Armor Customization ideas:

Lets face the facts, One thing that many Halo players look forward too with every Halo game, Is personalizing their Spartan/Elite.

Given that this will be the first Halo game on a brand new console, Naturally, The Customization should be taken to the next level too.

So here are just a few ideas I thought up of. Sidenote: These ideas apply to both Spartan’s and Elites.

  1. The Helmet:

Like Reach, The Helmet should feature a base variant and then attachments for it. Possibly make it so that these attachments are not tied to specific helmets and make them available for all helmets.

  1. The Visor:

I think Halo 4 got this down just about right. We should have plenty of choices for this. Possibly Visor skins as well, Allowing us to have Cracked Visors or Skulls.

  1. The Chest:

Like the helmet, The Chest pieces should have the base variant and then attachments which you could apply to all Torsos. Things like Ammo packs, Health Kits, Knives.

  1. Shoulder Pieces:

Once again, We should have the base variant and then attachments. Things like Sniper rounds or Knives.

  1. The Arms:

Once more, Halo 4 introduced this option. Not only did we get this, But the arms also changed the hands. Something which was nice I guess. Keeping this the same would be awesome. On top of this, We should get Wrist pieces, Like in Reach.

  1. Utility:

Pretty straight forward. Halo Reach had the option to add Utility pieces onto your Spartans right leg. These were things like Hard Cases, Med Kits and Ammo packs. Bringing this back would be sweet.

  1. Legs:

Yet again, Pretty straight forward. The legs would also customize the boots. Because, Why not?

  1. Colours:

Instead of the older Colour Pallet, Why not a full blown Colour wheel? This has been something that we have needed for quite some time now. We should be able to select Primary Colours (Base Armor colour), Secondary Colours (Selected by Armor Skins) and Under suit Colours (For the sake of customs and FFA, But would not show up in Team games).

  1. Skins:

One thing Halo 4 introduced that I loved were skins. I think Armor skins would be a welcomed addition into Halo. Just don’t tie them to specific pieces of Armor.

  1. Emblems:

Allow us to select where our Emblems appears on our player models instead of a single preset location. Keep all the classic emblems as well, But give us a full blown emblem editor. Allow us to build our own Identity’s instead of using the same as others.

And thats just about it. Just something I thought about while waiting for some games to download.

Thoughts?

I agree 100%.

love this.

Ammo pouches all the way. I loved those things and I actually looked like I was ready for battle.

I didn’t like the skins because they made the armor look even more unnecessarily complex and even more ugly. (Sorry if you use this armor but Protector DRFT is a good example of the skins making armor look bad.)(opinion)

I prefer the simple emblems we have now and I don’t think that a full blown emblem editor would be the best idea. I would like to choose where the emblem is placed though.

Otherwise I agree with all the other points.

Hopefully when we can customize our Elites we can attach Needler ammo. It would make my day.

I agree with all of this and then some. I would also like to see emblems have customs placement but also size adjustable as well.

I want it to be like H3’s armory but with some more options for helmets, shoulders, and chest pieces. It’s simple and streamlined. Every armor stands out from one another, and the texture of the armor is just right. Not too gritty and dirty, and not too shiny. I guess they could add visors as well.

Halo Reach’s armory was a bit overwhelming to say the least, and no one would even see your wrist, utility, kneeguard, robot arm, or helmet attachment in game due to the onslaught of action, so what was the point? It’s like what they’re doing in the Sims 4, allowing you to change the details no one gets to see in actual gameplay. What’s the purpose?

The same answer I give about Hats in TF2;

To be FABULOUS!

And Badass…

BUT MOSTLY FABULOUS!

I’m ok with everything except for the emblem creator. We all know what that would cause.

> I’m ok with everything except for the emblem creator. We all know what that would cause.

I should off been more specific with this idea.

I meant we could create our own Emblem using existing emblems. Instead of just 2 layers of it, You have a full canvas you can play with and all the emblems. So you could scale, crop and position all the different emblems to form a sort of ‘Mega-Blem’.

Confusing, But it’s hard to say what I mean without some for of image.

I think Halo 5 Guardians should allow some finer details of armor pieces to be toggled on and off. For instance, remove shoulder pauldron upper plating for mobility and speed. Remove hardware status lights (as seen on Torso and Shoulder) for better stealth dynamic, etc. Of course these’d be aesthetic and have no effect on Gameplay whatsoever.

really liking all of these ideas, good thread op.

Couldn’t agree with your thoughts more OP.

Halo 5 Guardians needs to combined the best of both worlds from H:Reach and H4, while adding a few new features to further the customization options.

I’m really big on the utility option. While the sleek and round look of the Spartan IV’s in Halo 4 made them aesthetically more futuristic, the armor did not seem practical in the least bit. Off the top of my head, only one armor set actually included utilities, and I believe that was the “Soldier” variant, which had 4 pistol magazine pouches on the front chestpiece.

I always thought it was pretty easy to distinguish armor in Reach. (Although this may have been because mostly people used the same helmets and I was an armor fanatic. Spending probably 10 minutes changing pieces after every game.)

Hell to the yes!

I think some armor should be exclusive to achievements and ranks like in Halo 3. Seeing the elitists with their katana’s inspired me to get it and all the other high class armor!

Armor should be reflective of status as well as just fun ascetic.

great ideas… but i was thinking more along the lines of cutting, if you will, the visors. like in need for speed how you could “cut the rims” on a sliding adjustment. for example have the odst helmet “my personal favorite” being able to widening and or thining the visor on a x and y axis at certain points on the helmet. so in the end you would have a completely custom helmet. if this makes any sense, i feel my vocab is falling short to express what i mean. i could draw it better than talk about it soooo.

Thanks for the awesome thoughts OP! Here are my thoughts on your thoughts, and then a few of my thoughts:

  1. Agree
  2. Agree
  3. Agree
  4. Agree
  5. Agree
  6. Agree
  7. Agree
  8. I’d love to have a full color wheel as much as the next guy, but that could be a big task for coding for in-game purposes. I’ll discuss my idea for armor coloring down below.
  9. Agree
  10. I agree with you to a point. I think personal emblems should have custom placements…to a degree. I’ll discuss my idea for emblem customization down below.

Okay, here are my ideas that I had already thought of that just happened to be tied to the points you had made.

For armor coloring, I personally would rather have the option to be able to select the color for each piece of armor. That, coupled with armor skins, would give a very unique set of armor for each player. Even if you don’t have more color selections/options, this would be a huge customization improvement that I don’t think would be as large of a strain on the system as rendering from a full color wheel, though it is admittedly a different approach to armor coloring.

For personal emblems, I think they should only be placed on specific pieces of armor, such as only the chest (and back), shoulders, arms, and helmet. The main reason I say this is to keep people from putting any number of “creative” emblems around the cod piece (front or back). I really can’t see too many people wanting an emblem below the waist for innocent reasons. Also, while I’d love a more fleshed out editor (think Guitar Hero/Rockband), I think again that that’d be too much of an issue for coding for in-game purposes. A (possibly) better option would be to have more layers built within each symbol that can be cycled through to give people more options in what they’re wanting.

Along the lines of emblems, however, I’d love to add 1 (possibly 2 emblems) to what is available to use. These emblems could be toggled on/off, depending on the player’s preference. The first emblem would be a “Clan Emblem”. It’s been confirmed that a full Clan System is not going to be present in the MCC (no word, obviously, on H5), but there will be “Clan Tags” in the MCC (think what is available in some CoD games), which I think we can assume will be available in H5 as well. If such is true, it’d be awesome to have a separate clan emblem that has only select pre-determined locations to be placed (chest, shoulder, back). This emblem would otherwise have the same customization options as the personal emblem. This would be optional for a player, but would be great to show-off what clan you’re a part of, along with a Clan Tag.
Another emblem that I think would be awesome, if relevant, is a rank emblem. Again, this would be an optional emblem that a player can select. The rank options would be either the 1-50 rank, the military rank if used (Recruit-General), or both. These emblems, like the Clan Emblems, would have pre-determined locations that the player has the option to select from. Unlike the other Emblems, these cannot be modified other than what is shown and what location it is placed in.

One final customization addition I’d like to have made is a “Preferred Weapon”, which has two purposes. Firstly, this would only be visually seen when a player’s Stance is seen, as well as listed on the player’s Career page. Second, this would have a gameplay benefit of quickly showing teammates what a player’s preferred weapon is before jumping in a game, which could help designate team roles.

Sorry this is so long, but I’ve got tons of ideas floating in my head :stuck_out_tongue:

I liked the skins idea in H4 but it felt limited, I’d prefer it if the skins were all round so no matter what armor you were wearing you could use any skin.

Can’t really find any faults in the ideas presented. As long as they give us a clean baseline model of each piece then I’m happy. One of the problems I had with reach was that different pieces forced you to have a pouch or something which I’d rather not have. I’d also like to see them expand on what Bungie did with the EOD helmet in Reach, where there was a version that removed some of the baseline features of the helmet. It would also be nice if you could mix and match the attachments. Sometimes in reach it was annoying if you just wanted a top attachment but it automatically came with a side one, or if you wanted two together that weren’t ever paired.
