A detail i’ve noticed in most armors in Halo 5 that appeal to me more are armors that have pouches and are more bulky than slick looking. Sure in lore all Spartan IV’s GEN 2 armor is produced to be less bulky for a cheaper value, but what makes the Spartans great for me is that they looked like juggernauts and actual tools of destruction that could take more bullets than the regular soldier. Spartans with pouches and ammunition straps was another thing I liked about the Reach style of mjolnir. It gave a more militaristic feel to the Spartans than ever and I felt like I was an actual special unit of the UNSC. Also the fact that Spartan IVs in Halo 5 don’t even have the UNSC label on most of their mjolnir any more really bothers me and makes me question who was the guy in charge of scrubbing away the UNSC logo off of all the armor. What made me like the Spartan IVs was that they were the change of how the UNSC would stop creating Spartans in secret and actually let troopers from most divisions join to be the best and what other way to show that you are part of the best Military force out there by showing off the Logo of the UNSC in battle?
As for the aesthetic vs. more practical armor I can easily see how one could fall on either side. I myself think I lean more aesthetic. As for the non UNSC labeling of Spartans I think that was mainly for deniability and targeting. Obviously all UNSC forces know who they are. Aside from the original sneakiness, I like to believe it’s a big morale boost to have these “unknown Demi-Gods” fighting on your behalf.
I know this will sound silly but wears my crotch plate? How is the upgraded MK 6 Gen 2 armor a “upgrade” when you take away the one thing stopping plasma or ballistic damage from destroying my daddy bags. Bro, technically obsolete or not, if my gene homes are cupped by a titanium diaper- that’s more enough a upgrade to me.
But on those pouches, it also helped bring some realism that I’m taking out my mags from these pouches- not from thin air.

Its not silly and its another thing i’ve noticed with this so called “upgrade” where we basically lost our titanium diapers for cheaper and lighter armor! Seriously, what is the point of lighter armor if it won’t fully cover important parts like GEN 1.

Shielding and the techsuit is more than enough to cover your crotch. Also, to answer a question from your OP, most if not all Gen 2 platforms are made by third party companies, and sold to the UNSC, so the UNSC logo is more than optional. Also, the stupid look of most armours is due to 343i hiring artists who have no idea what Halo is, and getting them to make designs. This can be applied to the lore because the UNSC is basically 343i.
Hardly any of the Halo 5 armor appeals to me. All looks silly and unfunctional. I find my self more attracted to old halo styled armor.

Sorry my friend, but I can’t take that chance. I like having the peace of mind knowing my Spartan can carry on his lineage if he so chooses. But your point is certainly valid my friend- if nothing else you should be able to change out for different tech suits that can compliment the GEN 2 armor style. The older armors certainly have a better appeal with me because the older halos story felt more grimy, bloody and dirty- that the war was truly a war- with trauma and bloodshed and sweat and tears- This halo feels so polished and censored
343 is more than capable of saying something along the lines of “the unsc revived many older designs in order to give their Spartans more choices” (obviously better worded, I’m no grim). Realistically, all older armor designs could get the Memories of reach treatment and come back. The UNSC seems to be all about more and more designs for their Spartans to pick what works best for them so why wouldn’t they upgrade old designs? For example I’d wear CQC(from reach) Gen 2 if I could
They still seem alright to me in all honesty, I don’t mind how the armor is slightly modified because to me it’s still nostalgic enough.

This is a old topic but thought I’d follow up. While I have some doubts about some armor designs, I believe 343 should still keep the GEN 2 armors as it adds more options and choices. The older armors I like more but those seem more exclusive to the older branches- update their hardware and let that be that or have the old GEN 1 armors as they are and use them till they are usable no more.
Like the newer armors seem more to rely on shielding and technology and favor agility as a strong suit, whereas the older armors were more bulky and seemed more to protect the investment of the Spartans as they were expensive to train (IIs and some IIIs)
Something like that.
