It’s also great to see the smooth response of locking all new threads on the issue. everyone give 343i a round of applause for sucking so comprehensively rn.

> 343i, I think the community doesn’t like this move. In all seriousness I’m disappointed. Just gotta wait and see, but this doesn’t look good. You know what does look good tho? The new armor coating they showed. The one with scratches and grit. Very cool. Let down that its a coating tho.

^ Agreed. I’d be totally fine with this if sections were able to be changed to the color of your choosing. Doesnt even have to be each individual armor piece…

I mean… I’m hopeful that like ShoopWoop17 wrote, paying for the full game will give us some skins that come by default with most/all colors, or maybe the supposed battle-pass system will have all those colors unlockable through achievements… I hope… there’s no way 343 can be delusional enough to lock all the colors (let alone any of them by themselves) behind a paywall. There’s no way, right?

they may just be trying to keep this thread as the central location for the issue. Otherwise im quite sure there would be an overflow of new topics and push everything else out.

Except 343 evidently.

> Okay there’s a line every one over looked 343 did say they are making more coatings to be earned in game so the monarch and the recent coatings are just promoting infinite they will NOT monitzie this and I can assume the same will be said for emblems too so for we only have these 2 coatings to go off for all we know there could be more options on launch day so for let’s wait and when launch day comes we try it out I mean what else can we do?

Just because they say they are looking for ways to make armor coatings earnable does not mean they will not be monetized.

Mark VI was earnable in 4, yet the Champion’s armor Bundle exists in Halo 4.

Helioskrill was earnable, yet the Helmet Pack exists in Halo 5.

REQ packs are earnable, however are also purchasable. *In bulk.*Blitz packs are earnable, however are also purchasable in HW2.

They have made some items and accessories purchasable before, while making some earnable. They’ve even made a pay-to-win system in HW2, their most recent Halo title, that we’ve conveniently often forget about.

Armor coatings will be monetized. And so will other parts of the game, under the justification of the game being free-to-play.

What is 343 thinking? I can understand their need for a monetization system since multiplayer is free to play but this isn’t the way to do it. Colors are just as important to our spartan customization as the armor pieces as. I think a better alternative would be keeping only the vehicle and weapon skins a part of the pay model.

I guess we know what the POP! figure which is blue and yellow unlocks now

Can I just come out and say that the literal second that I saw that Halo: Infinite’s multiplayer was going to be free-to-play I had a feeling of dread about this happening. I mean, if any type of multiplayer is known for monetizing customization options, its free-to-play games.

No wonder the multiplayer is “free to play”

This just feels like a reverse of halo 5. We may be getting full armor customization but have to roll the dice to see if we get a good skin to go with it instead of making the spartan our own.

For alot of players, Spartans have been a personal and sometimes sentimental representation of themselves, with the color schemes and emblems carried over with every title holding personal meaning to some. Now, we’re more or less just settling on a color scheme/pattern that “looks the best I guess…”, hoping that the primary color, secondary color, and pattern scheme is something you can appreciate. It’s not personal anymore. The fact that this is something 343 doesn’t understand after years of criticism gives me serious doubts on the game as a whole.

This is the WORST customization choice since REQ packs. Why the hell would you DENY players the ability to mix and match colors, patterns, and materials (something DOOM 2016, Anthem, and Halo have done very well) in favor of shaders?

WHY?

Who asked for this? Why would ANYONE think it was a great idea to LIMIT player choice by forcing us to choose between premade skins

So you can say “Oh look at all this variaty, we have 9,293,120 coatings.”
Just like how you RAMMED the REQ Packs full of useless junk.

This is a terrible decision and whomever approved it ought to be fired.

Ya looked at Destiny and said “Oh hey lets take their most complained about customization feature and put it in our game! Player choice? What’s that? I like big numbers! More shaders equals more customization!”

No

You’re wrong, this is bad, and you should feel bad for even attempting to go through with it

This is NO different then Halo CE letting you pick between one solid color.

Just because Fortnite has skins doesnt mean its a better idea than player choice.

I’d take the two color system any day over this overcomplicated garbage.

It’s a good thing you delayed the game because it better not launch with this trash customization.

Armor looks good, but let ME chose how it looks

I wanna pick the combo of colors, materials, and Patterns.

If your gunna copy a game that did this well. Look at Anthem.

Otherwise just do the 2 color system.

Try again 343.

P.S. Free-to-play is a garbage idea too. Fire whomever approved that as well and can the whole idea.

So yeah, now confirmed by 343 themselves; armour colour IS being restriced via the Coatings.

Not good. Not good at all.

It shows that this entire time, 343 may not actually have been listening. They say (wink, wink, nod, nod) that they listen to their community. And maybe they do. But this situation makes me worried that 343 cares more about the players that they hope to obtain from this game then the players who have loved and been loyal to this series. How many times have we said that monetization is a ----->****!!!**BAD IDEA!!!<----- and pointed to Halo Reach and said: “Do it like this!”. And looked at pay-to-look good systems and said:--------------------------------------------------------->** VERY BAD
^^^^^^^^ ALERT! ALERT!

Don’t you get it? This will (and already has with brand promotions) make microsoft an unimagineable -Yoink- ton of cash. It’s well know that this game has been expensive to produce and is only taking up more resources as it sits, delayed on the table. I was a fool for not expecting it to be this bad…

I for one Hoped Beyond All Reason that 343 had the sense to prevent this and listen to our advice. I held out hope that 343 learned from their mistakes. When 343 goes: “Don’t worry, I’m not making the same mistakes again.”, I go: “No, you’re making all new ones.”

I desperately hope that I am wrong on this.

But I may have been wrong to hope.

If this is what it takes to have a modern Halo game that doesn’t have a population nose-dive after a few months, and for content for Infinite to continue to be developed over the course of the 10 years for which they said it’s gonna be the main Halo platform (as well as whole new games that I assume they’ll slot in like with MCC), then I’ll take it. As much as I liked armor customization in the prior games, I’d also like for players to keep coming back to the game week to week to earn cosmetics stuff, see what new modes/maps/events get released, and for the devs to be able to pay rent.

Yah but that’s the problem, the population will nose-dive because of this.

Its like watching an idiot babble on about how you are wrong about him being in danger while a clearly visible asteroid is heading for his exact location. You tell him the get out of the way and listen to you because his life depends on it. And he yells about how you can’t tell him what to do. Eventually, you get sick of telling this poor idiot to get out of the way and decide to let this guy earn a Darwin Award while you get out of the blast radius.

Get the picture?

If they’re smart and truly care about their players they’ll either make the old system the default one or make it to where the Coatings can be colorable. Cause it’s obvious from the promotional material that they aren’t gonna scrap it.
