Armour being locked to cores is super scuffed

I’m fine with the idea of armour coatings, they all look pretty dope and makes armour look better than ever, but locking not only them, but armour customisation options to certain cores is super lame, cant use a certain helmet you like because its on a different core, or you want to use the shoulders from Yoroi and a coating from another, then that’s too bad.
The default core should always be able to equip any piece you unlock and its mega weird that this is the approach taken.
Armour kits are also set locked, and should give individual pieces instead, bought one of the HCS packs for the coating and visor, but cant change them or have them separate, so I will be refunding them for sure unless that stuff changes.

I haven’t played yet but what the hell? Why are they locking stuff behind cores let us just make stuff how we want…

I completely agree. There should only be one core, the “normal spartan” one, and it should contain all unlocked equipment, cosmetics, gear, so on and so forth.

This armor core system seems to be the unloved child of both Halo Reach and Gears of War 5’s character customization, except your “character” is a predefined type of Spartan who can’t wear anything but his stuff.

It’s the lamest shit I’ve ever seen, pardon my language.

It doesn’t affect my gameplay, nor did I ask if you cared about your armor. Don’t put words in my mouth.

they did say while back of removing that restriction but since launch is weeks away its somthign that will have to come post launch

It’s irrelevant whether or not it affects the gameplay, customization is an important part of Halo and has been for a long time, for it to be restricted so much in this game seemingly to make way for microtransactions is what people don’t like, I think. There is more to the experience of a game then just the shooting.

100% agree. They are touting how “We want your spartan to be fully customizable!” But then limit how you can customize to the nth degree.

What if I want an ODST helmet and the Castus shoulder pads? Or the Aviator helmet and the recon chest?

Honestly this is the least friendly system in terms of customizability.

Every single spartan looks the same right now. Unless you’re paying money, you’re not getting a new helmet until level 10 of the battle pass. And with how slow progression is, that won’t be for a long time.

The thing is bots have been seen to be wearing armor from each core. Like MK VII core bots have been sporting some Reach attachments. So, it’s definitely possible, but who knows why it isn’t implemented.

I just found out about those coatings that happen to be the nicest looking ones being locked behind the kits. I’m really disappointed, hopefully this isn’t a forever thing because a lot of people are not gonna be happy when they spend their money and they find out.

Yeah I thought it was one Spartan and then you customize all the armor not “lets give you multiple Spartans but one is mark 5 core and the other is mark 7”

Why can’t it be one armor and you switch the core/chest and whatever else you want with it. Seems odd

Most people like to customize in games that offer it. If it doesnt affect you either way then oh well

Yeah, I’m sad to say that I agree. Which is a shame because most everything else is awesome. I really gave the coatings and stuff the benefit of the doubt, but the customization feels the most restricted it’s ever been. It feels like 95% of the unlocks are locked behind either the premium battlepass or microtransactions. And even if you do get them, you can’t use them how you want.

To quote Mr Krabs: “MONEY!”

I am the designated driver, I see my spartan constantly.

Customization and player identity have been a big part of halo and its progression systems all the way back to H3, first time I’ve not been able to pick my correct colours and armour in 15 years

Can I join your clan? PLEASE?

It really sucks because in bot matches you can see that Mk VII core Spartans have Mk V attachments on their armor. So the armor and attachments can obviously be mixed and matched, the question is why they aren’t allowing it for players?

No.

There are some of us who actually care about the lore of Halo, and actually enjoy the immersion of having realistic armor configurations, enjoy seeing the different versions of MJLONIR and how unique they are. I love the way 343 is playing heavy on the lore with their Halo games.

Let us lore nerds have something. I mean geez they already removed Blue Team from co-op because of how much everyone complained.

Every game doesn’t need to be a non-sensical mish-mash of customization options for the casual players. I’m guessing you’re also a fan of the medieval armor they added to MCC?

Cosmetics are the only thing to unlock and earn in this game. In case you didn’t know.

Completely agree. From what I can see, the majority of nice armour pieces are not unlockable as standalone parts. This seems to be limited to the shoulder pieces (Carters, Emiles, Jorges), but it’s still pretty dumb that they only come as an armour set. I may be wrong on this, but from what I saw browsing the armour hall, you can’t use them with any other combinations. They’ve somehow managed to mess up a customisation system which was made in a game in 2010, all while touting they were going for that same customisation style. I get we are in beta but this really should have been done properly by now. Just disapointing.

If you like being restricted to specific eras of helmets depending on armour cores, just restrict yourself. Doesn’t mean we all have to suffer with this nonsense. Get a grip. And before you ask, no. I strongly dislike the medieval armours they added to MCC, but I choose not to use them. Simple as that.
