Armor options are serisouly lacking

Does anyone else feel like all of the armor options in this game are really bad? I mean personally there is only about 10% of the armor pieces that I would actually wear. What is up with half of the helmets not having a visor, or having some artsy fartsy visor that looks like poop?

Set aside all of the gameplay issues, custom issues, forging issues, playlist issues. Just forget about all of that which is already frustrating and scroll through all of the armor options. 90% of it is ugly as hell. Reach at least had some good looking armor, and I would wear my recon from halo 3 over all of the bad choices in halo 4 even.

What do you guys think about the armor options in this game?

Some are good some i dont like. Same as Reach.

They lack, like-ability.
Halo reach i was always cycling through gungnir, recon and security helmet. My all time favorite helmets in any other halo game. These helmets a few look cool a few are awesome but the lack that like-able personal feel to them.

Ya security in Reach was nice, kind of reminds me of operator (the one I currently am using). But other than operator, recon, and the mark IV helmets I think most of them are garbage

Theres obviously more armor in this game than any other one, but all the good armor sets are from pre ordering bonuses. Which kind of sucks considering if you didnt pre order from a certain place to get certain armor, it takes forever to get and isnt as impressive as it should be because everyone will just think you pre ordered it.

Who ever thought the raider was a good design and should be included in the final product let alone the exclusive waypoint armor needs to be sent back to the mail room. Oh look it’s the mecha Pug Dog Killah. Most of them really suck except for the Specialization ones. For some reason they look okay to me.

yeah i have stuck with recon, still the best looking helmet purely because its simplicity. the other designs are too complex and over done. bring back the original hayabusa from h3!

I totally agree, alot of them look more like Transformer’s heads rather than legitimate helmets. I miss my Grenadier Helmet from Reach.

Armour in Reach was the best, most of it looked usable like it had a purpose. Armour in 4 is a mess.

And why do the boots look like their missing a bit in the middle?

I may never forgive 343 for absolutely ANNIHILATING the commando helmet…

What… even… asdsfgresd.

I get trying to grow the game up and make it gritty, but there’s gritty and there’s -yoink-y, and they pretty much threw aesthetics out the window with armor design in an attempt to make it look industrial. Take a cue from Sir Johnny Ive and keep the designs artistic. It just makes sense with the skybox, scenery, etc. to have good looking armor, not a Dead Space rehash…

use all white + EOD, you look like a storm tropper for some reason

> use all white + EOD, you look like a storm tropper for some reason

No offence but I am not trying to look like a storm trooper, I am trying to look like a badass spartan.

I will say this though. Some of the new visor colors are pretty cool. It is just too bad that 50% of the helmets don’t have visors to show off the cool new color schemes they made

I find myself liking a bunch of the helmets actually. the other peices of armor all look the same to me so I just go with matching pairs, but the helmets (oceanic, and hazop specifically )

I like the helmets in this game more than any other game that has customization(not just Halo).

I do find the torsos and shoulders to lack diversity in design, but the arms, legs, and new visors more than make up for it for me.

I am fine with the armor variety right now because there is a lot of choice, though much of it I will never use. The thing that really irks me is the secondary color changes on the armor as a reward for doing some of the harder/more time consuming challenges. The secondary colors are just do not “pop” enough to really even notice the design variance making the armor a bit lack luster considering the challenge.

The armor in all the other games looked functional.
These don’t, they seriously feel like the designers asked their 12 year old children what looks cool, and made everything sharp as knives.

I have my favorites for Halo 4. Reach was more practical because the armor designs weren’t too futuristic and exotic. It was good for the game and fit the setting.

The GEN 2 line of armor has many exotic armor pieces, not to mention is lighter weight armor compared to the GEN 1 configurations (Mark IV-Mark VI). Much more high tech compared to the GEN 1 armors due to the modifications you can make to it (support upgrades, tac packages, native sprint, AAs etc), which allows Spartans to engage combat in a variety of ways.

Plus in Halo 4, a ton of armor choices to allow for more unique identities. At least there is -Yoinking!- unlocks at the higher social ranks, unlike Reach which was a total grind aka boring.

I have no idea why Pioneer made it past concept art stage. It’s the ugliest helmet in the game IMO.

I’m disappointed with the E.V.A. helmet. I repped that since my first Live acc in Halo 3. Now it looks too egg-shaped and every time Palmer says “egghead” I feel like she’s yelling at me :frowning:

I have my favorites though. Same as Reach. Although I think the Reach ones looked less diverse but more “standard” and functional. Some of the ones in H4 I’m like “how would anyone see in that helmet?”

I actually like the armor design for halo 4. it feels fresh and more spartan like than reach(to me at least) when i look at the helmets i dont notice the no visor ones cause i think of it like iron mans full face “window” style visor even though he only has 2 eye holes. so that don’t bother me.

the one thing i dont like is that chest armor and leg armor dont link up, at least in the other games it was held by the belt armor, now er have armor pieces just kind of glued to the body and leaves the hips pretty bare.

and 2 more things i think would be really cool, if they changes the HUD’s translucent texture based on the helmet(not HUD mechanics, just the look), and or color, and let us know what pieces of armor people have on in the service record. there are too many “second” versions of armor to really tell if that particular piece was a lvl unlock or a master ordinance unlock

The main issue is that the armors don’t seem seem to be designed for a specific, practical role.

They all look too similar and aren’t distinct as previous versions, where you could tell what that armor could be used for.

For example: CQB (looked very clear what it’s purpose was with that knife), EOD (Was large and bulky to protect against explosions), GUNGNIR (Had a single eye-scope that enhanced a sniper’s capabilities), and EVA (Looked just like an astronaut’s helmet).
