Armor Cores (as they are) limit customization and don't offer the values 343 promised. Here's a constructive proposal

the upcoming unique Armour Core might have similar issues potentially.

I made a suggestion that everything is cross core, except if it floats or clips a lot (like reaaally clips, a little clipping isn’t gonna hurt anyone, there’s already clipping here, there was clipping in MCC too)
When you are looking at an item (in BP or in the store) it tells you what armor cores it is compatible with. This makes everyone happy, those who think some items won’t look good on other cores and those who just want the freedom to customize their spartan how they want

I don’t understand why anyone would be against cross core customization. If someone wants to make their spartan crazy looking why should you care? And if it clips through, who cares? It’s not your spartan. Create one you like and let people create whatever they like.

343i may say clipping is why they won’t. But my belief is they just wanna sell you something multiple times

Yeah, only took the first day playing infinite to see how 343 is full of it.

I like this suggestion a lot. If the visual glitches become prevalent between two specific pieces, just make those pieces incompatible. It should be case-by-case, not based on the art style. People should be allowed to be wacky.

You know Jefecito has a point people wore Security shoulders & the Grenadier Chestplate & not one mention about clipping was made

What if they just (as a general rule) make helmets, wrist/hip attachments, shoulders, and visor colors compatible? And anything that would have clipping issues, is exclusively listed as “incompatible”

They should just make everything cross-core.
If people don’t like it, they’ll complain.

I mean personally, that’s how I’d prefer it. But I understand to some degree why other people might not want to see weird combos.

I think perhaps the most player-friendly way to do this would be to allow us to create a separate “Fallback Spartan”: a Spartan combination locked to a single core, that has the limitations we currently have.

There would be a corresponding toggle, so that people who choose to have it enabled would see your single-core, Fallback Spartan rather than your main cross-core spartan. They have similar options in games like VRChat for safety and moderation reasons.

Basically, make it so you can press “Advanced” and be taken to an advanced customization screen with all items available, and when you press “Basic”, it deactivates it and reverts to limited options.

They should make a feature like kits to save advanced customization sets (and basic sets) though, in case you want to go back to basic customization for a while.

Honestly to me I see the separate Cores as pretty restrictive, especially for those who are unwilling/unable to buy armor to customize with. Not everyone has time to grind out the Battle Pass and and not everyone has the cash to hand over for cosmetics in the game. I like having free cosmetics from events but restricting them to only the event cores just seems wrong. If we could customize out Spartans with any part we obtained no matter what core they came from I feel that would lead to a much more healthy feeling customization.

Shortly after writing this I came across an interesting article.

https://gamerant.com/halo-infinite-armor-customization-mods/

It talks about how modders were able to enable Cross-Core customization with “minimal difficulty”. I don’t want to sound rude or ungrateful for the game we got, but if a couple of people who only relatively recently got access to the game and coding could do this so easily, what excuse does 343 and Microsoft when they have people there who coded the game from the ground up over what I could only assume to be for years.

As much as I hate to be a cynic, I have not a single doubt they made this decision primarily to give them an excuse for reselling cosmetics to us. The new Firefall helmet is literally a slightly modified version of ODST, which we already unlocked on the MkV[B] core.

They didn’t let us mix armor because they knew they couldn’t sell us a helmet for $7 if we could already natively use the nearly-identical version we already have. So much of this game feels like the primary focuses were microtransactions and ESports

I wouldn’t doubt it.
Most of the problems in the game regarding customization and other content seem to be from trying to copy the other companies making billions for nothing.
At this point, if things don’t greatly improve in about a month (maybe not even that), I’m probably just going to stop playing Infinite.

Totally understandable. I totally get that they wanna make back the initial investment and pay the bills. I just don’t believe it was necessary to do it like this.

Halo 5 made 400 million in a well. Halo Infinite launched to PC and console gamers. If Halo 5 could make that much, Infinite could have made more. Especially when you consider Microsoft wouldn’t have added it to gamepass if they didn’t believe it’d make them more money long term. I totally agree, they didn’t need to do it like this.

I think they need to ask themselves what does Halo do to stand out from those other games. Because if it’s just copying another game’s features/store but worse, then why would people who play those games play it instead? Halo used to set trends.

I’d say pretty much every problem linked to customization can be drawn back to the store. Wonder why we have no real genuine ways to unlock content via gameplay outside of beating challenges and leveling up the BP? No money for it. Why are coatings not just a universal unlock for all gear like in Destiny? Then they couldn’t repackage the same colors for the store. Cores also seem locked to the BP like the Mk. V which means, yes, more money for customization. Hell, why aren’t there any armor pieces in the ARMOR LOCKERS in campaign? Probably because all the good stuff has to go to the store. It’s a shame.

Exactly. The only extra work for the devs would be checking which pieces don’t work with eachother, which isn’t hard. Just assign someone the job of going through and checking

Exactly this. It’s crazy to me because this is supposed to be a 10 year game. Cosmetic customization is gonna be one of their ongoing cash cows and so they’re gonna need to make
hundreds of individual items just to sustain this stuff. You would think they could afford to throw us a bone or two.

Destiny has been around for years now, and has way less restriction on armor customization, shaders can be earned for doing almost anything and they can be individually applied to different gear pieces for deeper customization. The store has new bundles every season and has a huge legacy catalog that lets people buy the old and/or the new stuff individually. They also very clearly separate Eververse content from the in-game grind content so players never feel like they absolutely need to use money to get cool stuff.
