Armour Abilities / Equipment

Whats everyone thought on this topic? In war zone you seem to select lets say Active Camo and my first reaction was like “Oh cool, i’ll just get closer to the enemy base, turn it on and… oh it just turns its self on… huh”. And by the time I have reached where I need to be I’m on like quarter of a tank left. I suppose it does help balance at some degree but what I guess i’m saying is I miss being able to activate an armour ability at my own free will, hell even in halo 3 you could pick up equipment and activate it when you wanted to.

Another thing I like to talk about is the different types of armour abilities like the bubble shield (God I loved that thing). Why take it out of halo in the first place? its not exactly a major game breaker is it? You see a tank, Deploy your shield, either that tank is going to try and ram you or wait for your shield to pop. If you go forward your going to get the good news, 150mm shell of it. use the shield to create an escape or a flank. and if you have a rocket launcher or a spartan laser thats still a bigger chance that you will die first before that tank does. And In Halo reach with the drop shield, that shield would become weaker and weaker with every hit making it even easier to break through if an indestructible one was too hard to combat against. Why remove it I don’t know but if I went up against someone using one, I’d have to think about it. Same detail If I was the shield user, whatever threat i’m up against I’d have to have a think on how to combat against it. Went on a bit there but just something i’d like to see return in halo 6, even better if they could integrate it into halo 5 somehow.

Armour Lock. Another one I miss, when used at just the right time you could shred that ghost to pieces when it charged towards you, and it wasn’t always a ghost! The occasional banshee was fun to have as well. Vehicles would not always blow up on impacting this immobile spartan but upon releasing the armour lock it would send out an EMP blast at a short range that would give you a short amount of time to react, take the vehicle or run for cover. Fairly an easy one to combat against, simply wait at a far enough distance, lob a grenade and boom, he’s dead. But when a player is fighting and has some way to delay his death then he/she is obviously going to use it to their advantage. When you are in armour lock, there’s no way out and you have only delayed your death, 4 things are going to happen.(There are probably more but this are what I can think of from the top of my head.

  1. The attacker is going to get too close to you thus draining his shields after exiting armour lock giving you a more than likely kill.
  2. Back up will arrive and lead the attacker away from your attention, whether it be a lone spartan or 5 tanks.
  3. Simply the attacker is going to throw a grenade towards you and kill you (If timed right).
  4. Your attacker is going to armour lock right next to you! So when your meter has run down and you can no longer stay in armour lock his AL will protect him from the EMP blast, he will then release his AL and EMP you. most likely resulting in your death. (but if you have a sticky to hand feel free to take him to the grave with you).

Just a couple of things I wanted to get off my chest there. Any opinions on armour abilities and equipment? How should we get it? Spawn with it, go find it or maybe even earn it through reqs?

Earning it through reqs is about the worst option. I don’t mind if they’re pickups on the map, or even if we can select them before the match starts and while waiting to respawn like in Halo Reach, but they shouldn’t be unlocked through progression because that’s unfair to new players.

Also sorry but I hate armor lock and I hope it never comes back

Sorry I don’t see equipment of that kind fitting into the gameplay that 343i has made. While I did love Halo 3 and the bubble shield, Halo 5 is too fast with too big of a warzone sandbox. Armor lock also fits into what I’m about say. And I absolutely hate armor lock.
Both of those abilities will slow down gameplay to a certain degree. You cannot wait for either of those things to deactivate because warzone being warzone, the one “waiting” would get killed if he did that. Why wait when there’s 11 more bodies out there that you could kill?

The difference between armor abilities and H3 equipment is that equipment is a one time use and you have to pick it up; unlike armor abilities that you can use at any time during the game over and over again so they aren’t really comparable in that regard.

Destroying vehicles is the only good thing about armor lock, but among the problems with it is what you mentioned and that is it delayed the gameplay to almost a stand still which is never good.

There is a special place in hell for people who use armor lock. And also for the people who invented it.

Agreed. I don’t know what the guys at Bungie were thinking when they said, “Hey, let’s add in this crap for -Yoink- and giggles.” Now, regarding armor abilities, the only ones I really ever use are Sprint and Evade in Reach. With both pretty much built into 5’s gameplay by default, I can’t really say I want the interchangeable ones a la Reach or 4 back. They were fun, sure, but I prefer the Halo 5 system overall.

I don’t even think that’s a good thing. It made Asphalt like 1/1000th as fun as it would have been otherwise

I always enjoyed deploying a Bubble Shield. It’s my favorite armor ability/piece of equipment ever, and i’ll pick it over anything else (generally).
