Armor Customization Feedback - Can makeing F2P customization addative rather than subtractive

Hello 343i Team,

I want to start by saying I’m really enjoying the game. My friends and I are die-hard Halo 2, 3, and Reach fans and the Inifinite multiplayer has got us coming back to matchmaking like it’s 2009! We’ve also thoroughly enjoyed the work y’all did with the MCC and will likely be getting the campaign.

That said, I want to provide some feedback on how the armor customization system feels to me. I understand that with the Multiplayer going F2P, the primary source of revenue on it is via battle-passes, custom armors, and boosts. While this is not my preferred model for a multiplayer, I understand and can accept it. That said, to me, it feels really bad that I cannot have the degree of color customization for my Spartan that I had as far back as Halo 2.

I understand that F2P monetization is different than the old premium monetization. But I would really like to see it add to customization in a way that is additive to our ability to self-express, rather than subtractive. In other words, it would feel less like we were having content removed if we still had the ability to set a primary color plus an accent color. 343i could still sell alternate or premium color palettes, armor pieces could still be earned through the battle pass, and still have premium store content. But at least we would still be able to have the same armor color that we’ve rocked since Halo 2.

Thank you for your time. Enjoying the game, and I cannot wait to see how the game continues grow and improve!

This should’ve been the compromise they came up with, static primary & secondary colours to freely choose & coatings exist as the premium option.

There was a post aboutt an alternate system where you could potentially buy coatings, change their colors/textures, and pay for premium colors/textures. A lot of people said they’d pay money for that. They definitely could have been additive rather than subtractive.

Also, they could stop lying to us. They said this coating system would increase player customization. But that’s simply not true, and I believe they know it. I’d have more respect if they were honest.
