It’s too late. 343 had a money printing machine at their fingertips with Infinite but they squandered their opportunity for greatness due to greed and this “broader audience “ they wanted to cater to. Now the irony is their audience is arguably smaller than ever since they took over.
I hope other developers look at games like Infinite and Battlefield 2042 and say “let’s not to do any of that” in their meetings.
I don’t care about the store anymore. 343 hasn’t been showing evidence that cross-core is coming any time soon. I don’t care anymore. I won’t buy stuff for a core I won’t use, and I won’t buy stuff for a game I don’t want to play. It’s that simple. 343 could be rolling in whale money like any other microtransaction/gacha game out there, but nobody wants to play Infinite. It’s just super boring and aggravating to grind for little to no reward. If I wanted to grind for little to no reward, I’d play Destiny or some MMORPG. I never have fun playing Infinite, so they won’t be getting any money from me until the game is fun like older Halo titles. It’s really that simple. I don’t care at all about the prices. I care about the quality. I won’t support a game that doesn’t care about the fans. Even gacha games care more about the fans and feedback than 343. 343 is fishing in a pond with no fish left in it. They can make the bait as pretty as they want, but there is nobody left to bite
It’s not actually lower since JH’s departure, armor sets were 1200 and have just been up. Even 1200 is too much. I stand with ya man, fingers crossed they will improve.
When everyone says, “I like this!” In the current store, why would that make the marketing team increase the price? Aside from eventual inflation, that is.
That’s rough, man. As for me, I let my money speak by buying stuff. I love the things I’ve purchased! Can you believe how many people have enjoyed 100+ hours and paid $0? I’ve been surprised by how much time I’ve put into this game. It’s the only F2P game I’ve liked!
I gave up on this game because it never mattered how much feedback we gave 343i. They were only ever interested in trends. That big update back before Season 2 made it crystal clear. They were well aware of fans begging them to add legacy features from past Halo titles into this game, and they ignored pretty much all of it. They acknowledged our feedback, and told us to shut the f up. 343 does not care about this game, they only care about this game’s store. That’s why the prices are dipping, because people stopped caring about the game which means less people even look at the store. Now theyre fumbling to reverse that even though the answer has been shouted at them for nearly a year now:
Make a Halo game that fans are willing to pay money for. Not a Halo store that features a shallow and stale free FPS with Halo skins.
This company is going to die like EA, and I could not be happier. It’s a slow bleed, but it’s just the beginning.
We’ve already seen increase shop prices because; and this LITERALLY comes from the mouth of ske7ch “we’re trying to see what we can get away with”
You’re blinded and indoctrinated to believe these devs actually care wether or not we have fun. They’ve proven since 5 they don’t care about development of a good functional game, they outsource it to Certain Affinity and others. Warzone and Forge were NOT designed by 343.
What was? Req packs, halo infinites forge. The decision to take armor that was already available in previous games and put them in the store at literally a third the cost of half a game.
That math comes from the fact that as of now, campaign is the only paid thing, and it didn’t even ship with the literal staple of halo
343 will continue to raise prices simply because they can. Inflation has nothing to do with it.
Did you miss the entire story from Oblivion Horse Armor to, well, current year?
Oblivion Horse Armor was basically the first mainstream “microtransaction”. It was essentially an experiment, successful one despite all the controversy it gathered.
From there it was “On-disc DLC” which was downloadable content which was literally on the disc you had bought, and could unlock by paying a little more.
It’s gone from from expensive skins, to gambling mechanics ála Loot boxes ( surprise mechanics ), to timed exclusive Battle passes and timed exclusive items, all for money.
They have research done, there are psychologists on the team for this.
Made up Currency like “Credits”, “Coins”, “Crystals” and whatever else unimaginative name they can come up with to disconnect items in the store from real world currencies so you are less inclined to think about the real currency cost. Rarity tags like “Legendary, Epic, Mythic” etc with all the shine and sound to go along with it so you feel “special” for buying things that are anything but what the rarity implies it is.
So, with everything the publishers and developers have done to rake in as much money as they inhumanly possibly can, why wouldn’t they increase the price?
Everyone has their price. Some people will only buy a burger if it costs $1, others if it costs $5. I chose not to buy the Enlightened Path mythic effect at 2000 credits, but I happily bought the more recent one with the firey smoke effect for a few hundred credits. If that makes me a bad man, the consider me bad to the bone!
That’s how business works. A smart businessman will charge as much as the customer is willing to pay. Various travel and tourism websites will even use your search and click history to determine the optimal price for you to buy from them. Also, prices for everything are less than they were the first foew months of Infinite (because they were too high to get the most buyers. A few people paying $20 vs. tons of people paying $10 makes the seller charge $10, if they’re smart).
Blinded and indoctrinated, eh? You sound like people who yell at others because they choose to believe in some god or shop at Wal-Mart. I don’t really care what the devs think; if they produce good and services I enjoy, that’s all I need to stay on board.
Buying something in one game doesn’t mean it will be any cheaper in future games. I a gree that it would be nice, though.
That’s pretry cool! Business psychology is huge, and the amount of research that goes into that stuff is immense. Getting into the mind of the customer to convince them to buy more sounds reasonable to me.
Yeah, it’s lame that I am forced to download (own a disk) updates for things like characters in Smash Bros that I’ll never pay to unlock (no Min-Min fore, thank you).
If people simply won’t pay higher prices, they won’t raise prices higher. Unless they just aren’t smart busnessmen. They’re always going to test the waters to see if they can get away with higher prices, but too many people stop buying, they’ll either lower prices or go out of business (or both).
Then youre empathizing with predators. Theyre not trying to ‘convince’ anyone. Their goal here is to put as much social pressure as possible on somebody to buy stuff, basically sending them all the signals that say, “you NEED this item… If you buy it, you will feel good and you will be superior to those around you.”
Add to this the fact that everything in the shop is on a time limit. Now, not only are they manipulating our little monkey brains into buying worthless garbage, they are sending a different signal that says, “Buy it now before it’s gone.”
This is predatory, this isnt cool. Remember EA’s Battlefront 2? Remember how much business psychology they used to “convince” their players to buy those loot crates? Remember how it ended up landing them in legal trouble with the US Congress for how nefarious it was? Yea, the current video game business culture really hasnt changed much since then. Theyve just done away with loot boxes.
Stop empathizing with predators. At least the things they manipulate us into buying at wal mart have some real world value…
Yeah, that’s how marketing works. When people see a happy family wearing Old Navy clothes in an ad, it causes them to think “My fiamily will be happy wearing Old Navy”. I won’t pay Old Navy prices, so too bad for them, but that’s effective marketing nonetheless.
I live how I live, and you live how you live, buddy.
