We don’t care if you are not fussed about customisation. Myself, the others in this thread, and the overwhelming majority of players enjoy customisation and have done since H3.
To a degree it does affect gameplay, the same way equipment/superstitions of athletes affect theirs (as daft as that sounds). I personally don’t feel I play as well if my spartan doesn’t look the way I want, I’m sure many people are the same. If it doesn’t affect you, great, don’t try to act superior because you don’t care about a fundamental part of the Halo experience.
i like the idea of having different setups, but visor x being locked to core y when i like the helmet of core z is really annoying and overly complex for a system that has potential. i’d like to weapon skins tied to spartan armor too, instead if having to change them 1 by 1 you could have a Class that changes all at once
If there was a greater variety to armors I wouldn’t be as concerned about the core locks, but with only around 40 pieces total per core, it is a terrible idea to lock them away individually. I’m even more irked by the fact that the “shaders” are core-specific as well. Does this mean that my pre-order “bonus” isn’t even guaranteed to be usable if I’m on Mk V[B] instead of Mk VII?
Just like forge and co-op are coming post-launch. When would we see it then, two years down the road after they finish shipping us the full Halo experience that should have been there on day one?
I whole heartedly agree. A game that pushed the envelope to so much customization options now restricting you to only use what they allow you do is a complete and utter downgrade. In previous halos everyone could show off their type of style, in many more variations then this game is allowing. It is a really sad experience.
Agree! The entire core system is not a good idea.
“OH NOOOOOOO! Other people have more options for customization. My life is ruined.”
Don’t want to mix and match the armor piece than don’t. I should not be limited to your low standards.
Making multiplayer cannon was one of the worse choices that 343i ever made. It should have died with spartan ops.
This is a big issue for me. I think armor cores are a terrible idea. I think the lack of color customization is terrible too. I’d pay for the materials, but to pay $10 for white and red is really bad. Now I can’t even customize armor because I found out what an armor kit was after the purchase. If anyone has any colors that they’ve used for a long time then I feel for them. There is always a chance that their color scheme will never see the light of day. In that way, they’ll never truly feel comfortable with infinite’s customization. It’s a very unsatisfying, costly, and unfulfilling system.
That’s the dilemma I’m in right now. My colors have traditionally been Ice Blue with White accents and the closest I’ve found so far is the Zeta Sky coating from the pre-orders. I’m now finding out that coatings are core specific and worrying if the Zeta Sky will be Mark VII exclusive and not usable on my Mark V [B] armor.
I feel for you then. The best we can do is leave feedback en masse and hope the revision is better. The current customization is like hitting the randomize character button, then equipping an emblem because it has a legendary stat to it.
And to think, we’ve been telling them for almost two years now that these changes to customization were stupid and going to enrage the players.
I mean yeah. But half the game is free to play.
Win some lose some.
I 100% agree.
The truth is that I will continue to play no matter what 343 does with the customization because I love Halo. However due to the current progression and customization system being so restrictive (armor and colors locked to specific armor cores) and unintuitive (does not clearly explain this when making purchases) I have friends that have already quit playing because they feel unrewarded and “cheated” when they spent the $10 on the battle pass or a bundle and cannot customize their Spartan as they see fit.
343 clearly sent a message to the fans that Halo Infinite would be the most customizable and expressive Halo ever but it seems like a serious step back from Halo Reach and MCC. I hope they change these systems soon as I feel the veteran Halo community and newcomers to the franchise would greatly appreciate it and stay around for longer.
If they include vehicles and weapons, that statement about most customizable may come close to true if we exclude MCC as a whole. But if we do compare it to MCC, Halo Infinite is abysmal. Halo 3 alone in the MCC has almost as much customization as Infinite does right now, with the freedom of color selection.
I completely agree. I was under the impression that the customization was going to be based around “user expression”. Locking coatings and armor to certain cores utterly destroys this concept. Part of the reason I love Halo as much as I do is because I was able to customize my Spartan in countless different ways and make it look unique and badass. If 343 were to change it and make all of the armor universal, it would make the customization a million times better. With the current system limiting expression astronomically, everyone is going to be forces to have the same/similar customization because you can only put certain coatings and armor and certain cores. If they were to get rid of core-exclusive coatings/armor, it would make the customization possibilities endless.
I REALLY hope that this gets fixed since Spartan customization is such a magical part of Halo; and with Infinite having SO much potential as far as a fantastic art-style and honestly fantastic armor pieces, it would be a shame to see it go to waste by limiting User Expression.
Given how restrictive the armour system is with coatings and limiting player colours, combined with all of the bright MCS armor kits that 95% of people think are paid coatings unless they buy them or look real close, it’s already at the point where the system is manipulative and damn right predatory. I wonder how many people have spent money on the HCS kits expecting to be able to use those colours on their spartan. I hope those people get refunds if asked. It’s a total scam.
So… can i join? I think the armor is very important to the lore of halo.
the non-canon fractures stuff should definitely stay in their own cores. but that shouldn’t stop us from being able to have cross core for the canon armors though. In fact, the locked core system is actually lore breaking, as each of the cores and individual armor pieces are canonically compatible with each other.
and just because people want cross core does not mean they want clown costumes. my favorite helmet will be return in season 3, but it will be locked to the mirage core. my favorite chest piece, the tactical patrol cloak, is locked to the Mark V core. and my favorite shoulders are locked to Mark VII. I want to make my spartan look awesome and tactical, with the same armor combination I’ve had in past games. but the locked core system is preventing me and everyone else from doing just that.
similarly, my color scheme that I use in all games is locked to one of the fractures cores, a core that I do not use nor like.
