Buy packs in the store with req points. Many convos on best way to get gear, I would personally recommend not buying gold packs to start.

You can only get armor through req packs. Start by buying Silver packs
You can also get REQ packs for completing commendations and leveling up. Although these usually aren’t the best.

No! Just no! Bronze first, then silver and finally gold! If you want to unlock everything this is the most efficient way.
Start with the Bronze packs first. You will get way more for your REQ points this way.
I saved up about 30,000 RP and bought all Bronze until the “Nadir” emblem and REQ “refund” came up (this lets you know you are basically done with Bronze packs).
After that, I moved to Silver and I’m getting much better stuff per pack.

I’ve been doing the same. Also, you can get armor by completing other achievements. For example, if you watch all five episodes of Nightfall on Halo Channel you will get the Nightfall armor and helmet, and if you complete the “Legend” achievement on Halo MCC (beat every mission on legendary) then you will get the Helioskrill armor and helmet. There are others as well but those are the biggest I can think of.
