Armor Team Colors for Accessibility?

Want to start by saying as someone who has been pretty jaded by 4 and 5, I think Infinite is looking really good and a natural evolution of more classic Halos. I’m happy to be excited for Halo again.

I just have one concern, in the multiplayer overview they mentioned to show off armor coatings that Spartans would no longer be colored Red or Blue but instead have a friend/foe outline around them. Is there going to be any setting to turn that off and just have plain old red and blue team?
It really messes with visual clarity for me personally (where I can’t tell who’s who at a quick glance) and I imagine would be rather frustrating for players who are colorblind or have vision issues.

I think that this new mechanic Is great, honestly i spend a lot of time in personalize my spartan with colours and i hate when i go into a match and automatically my spartan change to blue or red color, all the spartans look the same!
And the implementation of the color lines is in much more games so this couldn’t be a problem for the people that play shooter games.

I personally dislike a lot of shooters that do this. The multiplayer shooters I primarily play are Halo and Team Fortress 2 which both have very distinct team recognition.

I don’t think they should get rid of the feature, it’d just be nice for there to be an option for people who either want visual clarity or have colorblind issues for sake of accessibility.

It annoyed you so much that you mabaged to played through and support 5 iterations of it in pvp? . Lets be homest with oirselves and call it for what is. another profit driven sales gimmick that dilutes halo core DNA for no gameplay reason other than straight out monatisation . I’m really loving the player first philosophy already

Watch the forums explode about team killing rising to epidemic proportions .

Are you calling the changes to personalized armor colors a gimmick? It also doesn’t change the Halo core DNA sense Spartans outside of multiplayer has always had different colors. I would say it’s an evolution rather than dilution.

I hard disagree .but I nestly think the will a revision back red v blue after player feedback/ backlash after testing and or release

You can disagree all you want however they are not going back to Red vs Blue. This is long overdue and honestly feels like it should of happened a long time ago.

You can both argue like children as much as you’d like, however it has nothing to do with the topic of the post. I agree with the OP, if it is difficult to identify friend/foe for any reason then an option should be included to override the new color system. It should be completely optional, and therefore would solve all issues at once.

I think they should’ve made team-colored lights part of the armor, so people have bright red/blue glowing lights on their shoulders, chests, legs, and heads alongside the outline to make it more obvious at a glance.

This is definitely a valid concern. I do think there should be some sort of option for you to choose whether you want player outlines or RvB. But we will see whether the outlines are good enough once the flights start.

The most common type of colourblindness is red/green, so the current system is failing so many people already.

Hopefully the new system has lots of options; line colour, opacity, and thickness. For both friends and foes. Then there will something for everyone.

While a fan of the armor coatings, I am color blind and worried that I will not be able to easily distinguish between friendly and enemy.

I actually like that idea a lot. They should still include colorblind options, but having a clear, on the armor indicator of friend and foe would make it easier to quickly see who’s on your side. Maybe the outline system is flawless (outside of colorblind options) but until we flight it there is no way to tell. Team-colored lights would be a nice addition that would only really benefit players.

> I imagine would be rather frustrating for players who are colorblind or have vision issues.

Colour blind players would actually benefit more from the new system than the old one. But it does depend on which colourblindness.

I also think the Outline will be adjustable to be whatever colour you want so Colour blind players wont get shafted by the blanket Red vs Blue rule. At least I hope so.
But to address what you said:

If it isn’t in the trailer or mentioned I’m going to say It’s not in there. I understand if that is frustrating. I personally believe you would get used to it, as I’ve not played any games that colour an entire team a specific outside of Halo.

Unless your in 343 management you really don’t know jack . Gaming industry flips and flops on all sorts of features all the time be it feedback trends player backlash ect ect .

Red v blue nay never return or it may be back at release we can only speculate .
never say never in gaming

It’s not going to. It’s using simple logic. Good luck though with your hopes with going back to red vs blue. It is a pivotal part of their micro-transaction plans. The backlash would of already taken place and it hasn’t to the degree needed to even have a chance of changing it.

Haha we will see

Yeah Red vs Blue is out the door, for the better. It’s an archaic system left over from a bygone era of FPS games that wasn’t even unique to Halo when Halo adopted it. No other FPS basically uses this system anymore and has characters that are harder to see in more dense environments and players still make out the enemy just fine. In fact you could remove RvB from say Halo 3 and it would work fine (and it does in thousands of custom game types) because in reality everyone just uses the waypoint/service tag to identify team mates. Customizable outlines and a returning waypoint system is the way to go forward, for microtransactions or not.

Well I’m glad we will have the outlines. And won’t be something like cod with people hiding in dark corners. Which brings up the question will we be able to still pull off anything sneaky

Hello guys I’m colourblind and I’ve played almost 1k hours on Overwatch, where there isn’t any team colours, and I’ve played it without any problems.

p.s even Call of Duty doesn’t have team colour and even there I can still play very good.

There aren’t any problems for colourblind people trust me.
But if you wanna talk about the Halo DNA, this is another matter.
