But a huge gripe I have with the game is how…bad the armour looks. Sure, it’s all subjective and all that, but I feel this puts the huge gap in quality into perspective.
How can a game that came out in 2010 have better looking armour than one that came out in 2015, on a next generation console.
It just…confuses me. There’s plenty of armour still coming, so can’t we get armour that actually looks like armour, and not whatever the hell these are.
Idk, i blame the cannon. And i would have to point out that reach was bungies last halo game, so they went all out, and also reach is a diferent style and beast alltogether. Halo 5 is more compareable to 2 or 3 in development terms, its not the peak oh what 343 can do and thats just how they want to display themselves.

I like most of them (like Legionnaire), but i hate the ones that don’t have a visor (apart from Grungir, Recluse and Fenrir) and the ones that look too Forerunner-ish, almost non-human (like Pioneer, Hellcat, Vector and Seeker).
The rest of the armor is pretty good, some of them are just meh, but a solid 70% is good to me (and is still a huge improvement to Halo 4 armors)

Hellcat is the ancient human armor pretty much, the ones you get a glimpse at in the librarian cutscene in halo 5
i didnt buy this game to care about amour. you shouldnt either. idc if reach had it better. most of my time is spent in first person mode actaully playing the game. i got the legend achievement before 5 came out and left the helioskirill amour ever since. then i got freds full set and now rock that and im completly content. theres many other sets i like and woud wear them but i dont give a damn i just wanna play
I think the main reason people don’t like the armor and think it looks like power rangers is because the undersuits are colored. If they make the undersuits black, I think people would like the armor a lot more. As for variety, I’m fine with all of the armor. It suits different peoples tastes.

I agree.
undersuits, we need a black option or just let us choose.

Can’t agree more. I really dislike this smoothed over glossy look that 343i has given us. I loved the reach armor design - far more realistic, battle-tested gear. I want halo armor to return to this more gritty, bulky military exosuit armor rather than this new futuristic “iPod” look.
I understand that the UNSC’s made huge strides in armor design but some of the stuff that you can get just looks…flimsy.
You know if Im going into battle with millenia old robots and genocidal aliens, I want some SERIOUS plate on me you know?
I agree completely. Most of these designs are anywhere from mediocre to terrible. Bungie’s designs were simple and practical; they made sense. You took a look at a Spartan and he looked like a walking tank, no matter what. Why? Because the armour was designed with purpose. There weren’t any silly racecar-like skins, they were truly machines of war.
But 343i’s designs? They’re waaaaayyy too overdesigned and make no sense. I mean, even just look at the new Marauder armour. At the chin area of the helmet and at the forehead, there are random bars that just go across the helmet. And then you have Jumpmaster and Nomad, which have giant…err…phallic-like extrusions sticking out of the top. And then there’s Seeker. Just… Why? What purpose could those serve at all? It seems like 343i is trying to make their Spartans look all flashy and out there, the complete opposite of what a Spartan was with Bungie. I take a look at 95% of their armours and I think crazy modern art piece rather than walking tank. And that’s a problem.
Not to mention that none of 343i’s sets really match each other. In Halo 3 and Reach, you could mix and match any piece and it looked good. But don’t even try to use the Helioskrill armour with the Mark IV helmet, or Venator body with Helljumper helmet, otherwise it just won’t look right.
Although I seriously doubt it, I hope that 343i seriously considers revising their armour design philosophy.

Oh yes, I completely forgot that your opinions are the only ones that matter, and anybody with a different one. How dare we not enjoy the new artistic direction that 343i is taking the franchise, especially since the art direction is something that we loved so much about the series beforehand? Since you don’t care, it means that nobody should. Please forgive me, oh great master of all.
I wish everything about the armor was different, especially the concept art. Some of those designs don’t look right for human anatomy, or just look stupid. The Noble helmet is by far the best one in game IMO because they didn’t go turning it into a visor-less beer-holder hat thingamajig like half of their other acid-trip designs.
A lot of armor in this game is a waste of space to be frank… a lot of it doesn’t even look “Halo.”
With Halo 6… trim the fat, pick the best 25 armor sets or so… NO DUPLICATES… get the colors and customization right, dedicate all of the lost time that was spent making excessive armor with Halo 5, and with the next game, spend it designing new, UNIQUE multiplayer maps and get the map-count right, at launch. Then work on MORE maps and meaningful content for post-launch DLC/updates. If the designers and modelers can create complex looking character models/armor sets, chances are that they can design environments with ease. Get the team focused on creating content that adds VALUE to the game!
This likely will not happen, due to the success of the REQ system, but it would benefit the game, itself, more as a whole…

I agree completely. The Noble helmet is the best in the game, simply because it’s a copy-paste from Reach, and looks exactly as it should.
I would love to see CQB armour return in Halo 5, but at the same time, I’m frightened of how 343i would mess it up.
So many amours look completely hideous, and impractical. What ever happened with shoulder armor and abdomen armor? Hell, many of the chest plates don’t even fully cover the sternum.
I think its odd they showed off the new decimator set in the old blue team colors. Because now the blue is lighter and the secondary is the dark blue.
Imo I haven’t liked any of the DLC armor except the mk IV. A lot of the sets seem like they were produced in a rushed fashion by someone a bit inexperienced. You can tell thought went into copperhead, centurion, and the campaign armors but the DLC armors look half -Yoinked!- to the extreme. They botched the mk V and now the mk V (B).
this has been my gripe from day 1, the armor worn my fireteam osiris and blue team actually looks realistic, even if some of the designs are meh for me, but yea, bottom line, realistic
however, every single multiplayer armor looks like a toy. i like your reach comparison, there the gear looked rugged and something like high end gear used by the best soldiers of humanity to give them the extra edge.

What is “SERIOUS plate” going to do against plasma if your shields can’t stand against it? (And this is probably state of the art hardware, mind you)
I’m pretty sure if you were in a battle against millenia old robots and genocidal aliens, you’d be worried more about mobility than how much padding you have. Because that stuff can weigh you down after a while.
As for the OP, I prefer the style in Halo 4 and 5 over the one presented in Reach. A decent amount of the armor customization options in Reach were just hilariously impractical. Especially if you think about how some of those would have affected sightlines from within the visor (helmets nonwithstanding, I had no problem with that). That one variant of Jorge’s armor with that extra part on the neck particularly springs to mind.
Now, with all of that said, I did admire the gritty, battle-worn style of the armor itself. Considering where Halo 6 might go, this might not be a bad thing to explore again. But there is something to be said for the glossy look that’s more reminiscent of Halo 3.
Honestly, the armor style in Halo 5 doesn’t even look that bad in the game itself, the menu just does a crappy job of making it look decent.

Yeah but Bungie knew what they were doing in 2 and 3 and didn’t leave a player with thoughts of “this game never should have went passed 3” and if this is just the start of what to expect for 6 I’m pretty sure I’m going to write off the franchise if they pull another one of these. I was extremely open minded after I played 4 and 2 ann. but this makes me have doubts for the franchise in post Bungie…my biggest fear for Halo is that its going to turn in to CoD and not in the way of no change in gameplay but more in the aspect of they jus use the name as hey you know what it is and what your going to get which after thinking about it it may have already have happened.
