You would be able to see armor if…
It didn’t blend into the matching color undersuits.

Armor does matter.
It doesn’t affect gameplay, you do. Your armor is meant to be YOUR Spartan.
Classic and Enhanced movement doesn’t mean crap, you don’t pay attention to armor because there’s a crap ton more now.
Halo 5 has 229 Armor and 238 Helmets, you’re obviously going to be able to distinguish the types of armor from a game with 200+ compared to Halo 3 with less than 20, and Halo Reach with less than 50. Going back to Classic “Halo,” as the kids call it these days, isn’t going to change anything with armor. It’s still not going to affect gameplay. (Unless they make another Icarus messup)

> People have already endlessly critiqued the armor design and the fact that earning armor isn’t as satisfying as it was in previous installments, but those issues don’t really matter since players can’t actually see armor in game. Since Halo 5 is built around enhanced mobility, maps are significantly larger than in previous Halo games. Gone are the days of walking through tight corridors and fighting in close engagements. Close quarter engagements in Halo 5 often consist of Spartan Charging and/or thrusting, which is chaotic and quick.
> When Halo consisted of closer, slower engagements, players could always distinguish another player’s armor. This means that even subtle differences in design could actually be noticed in game. In Halo 5, designs have to be much bolder to stand out, which is the main reason that the most exclusive armor is a unicorn head. Bold designs in Halo 3 such as the Katana and Security helmet could be distinguished from across the map.

This is the reason I couldn’t give a poop about armour in Halo 5. Heck I have 1,5 mil reqs in my store and still roll around with recruit armour and couldn’t care less. People think I’m a smurf when they check my stats and see recruit armour lmao.
Halo Reach in my opinion was the game where armour mattered the most (didn’t play Halo 3 much) and where you could notice another players armour in firefights. Amour mods were linked to rank and not random unlocks so you really respected people with the big shoulder armour or that ghost skull helmet.
Halo 4 the only distinguishable thing in-game was players helmets and their visor colours. That was the only way you could tell who that pro on the other team was. Everything else looked the same in gameplay.
Halo 5 every single armour permutation looks exactly the same. The only time I have ever noticed a spartan look slightly different IN GAME while fighting is when somebody is wearing Emile’s armour and helmet. literally everything else looks the same so I don’t bother with armour. It all looks like stock armour to me due to the fast pace of the game you never stop long enough to notice any differences.
So you are completely correct and I’m surprised this has never been picked up on before.
But I doubt they will ever slow down gameplay just so people can appreciate each others armour more so ah well.

Slowing down gameplay to make armor more visible during matches may or may not be a good idea, but there are also other things they could do that would increase visibility of armor. For one thing, how about being able to view other players’ Spartans and stances in the pre-game lobby? It’s nice to see and recognize another player’s armor and visor while in a match, but most of the time, that doesn’t happen during gameplay.

By the way, I’m not sure if this is true. Just look at Halo Reach’s BTB maps (Spire, Boneyard, Hemorrhage, etc.) and compare them to Halo 5’s BTB maps. I think it’s clear which ones are more cramped. But, I still see your point.
Yeah. Ive recently got back into Halo. Bought an Xbox a week ago. The armor looks janky from a distance and so do the animations. Even up close the armor looks weird. A very big step back from Reach. Armors in Reach were very well done. Pretty pointless to even have so many of them now. I barely look at my character compared to Reach. And the new BR is kinda lame. Everytime I find a Halo 2 BR on the ground I swap it. Such a good gun. Cant believe its locked in the req packs. Lame.
I agree with ya’ Bobby. I very much noticed people’s armor in H3 and Reach during gunfights. It never affected how I would perform in that fight, but it was cool to notice that that guy has recon helmet, or that guy has the haunted helmet. I don’t think it had much to do with the slower game play (still a factor), as I can still relatively comprehend the armor of my opponent in H5. I think the issue is that in H5 the armor is very saturated as PurplePowErX6 said. You can kinda see what their wearing, but you can’t really appreciate the minute details that each variant offers so they all just look the same. I’m only referring to the helmets mind you. The armor aside from that is nigh impossible to really comprehend. Especially because a lot of them are just reskins with different names. I would genuinely appreciate if H6 and onwards still had customization, but just more distinct options. Like I would really appreciate that, especially if it means less armors to unlock seeing as how I don’t want to have 120+ things to choose from/scroll through to get what I want. I mean as stupid as this is about to sound, armor is a decent chunk of the reason I like Halo. It just doesn’t feel as fun to me if everyone looks the same.
You should assassinate people more often. There’s nothing quite as personal as ripping someone’s heart out from behind, it’s like getting to know them in about a second and a half.
Sniping is another good way to admire other peoples’ armor.

> Honestly I never noticed armor in past games either. I don’t care about cosmetics at all really. Never once did I say wow his armor is cool. However I would like to see more cosmetics earned through game play and kept exclusive to what ever it was to earn it.
Halo 4 Fotus armor really stuck out for me! I always found it an intimidating armor and always admired it
I don’t know about you, but I can still see other peoples armor during the game. So no need to remove sprint.

If only we would get something more than an animation and a Medal for doing so.

Fotus armor sticks out all right, just look at that horn! Lol
That is true that armor does not do anything for gameplay or anything regarding that fact… but i do love my badass armor.
Yeah we need to go back to the reach system

Want a hug instead?
Armor has never mattered in halo

> I believe Halo reach did everything right. There was a credit system allowing players to choose what they wanted instead of it being gambled for them, and the armor pieces were distinct and visually appealing. H5 has such saturated armor and style that there’s no difference to see in actual gameplay.
I agree halo reach did it right with armor and credits
I don’t know about you but the second or two I’m fighting someone it feels like time slows down. That’s what I like about halo 5. The old titles didn’t do that (I do prefer them though). And you wanna look cool when you own the enemy
Undersuits are part of the problem. Changing those back to black or slightly different shade from main armor color would fix a lot of issues.
The movement system certainly hurts how well you can see armor. Granted, it’s more important to shoot than admire, but I’m all for removing the movement system. Utter rubbish.
I’d also like to see far fewer armors in Halo 6. The in universe reason for armor was that it was specialized to certain tasks. The problem I have with armor now, is that it’s like the UNSC has created armor for extremely specialized tasks, and so have the outside armor manufacturers. I’d rather see that we have around 5-6 sets with far more customizable parts.
I’d also like to see crotch plates come back…
Totally agree the new Armour isn’t as good as the old
As far as I can see the armour is totally aesthetic so it’s kind of a moot point I think. If different armour made a difference to gameplay it would be very interesting, e.g. of some armour was less protective but you moved faster etc (forgive me if this is actually the case).
