I’ve been looking back at Halo’s history of the armory layout in games and how armor is obtained. Some games do it better than others and some just don’t do it right at all imo.
To keep this part brief I just wanna say that I feel every halo has had it good for the most part except for 5, and I’ll explain how I think Halo 6 can make it better again.
First and foremost- Don’t make it just Helm, armor, & visor. They dropped the ball on that because the past games had a better variety customization. We should be able to make our Spartan unique as possible with a big left shoulder and a small right shoulder and more.
Secondly the Armory layout- I hope to see something like reach’s system, specifically the helmets. In Reach if you bought any helm it’s unlocked and under it would be an attachment variant underneath the base helmet. I liked that, and I think it’s be beneficial to bring that back. Now we have the same helm with 10 different patterns/styles, in H5 going through the armory is a mess because of that. Imagine it being like reach’s style- “oh here’s EOD, do I want base, tiger, shocked, rookie?” Like literally just putting all of the same armor and its variants together would make looking for it easier.
Finally is how armor is obtained- with 5 it’s all packs which I hate. I miss every other way and I wish they could all come back, so why don’t they? I want a bit of 3 and a bit of Reach and 4 to come back. 343i added so much armor into the game, and if they do it again in 6, at least do it like this and spread it out…
- some armor can be obtained like in H3, get this achievement for that, do this mission on Legendary for XYZ, find all the skulls for this set. - Reach (specifically MP, CQB, & Haunted and a few others) Get a milestone for this helm, its “free” in the sense you don’t buy it, rather have these requirements met for it (CQB/MP). Unlock everything for it (haunted) or buy/obtain another variant for this one (any armor with a robot arm) Also keeping it locked until the player reached a certain rank. - Halo 4- mastering a commendation granted both new and variants of armor, mastering CTF wins, or assassinations, or headshot mastery yielded a nice reward. Another way was the specializations (wetwork, rouge, operator, etc). It felt like prestige mode in CoD once you reached a certain rank.TL;DR adding in customization elements from previous Halo games (except 5 and buying packs) can perhaps be beneficial to the armory system and feel very rewarding.
That’s all I can think of for now, but if I think of something new I’ll update.
