Around two years ago, I came up with the idea of remaking Starfighter Assault from the 2005 Battlefront II in Halo 5’s Forge. I didn’t really have a clear objective other than that, and the map that came out of my effort was less than half-baked.
A week ago, I remastered that map, and released it for play!
Here’s the map broken down, so you can get a better idea of what it’s like before you play.
The Basics
Two teams of six, one team in Banshees, the other in Wasps, fight in the skies above a snowy tundra. You have one life per each of the 10 rounds, so think wisely before getting yourself surrounded. There are two ‘weak points’ of the enemy’s Capital Ships. The UNSC’s weak point is a generator that can be easily accessed via going under the ship and seeing the large opening to the interior, and you have to press a button on the generator to overload it. The Covenant’s weak point is one of their engines, which can be destroyed with standard fire.
A Fresh Coat of Paint
The map is a modified version of AHSeanR’s Spirit of Fire map, with the interior of that ship gutted, and no way to access the Observation Deck or Armory. I shut that part of the map off so that the people on the UNSC side don’t just take shotguns from the Armory and camp next to the door, waiting for their enemy to walk through and get blasted. The Covenant ship barely had an interior to begin with, so no gutting there. AHSeanR’s original map had a midday setting, while this map is set in sunset (or sunrise, whichever you prefer). I also added intro and outro cinematics to the map, so that’s a plus.
Play Well
The gamemode associated with the map doesn’t exactly do any wonders, but it serves as the other half of the gameplay. Because of the way that it’s designed, the gamemode does not spawn you in a vehicle, but rather you have to get in one once you spawn. The Covenant have Plasma Pistols at spawn, so they can discharge the enemy’s Wasps if they wanted to.
That’s about it! I’ll start a few games nights in the coming future to find anything wrong with the map, and fix it accordingly. I will stop updating the map after Legacy Version 3.0, which will add even more things to spice up the gameplay to send out one of the oldest maps I have. The name of the map is simply ‘Arrow of Fire’, and the gamemode is named ‘Arrow of Fire (Gamemode)’
Play well!
