Armor Color Customization in big jeopardy!

> > I’m low-key shocked at how universal the dislike is about this. But then again, color customization was something so basic to Halo’s identity that virtually anyone no matter what side of the coin they’re on on some rather heated topics despises this change. I just think we’re all universally bummed to finally confirm this. We had our suspicions ever since we saw the first appearances of armor coatings, and while it is nice to finally get something official about this from 343, it…didn’t help their situation.
>
> Yeah, 343’s done it, they’ve found something to unite the community on…their hatred of this decision. I’m pretty sure just about everything else 343 has done has had people who defended it, or tried to temper people’s rage, or tried to actually liked it.
>
> There’s nothing to defend here. This is a basic feature we’ve had in every halo game, that will now cost us money, and has been turned into ads for different companies. If they wanted more color customization, they could have just given us more color customization.

It’s all about making money at the player’s expense. 343 does not care for us, and does not care for Halo like the community does. The team working on Infinite, not the MCC team, is so grossly incompetent that they thought that the trailer they put up a few months ago was somehow of sufficient quality and technical prowess as to be worthy of being shown off. We all know how that went, as trees popped in and Phantoms clipped through trees and objects, grass literally disappearing as Chief walked on it.

This just confirms my suspicions that 343 management is not only incredibly foolish, to think that this decision wouldn’t spark outrage in the community, but they’re also approaching Halo with what feels like a smile on their face and a knife behind their back. They’re saying “Oh no, it’s classic, we’re bringing it back to its roots!” While showing off gameplay that isn’t classic, an art style thats a step down from Halo 5, and an overall feel that this game is going a direction that just isn’t going to be good for it long-term. 343 has been silent on almost everything related to Infinite, likely because they know there are worse things the community will collectively shriek at than this. Can almost guarantee it.

343 needs to go. This is the fourth Halo game in a row (Halo 4’s MP, Halo 5’s campaign, all of MCC for like two years, now this) that they’ve managed to seriously screw up, especially a basic feature that’s impossible to screw up unless you’re actively trying to become the physical embodiment of greed. They’ve manged to screw up the game and tick off legions of fans yet again, and the game isn’t out yet. Bravo.

> Suprisingly, I have only seen a few youtubers comment on this, but recently we have seen a Canada promotion for Chips Ahoy, Trident gum, Sour patch kids… etc. promise codes for in-game items when Infinite comes out. If you click on this link and go under “participation offer details” you will see that some of the items promised are "Granular Armor Coating" + “Monarch Armor Coating”. As you can see in the picture, these are NOT different armors but just a color scheme on the same armor. Another example corroborating this recently is people redeeming the halo toys that come with “in game items” on waypoint. What pops up is “WCT(wicked cool toys) armor coating”, confirming it again.
> Link for that hereHonestly, if color or color schemes will be paywalled this will be the first time this has been done. I think its absolutely ridiculous if this is the case. I really hope that there isn’t an egregious battle pass system where they are nickel and diming us left and right for skins, but its sure looking like it so far.

If they do have a Battle Pass system, they should at least let us to complete previous seasons like in MCC. That is, IF. I really hope that there is no egregious microtransactions in the game.

I guess I’m lucky that colours and coatings are pretty much pointless to me.

They don’t have any bearing in Campaign or the games I play in Arena - which are reduced to red vs blue anyway.

Part of what makes halo multiplayer ICONIC is the freedom to create a spartan as unique as possible.

Having full control of how your spartans looks allows the player base to immerse themselves deeper into the universe.

Halo 5 had plenty of armour sets, separated by helmets and the rest of the body, some better than others (looking at you Seeker) but the one thing that made having fixed armour bareable was the option to change the colour to match the war paint.

Reach had the most imersive customisation system by far and Its no surprise that many of us want something similar in infinite.

Before Halo 5 I could spend hours working on my armour, changing just about everything until I was satisfied.

Removing the option in Halo 5 to fully change the armour was a mistake, removing the option to choose your own colours is also a mistake.

Seriously can’t believe this, infinite seems to be a sinking ship :persevere: I don’t have much faith in this game, we’ve soon so little and everything is trash! Mechanics, Graphics, Micro transactions, Delay… What else do we need to be prepared for!

> Please don’t go down the Destiny shader route!

I agree with this, As someone who plays Destiny 2 as a side hobby, don’t do this 343, shaders are cool & all in Destiny 2 (Sometimes), but not in a Halo Title

Had my rant removed for “not being constructive”

I was veing constructive. I denoted what they coykd have done and voiced my displesure with this garbage change in coloring customization

Skins and shaders DONT belong in Halo

Fire anyone who had anything to do with thst change

If your gunna do “coatings”

Do what anthem did.

What was 343i THINKING when they did this? Yaaaay! I can’t wait to buy paint jobs for my armour, even though this was a base feature in literally other installment!

So wait, let me get this straight, I have to PAY for armor colors? I’m pretty confused right now. If this is what I think, good buy Halo Infinite, and hello Call of Duty Warzone.

With every new piece of coverage this game gets, I find another audible sigh escaping me. It gets so much harder to keeping looking for ways to defend this game when they just seem more content with shooting themselves in the foot.

This is supposed to be 343i’s chance to come out swinging and show off what they’ve learned over the years, but my optimism is rapidly draining. I understand that the team in charge of revitalizing MCC isn’t working on Infinite, but given the goodwill that game had generated, I would have thought the Infinite team would have taken some hints from MCC’s current state instead of abandoning a system that’s been in place since 2004 to opt into Destiny shaders.

Some color shaders, which has replaced regular color customization on this sinking garbage tanker, will be purchasable. Some can be earned, but its likely a lot of them will be purchasable only. A number, like the present Monarch one, will be corpartized. So the facsimile that Halo would have a uniform art-style and appearance is going to go away as they bleed the playerbase dry for every cent they’ve got.

If Infinite is crap i’ll literally go buy whatever COD is out that year.

The Demo was Ok, but this is too much. If I have to pay for damn colors…I’m not buying Halo Infinite if this is true.

2nd EA anyone?

Hey, at least EA manages to put out a game every once and a while that doesn’t have a major component that’s on fire.

343 has yet to put out a single Halo game that hasn’t had some major issue or controversy.

I was gonna get an Xbox One S so I can buy Infinite. But the way it looks now…Hell, I’ll quit the 343 Halo games. I’ll go buy CoD Warzone and play that instead. 343i has gone too far this time.

Fair point

Lol Infinite Armor Coatings is gonna be the next Oblivion Horse Armor

At least Horse Armor made your horse harder to kill and at least sorta looked nice. Given 343’s track record for skins in Halo 5 and MCC, these shades are going to have one or two decent ones and a lot of garbage.

Well…this is stupid. That’s all I’ve got to say. I love my Colors as Black and secondary as Blue. I ain’t fricking paying, for Colors. By By Halo, Hello CoD.
