Because the system is centered around the coatings which is likely because of the way the game will work - I’d find it hard to believe they wouldn’t implement traditional primary/secondary coatings.

For every possible color combination? Don’t think so.

True, that is a lot.
Again, we will wait in see. I don’t think it’s wise to draw specific expectations with so little knowledge about the game, however.

There isn’t much left for imagination when they flat out say “colors and patterns will be baked into individual skins”. Someone in 343’s design team was hoping Halo players would accept this cosmetic approach in the same way a League of Legends or Fortnite player accepts champion and character skins, as broad, tailored, preset visuals made to be swapped out frequently depending on mood. That doesn’t work with faceless characters who are supposed to be a reflection of the player themselves, especially when previous games in the series have already set a standard and direction for what to expect when it comes to in-depth cosmetic customization. Either 343 grossly misunderstood what people truly value in player customization, or they pulled an EA and knew the community wouldn’t like it and hoped the backlash would be quiet enough to just push on. Their wording in the post seems to point to the latter.

They said the in the post that they knew it would cause backlash. That tells me they probably decided this long already. I just wonder what else they will ‘fix’.

Fair enough deleting my post since links aren’t allowed, but going as far as to edit and delete other posts that are super-critical of this galaxy-brain idea to ruin customization is just dirty.
Please, everyone, don’t stop talking about this. Keep your voices at max volume. By doing so, 343 has only two options:
>If they care about the fans/player base, they’ll address the problem and implement a fix prior to release.
>And if they don’t care, either address it by talking down to us, trying to convince us “it’ll be okay” or just ignore us outright.
Yeah no this system is not okay, its just limiting something that hhas always been a staple of the halo games, i dont get why they keep feeling like they need to change it, especially how everyone has been saying to take customisation back to how it was with 3 reach and 4!
Really seems like steps backwards. Considering the red shift coating is titled exactly that, and the azure vehicle coating too, there’s going to have to be a separate coating for every applicable color under the sun, or for some coating styles “you can have in in any color you want… as long as its black”. IMO coatings would do more for player customization if they were a blueprint for the material texture/type and color spread. So coatings would determine whether your armor looks smooth or matte, plastic or metallic, pristine or weathered and using red shift as an example whichever color you’d want primarily for the legs, the color for the torso, head, and shoulders, and inner legs, and lastly the color of the forearms, codpiece, and helmet chin.
In fact red shift is already close to the kind of thing we already have in reach. And as for coatings like monarch, we can already set primary and secondary(and tertiary in 3) to the same color.
If I can’t color it spartan the way I want with the armor I want and the emblem I make and color. I’ll be angry. If infinite doesn’t succeed you all know Halo as it stands will die. They pushed back release dates “took all the fan feedback” into consideration and not to mention things like this that they’re cutting corners on have been in every halo game. Something as simple as a color pallet. I don’t want your dev designed color choice. It’s just like with MCC release, I don’t want to have 1 set of armor and not be able to interchange. Thank god they’re updating it as they go. I just hope they keep letting us see these dumb ideas so we can shoot them down.
From what it looks like with the waypoint page is that we’ll have a For Honor like color system. Wow seems like “we love to have our players customize” is BS. A few things I didn’t like about H5 was the Armor and the Emblem systems. I loved making my own emblem, sure we had like 300 picks and they are locked behind REQs and challenges it didn’t feel the same. The armor felt like they cheaped out only giving us a set and a helmet instead of shoulders, body, helmet. Even 3 had those options. I dont personally care what color my warthog is but my spartan is not something I want the least customization with.
while it seems they are going to be going into better detail with “piece by piece” armor customization as someone else said it’s 2 steps forward 1 step back.

I don’t even understand why the keep “fixing things” I feel like H4 was a good game for the most part. Remove custom classes and a few minor things and I would have loved 100% of that game. I feel like 5 I loved even less even though I played it to a point I don’t want to even get my last 8 levels. Infinite will be Halo’s new beginning, or it’s demise. Changing everything that we love about a franchise and things that have been there and have no need to be fixed is a good way to kill the fan base.

Welcome to the “classic movement mechanics” discussion.

Ehh to be fair I like halo 5 on paper. I think it’s playable even with the “advanced movement” but it just feels a bit like Titan Fall with the fast paced spartan charge, ground pound, aim glide stuff. I’m okay with just sprint or rather walking even.
I know that is isn’t part of current discussion but I digress
Halo Reach had Elites right.
Halo 4 shows up no elites (people upset and disappointed)
Halo 5 arrives still no Elites (People get Pissed off)
What im trying to say is that the Community (not everyone but majority) have been wanting playable Elites (myself included) this has been a discussion since Halo 4 so 7-8 years. 343 should know this. So far no Elites confirmed for Infinite. 343 NEEDS to actually start listening to the Core Fans (Bungie-era fans) they need to stop following stupid trends
I may upset some with this but I’m sorta okey with microtrans as long as its cosmetic only and doesn’t affect gameplay like Halo 5
In my personal Opinion Halo is turning into a game that noone recognizes anymore, it may have the title of Halo but is it really the Halo that we once loved and enjoyed?
343 needs to start listening to the fans that want the game to succeed and not what they think would make it successful
They could pull this off after 5 years of no Halo 5 with nobody having a big focus on the older games, I’m sure. But they’ve been making MCC and the old games preeetty popular again. The new kids that’ll be interested in Infinite will know that color choice has ALWAYS been an option. Nobody won’t see this for what it is and sadly, 343, all you’ve done is make it easier to remember how good we had it with Reach’s customization options. Which btw, I am more excited to have expanded in Season 4 than doing any customization at all in Infinite. Why would I want to wear Monster Energy’s “coating?” What, am I being advertised by them? No. In fact, I’d have to pay them for that.
So basically 343i have seen the way Destiny do colour customisation and thought “sure, we could do that, and that way it gives players something else they have to grind for”
This is NOT ok, colour customisation has been the most basic form of customisation in Halo since it’s inception. How are people even supposed to make machinima like Red vs Blue without being able to customise their colours? It’s completely nonsensical.
There are much better ways to do this. I never played it myself but I’ve seen videos on the way Anthem treats it’s customisation and that’s similar but actually really cool. Each armour has a number of materials that can be switched out for different textures and levels of wear / shine / chrome etc. Additionally the colour can be applied to it as a separate thing. That gives huge freedom of customisability and millions of potential combinations. Where as what 343i have described is Destiny’s shader system where only a select number of combinations are allowed which have to be unlocked and can’t be mixed together, which is hugely restrictive. In fact it sounds like it’s actually more restrictive, since at least in Destiny you can mix and match shaders on different armour pieces.
The community need to get behind this to signal that this is not ok.
