The art style for Halo: Infinite is good. I really appreciate the more recognizable art style from the original Halo trilogy, and I feel it’s a welcome return. Chief’s armor, BR, Mangler, Marines, Elites, Grunts, Brutes (Mostly, though Craig doesn’t look as good as the H2A/HW2 brutes) are all just a few examples. Art style is what will be remembered long after a game is gone. IE The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did not have the best graphics when it released, but the game was beautiful and will be remembered for its iconic art style. I just wanted to give some credit where it was due.
I like it. I think it’s an improvement over H4&5. It’s reminiscent of REACH, my personal favorite Halo.
I would like to see higher detail though. Based on the demo, the textures look a little lifeless.
I like the art style as well.
Yeah it’s “good”, sure. Good. Period.
My problem was how safe it was. Even average fanservice in my opinion.
Like, when I saw halo 2 anniversary or half of halo 4 I never thought “oh nice, it’s good”, or even great, it was downright glorious. My jaw dropped. I won’t touch the graphics because I know the demo isn’t the final game, but the art style in infinite just doesn’t impress me at all. I saw it as the obvious instinctive move after halo 5’s rejection.
It only delievers the minimum, but what they did with the shotgun and magnum… and I thought they were ugly in H5.
After eight years of criticizing the decisions made in Halo 4 and 5, I can’t not be happy about some of those getting addressed. Unlike Halo 5, I don’t passionately dislike any of the artistic decisions, but I can’t say I like it. It’s serviceable, but it’s a bit of dull and doesn’t have a sense of strong creative direction.
Frankly I disagree. What I saw n that demo was pure stylistic incoherency if something. Do I like it more than H4/5? Actually I do, but only because 343i decided to use a style that I personally always despised to begin with in their prior titles. Reason why the less it looks like those games the better for me! H4 and 5 were however done with absolute professionality, I got to admit that! I didn’t liked the direction, but it was a direction taken by absolute art and design monsters! Therefore I can’t believe the same people worked on Hi!
Galo Infinite has my preferred style, but it’s done poorly. Period. It is as if they took a box, filled it with Halo 3 art direction, mixed it in with five additional art directions and than throw it onto the screen just to see what stuck. Which can work frankly, as a basic approach that is. You have to build upon it though also to unify the different directions! The AR in Reach was made with a specific atmosphere in mind, it’s more rectangular, technical and rough to represent what Reach was about. What do those harsh geometries have to do with the hope themes from Hi? H3’s Grunt armor also looks weird when a H4 Unggoy is wearing it. And a Grunt from H5 does look fine with its original armor (well, kinda. Again, I hate them personally, but they are well done on their own objectively speaking), but a H5 Grunt looks out of place in a beautiful green natural environment. Same with the classic Elites, their smooth shapes with strongly unified coloring do look good on their own and they do seem to fit the environment, but suddenly that’s not true anymore when frames together with HW2 elements and characters. A lot of the new elements on the Banished armor looks weird too to me… Those lego pieces for instance! What were they thinking? The community likes strong colors over H5, so get those toys like armor pieces? It feels like it for sure!
And so far I’m only talking about props and characters here! The environments are weird as well. I understand the ring is meant to be in array, broken and in a status of repair, so the hexagon structures are there to represent it and we most probably won’t even see them most of the time. Those are just the basic geometries that will build Zeta Halo’s geography, I get it! However, we have seen how those hexagon structures are supposed to look like during H3 already, so that’s a huge retcon. And for what? To mimic a Minecraft style world?
What about human weapons? Is that pistol something from the Halo franchise? That automatic DMR and especially the shotgun reminds me a lot of Deus Ex Mankind Divided, a game I loved, but does it scream Halo to you?
Sorry, but on an artistical level it’s a mess. It feels like six artists reinterpreting Halo’s art on the same ring shaped canvas! Dunno if it makes sense, but that was the biggest disappointment for me, even more so than only the graphics.
If it felt more like Halo imho it’s because they stole so many elements from past games that managed to capture that feeling to begin, but they took those elements without understanding how to make them their own nor the context in which they were used in. The music helped a lot as well, maybe even more so than the art direction. I just wished that plasma shots would resemble more H2A SP or HW2 and that the AR would sound more powerful, but it’s a small complained on the SFX side of things overall.

I agree, I loved Halo 2 Anniversary’s and Halo Wars 2’s art style and I did not like H4 and H5’s art style (okay at best). How do you think Halo: Infinite’s could be better?
I like the direction they went in
I think the brutes and phantoms could use some work but other wise the designs of chief, the grunts, and the elites look good. Even then I don’t mind the designs of the brutes and the phantoms, but I like 2A’s and 3’s more respectively.
What art-style?.. Just kidding.
I don’t think it looks “classic”. But more so than the 4-5 Artstyle, and in some aspects more so than Reach. I like it more than all of those 3 (some things I prefer with Reach though like the grittyness) but it is this very lacking. There is a slight truth in the “what artstyle?” joke. I hope this is one of the things they will work a lot on before release.
Yeah, i love the art style of halo infinite, i would like to see more concept art.
