they were working on at the specified deadline, communities are a lot more forgiving of them as long as they give a reason for why they didn’t finish on time than some people might think. Staying silent instead of giving excuses, despite being somewhat noble, isn’t always the best choice

If we didn’t have the artists. We wouldn’t have the game. No assets, no game.
Chew on that for a second.
But either way, it’s pretty funny how you guys try to justify it being irrelevant/untrue when it is, in fact, a truth. It also doesn’t help that they had a company-wide relocation during the latter half of december, thus, probably adding to how this update turned out in terms of content. But god forbid there being an actual reason for it.
I also find it humorous that you believe the entire company should be held accountable. Why not the person who decided that gametype’s weren’t a priority? Why not the entire department who specializes in this kind of thing? Oh, right. It’s easier to generalize. And it’s much easier to overlook an entire company move that included them not having access to their development tools, thus, probably making this update a little barebones.
But hey, I get it. It’s easier to generalize. At least then you won’t look like you didn’t do all your research.
Also, inb4 “but these gametypes should’ve been here!” when that’s not the point.
