Armor Color Customization in big jeopardy!

What will the default “armor coating” be? That’s what I want to know. It would be nice if all the primary color armor coatings were unlocked at the start.
Imagine jumping into a free for all match the first day. Everyone would be gray or something except for those who bought promotional products with skins.

Probably: red, blue, and maybe a few other simple colours. I can’t see it getting more crazy than that.

As someone has said earlier in the thread, we’re literally going to be walking advertisements.

Yet I almost feel like 343 cares more about the fans they hope to win through this game then the loyal fans who stuck with Halo despite their shortcomings.
> >
> > Yeah, because “loyal” fans blow their gasket before they even understand how the system will work? We have the smallest of details and already this thread is embarrassing. If “loyal” means quick to criticize with no intention to learn more, then yeah, Halo has a very loyal fanbase!
>
> Okay you have a point. But the very fact that Halo fans have not abandoned Halo after the countless times that 343 over-promised is a convincing argument that we are at least partially loyal. Yet it is hard to be loyal to a series that lets you down time and time again. Look at what 343 told us and what they gave us. Halo 4 had the worst Halo multiplayer in Halo game history, just a sheer copy of COD. Halo 5 had the worst Halo story in Halo game history, and certainly not the best multiplayer. Halo MCC was decent. But the fact that a COLLECTION of games that were not even made by them mostly is the highlight of their career is rather scary. Halo Infinite was supposed to release this Holiday. It got delayed possibly for an entire year. Halo Infinite was supposed to have next gen graphics, yet they looked on-par with Halo 5. A 5 year old game. And now, 343 told us that Halo Infinite was supposed to have character customization rivaling the epicness that was Halo Reach’s customization. And now we figure out that we might not even be able to pick our own two-color scheme? Something that has been in the series since Halo 2, which released in 2004! You may be right, but to be honest, I am getting impatient with 343. I am starting to lose all hope that Halo Infinite is a fraction as good as any of Bungie’s games. I am starting to get angry. Because we have warned them in countless videos, countless forums, and countless emails. Microtransactions are a bad idea, do not use microtransactions, Halo should not have microtransactions. And do you know what they did? They made the MP free-to-play, and the first thing they announced about it was that it had microtransactions.
>
> Does that deserve loyalty?
>
> That’s my opinion. Anyone can have their own. And I am fine with the fact that you don’t agree. I am just giving you a little insight into how little 343 has listened to us.

I think it’s also worth acknowledging that yes, we have been given very little information to go on about this new coating system and how it will function in-game. But the reason so many people have been focusing on this and have been upset is because this is the ONLY official news we’ve gotten in months about in-game features. The only reason they’ve explained the system in the first place is because of leaked images from a marketing campaign to get people to buy snack food. So in combination with giving us our first piece of real news in a long time and the sudden reveal that a customization feature that has always been in the game is suddenly gone without fully explaining how this new system works? What are Halo fans supposed to do with this information? Should we just sit on it for another few months and hope that we got it completely wrong? Maybe if 343 actually gave us an in-depth explanation on this system, and showed in game shots or footage of using the different coatings on armor and vehicles, then we could fully understand how it will replace the old two-tone color customization. But all they’ve given us is another 2 coatings to look at, and told us that this is what is replacing color customization. Fans have a right to be upset, and if the only news we get is about a controversial cosmetic micro-transaction system, you bet we will be upset.

Now from my understanding of Destiny 2, multiplayer for that game is kept with whatever custom armor you choose across the board. Now with these armor coatings being closely similar to the Destiny shader system, I think it would only be fair to say this might possibly be the end of Red v Blue teams as well and here is why.

IF the color system is out of the window and you cannot change the color of Armor Coatings then there wouldnt be an option in the game to do so THEREFORE if the option isnt there then 343i wouldnt have the ability to take armor coatings and make them into the traditional Red v Blue for team matchups (IE throwing red or blue over top of the coating to represent the team in team games). This would then fall in line with the theory of copying what Destiny has done with its multiplayer system. Hate to say it folks but the logic is there and pretty easy to follow…we might be saying RIP to the Red v Blue teams as well as personalizing Spartan color choices.

You might be right and if that is the case, then I won’t be impressed with that. There will be so much friendly fire it will be ridiculous!!! People already complain about friendly fire which I feel like should be on but if everyone’s a different color that will make it so playing with randoms is very difficult as you won’t be used to your team colours.

We will just have to wait and see what amazing things 343 have thought up next  Like I said in a few posts on here, I’m waiting for the announcement that ranked play will cost you money every month or season or some garbage like this…:laughing:

Honestly I would rather pay $100 even more, for a game that has no microtransactions and is complete then any of these free to play microtransactions garbage.

It’s crazy how far Halo has fallen over the years…so sad.

Agreed…I’ve never played either of the Destiny games (literally only play sports/superhero/Halo) but I cant imagine this being any different from that with the information we have been provided thus far.

I can actually see them removing red vs blue for teams. I mean, I don’t like it, but it will be interesting to see how the coatings will work with teams…

Have you played Destiny? I haven’t…how do they identify who’s on which team?

This horrific revelation also has me wondering how monetization will work. I’m guessing battle pass plus a store (like Gears 5)
I can’t wait to reach tier 50 so I can unlock Master Chief Green. lol this is ridiculous.
I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if the battle pass itself was free each season (like Gears 5) and they make money off special skins in a store set up (again like Gears 5) but as Halo Infinite is FTP, my gut says Fortnite level of monetization, both a paid battle pass and paid store, and that scares me.

Hey all!

The mods have been redirecting feedback about armor coating to this thread since the news broke. Upon further review, this thread was started before the news came out, and thusly a great deal of the responses in the front of this thread aren’t really applicable… making this an awkward thread to redirect to.

That’s on us, and I’m sorry for the confusion.

We’re now going to be redirecting to https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/29568daf8cd14083bd1b70a810bf3581/topics/we-want-more-info-on-armor-coating/2f93be94-b416-4ee3-88b7-e963a7618194/posts?page=1 for further discussion on the matter.

I also wanted to get ahead of a few things:

> The mods keep locking threads and redirecting to a single thread
> This is for the best, it helps keep conversation contained and flowing in a natural manner. Without doing this, the Infinite forum would be nothing be multiple echo chambers of the same people discussing the same thing.

> The mods locked this 22 page thread, they are trying to suppress our opinions
> We’re really not trying to silence anything, and this thread is here to stay and view. I can also guarantee you that 343 is aware of it already since I know they peruse the forums and actively monitor feedback.

Sorry about any confusion this has caused!
