Now to the point: Is it just me or does is seem like a lot of the armors appear inspired from other games? Venator looks like Isaac’s Advanced RIG from Dead Space 2/3, Oceanic looks like an old diving helmet (Bioshock), and Locus looks like something straight out of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Also, 343i is going to score some major brownie points from fans considering you can make your Spartan look like a GEN1/SII. (Full MKVI).

> The armor–or, actually, the entire artistic approach taken in Halo 4 is much maturer than previous titles. Reach’s armor/Spartans looks like Legos while 3’s seemed too heavy/fat to actually do anything. With the armors in Halo 4, I could actually imagine one of these soldiers sprinting 40+ mph to kick an Elite’s skull in.
They look more real, I’ll give you that, but…
Honestly, I feel like a lot of the armor, particularly the helmets lack character. Especially the visor ones.
I mean, it looks like a cluttered blob of sci-fi where a head should be. I can’t picture a person behind all those little groves and weird indents. They look more like droids, and even then, I don’t see much of a theme or feel from these helmets.
In ODST, the squadmates had visors that could become transparent, and the shapes of the helmet were simple enough that they worked well, weren’t overbearing and looked human. The helmet had a feel and it also read well as a design.
I personally don’t see that in almost all of the new helmets. I just see a mess, with no center of attention or cohesiveness (a visor generally does that well, but most of them lack a big, simple visor). I do agree with Concord that the re-imaginings do work well though.
They look more real, but not artistically pleasing IMO. And really, in a work of fiction, I think that should come first.
