After rewatching the Halo Wars 2 E3 Trailer for the hundredth time, I noticed a lot of the comments wanted 343 to bring back that “classic” Halo art style for Halo 6. While this is a sentiment I agree with, reverting back immediately is incredibly unrealistic, considering the technological advancements made by the UNSC since the war. So that means any kind of massive change, like switching back to the classic BR or pelican is basically out of the question, both in-universe and to the community, a fair portion of which actually enjoys the new art style. What 343 CAN do is start small and subtle, like giving the BR a scope again or bulking out the spartan armors in thickness as well as expanding overall plate coverage. Other examples would include tweaking the pelican to better resemble the old pelican, while still indicating technological advancement, like the pelican from H2A, which looked gorgeous. They could also remove the jerry cans from the warthog, start showing classic elites instead of the storms, tiny things like that. If they keep doing this over the course of multiple games, we can hit a middle that will please both sides of the debate.
And that’s the one thing people either dont understand or are willingly ignorant towards. That the changes aesthetically are canon.
Spartans now use GEN2 armor, the UNSC changed their logo to a new bold post-war logo. Many of the aliens are either degenerates left over or cousin species to the former covies (specifically the reason why jackels are now reptiles instead of birds. They’re just a sub-specie and they co-exist in the same universe. Halo escalations proves that.)
I mean, this doesnt directly mean we cant see armor or enemies closer to their bungie era designs. But at this point it’s pretty clear that 343i wants to focus on their vision of halo’s design. Which altogether certainly isnt bad. But it’s not like they’re going to retcon the universe and it’s lore post-Halo 3 by returning to classic designs

I do agree that at least some sort of middle ground can be reached (and this is coming from a guy who actually prefers 343’s art style for the most part).
As mentioned above, if 343 were to actually show in game the different sub-species, significant progress would already be made.
Also, as OP mentioned, bringing back the size and thickness of the Bungie era armor would also make a huge improvement. True, some fans like the sleeker, simpler look of some of the newer suits. But as seen with the arrival of Memories of Reach, many (if not the majority) mambers of the community want to see a comeback of the classic designs.
If Halo wars 2 and the additions made to Halo 5 (like Noble Team’s armor, return of the SPNKR, and the Classic covenant sniper rifles are any indicator, I think 343 is heading at least somewhat in this direction.

So what canon reason is there for the UNSC to not change the style again, when they already did so in the past? Or what reason is there for not having some colonial militia using old leftover equipment that was discared by the UNSC? And especially for the Covenant, what rule says that the other sub-species are forbidden from appearing again? Did they all die out over the last five years?
Those “canon” reasons are bogus. At the very least they could include both designs in the game. Even IRL, it takes ages for equipment to be fully replaced, and that’s not taking into account that the UNSC has to spread it over hundreds of starsystems across thousands of light years. And even so, the old stuff always ends up somewhere in the hands of local militia organizations. (I.e. WW2 weapons are still in use somewhere in the middle-east and/or in Africa.)

There’s nothing wrong with just doing it straight away…they forced it on us all straight away when it came to H4 and then continued with it in H5. Things like the Grunts needs to be back to their classic design, improved upon instead of completely changed to be barely recognisable. Even Halo Wars 2 is sticking to the classic design, I’d rather they revert back to the classic changes instead of wasting 3+ years on development on a game then decide there barely going to change much. If 343i need to get fans back then they start big because Bungie started as a smaller studio and excelled at what they did so if 343i can’t do this then there maybe not suited at the job for handling Halo. I know this sounds harsh but there a AAA studio that are hired to make a Halo game…and not a completely new IP.
H4 to me was just a rushed project the day before the project is due in science class. And Halo 5 is a a project that luckily got a 70.
But I’m hoping they go for a more armor system style for Halo Reach.
They actually keep fun gamemodes like Mythic Shotty snipers.
make it better for those outside our countries. Like the UK and Brazil.
Make it more strict about mis-conduct of rules. (Also maybe they should add farming as a rule. No farming. Because you may have some fun, but it isn’t fun for those who are getting pounded by horrid challenging people.)
And also maybe add a sort of RUGBY gamemode. No armor, no hammers, swords. Just you, the ball, and 5 more players beside you to help you.
