We asked for darker grittier looking maps and art style and that’s what we’re getting!
Only map they’ve shown off is Prospect, and it’s darker but probably only because it takes place on Meridian.
Picture?
Remember the concept art for Darkstar?
Dont get your hopes up. Things can still change before release.
Since when were Halo maps ever “dark and gritty” to begin with?

Did you not play reach?

reach maps were gritty? didn’t one of the maps take place in basically a hotel of some sort?
reach maps were not as “gritty” as you think. and they were only “dark” because the lighting sucked.

The dirt road under the Spire looked like cinnamon toast crunch. Reach wasn’t that gritty.

The hotel was a halo 2 map remake though… in fact a lot of the reach maps were just remakes of halo 2 maps with forge.
Remember, Reach had a much lower resolution, an extremely muted color pallet, and stupid motion blur, so of course it was “dark & gritty” … or as I would call it “monochromatic and fuzzy”. lol
I mean, seriously, “gritty”; it’s the word of the year, throw a thesaurus at it or clean your armor. We’re not Spartan 3’s on a sandy doomed planet being glassed. We’re Spartan 4’s on the Infinity. I can hear Sgt. Johnson now: “Why you wearin’ dirty armor, marine? This ain’t New Alexandria! Have you no shame? No pride? You look a mess. Shine that Mjolnir, soldier, it ain’t cheap!”
I can’t recall a single map on reach that was dark and gritty. I can’t think of many in the entire franchise that you could even remotely consider that.

people think because a maps lighting is dark. that makes it dark and gritty.
when the truth of the matter is, dark and gritty is about the content on the map, yes dim lighting helps, but that isn’t all that makes it gritty.
you wouldn’t call a map on the beach dark and gritty just because it has dim lighting would you?
you would call it dark and gritty, because it has dead grunts as props, blown apart buildings, etc etc.

Countdown comes to mind.
None of the Halo Games were really all that gritty, Halo reach had a darker tone but nothing necessarily gritty, plus, I am so sick of video games taking that “Dark tone” it is incredibly overused. I do however like the dirty look and physically gritty look of skirmish at darkstar.

Eck… your right…
I just want more realistic lighting, and night time maps as well.

Some of the maps had a sense of grit to them, but that was largely due to the art style. The Halo games that are considered the best—2 and 3—were anything but.

You sir with that Sgt impression nailed it. RIP
I guess if you mixed halo with doom then you’d get true gritty maps along with a M rating
