Armor Coatings Were A Mistake

I think the armor coatings were a good idea, still gives people customization options while limiting the amount of coding needed to add in the ability for players to change each armor component. I think unlocking fancier ones through challenges or events is also a good idea. The issue I have is limiting them to specific armor cores, they need to all be available for all cores, or at the very least allow each armor core to have the basic pallet of colors.

Excuse me? How does that defeat the object of free to play? That is absolutely not true, and you need to explain how. Plenty of free to play games have massive levels of free customization and are far more successful. Rocket League is the greatest example of having very great customization for free players, but also is very enticing to buy further cosmetics. Guess what, their colors are free.

Yeah, there’s no primary White and Secondary/Tertiary Orange coatings. Ive been using that color combo since H3, and now I can’t use it!

EDIT: they shouldn’t have made multiplayer FTP. Shouldn’t come with the paid campaign IMO, and the campaign should’ve been cheaper (maybe $40 - $45).

Welcome to last year when they unveiled the system and everyone so desperate for a new Halo game tried to excuse this crap with their copium.

So you want them to charge 15 year old prices for a 2022 game XD

The Campaign just wasn’t worth $60 imo. Idk, it should’ve atleast been $10 cheaper but that’s just my opinion.

You could have just subscribed to one of the game passes and got it much cheaper, finish it and get all unlocks and then never play again and usub. They price their games they way they do because they want people to opt into the subscription model.

I imagine 343i / MS accounting departments would disagree with the thread title.

(Well, aside from a few dissenters who do indeed think a mistake has been made…in pricing colours too cheaply…)

Absolutely agree.

Every previous halo had a better customization system than infinite. I’ll give infinite credit for some aspects, but they can do so much more with customization if they just tweak things.

Every piece of armor should be able to be customized, with any color and among different armors.

And dont get me started on the lack of emblems and customization options.

I initially thought it was an ok idea. I think Destiny really nailed the concept… but I forgot that 343 was in charge.

At least then I wouldn’t be feeling robbed lmao

Agreed OP, the coatings system was a mistake, as was going free to play

Idealy we should be able to customize colours the way they are able to in the studio, and to do that you’d have to overhaul the whole system and then figure out how to monetise it. the next best thing is opening coatings up so that you can apply individual colours from the coating to different pieces.

i’m both for and against armor coatings…
on one hand… we’ve lost any sort of player option between which colors we can have, with primary and secondary
on the other hand… there’s so much wasted potential with coatings. seriously, coatings could be extended into ,so many other options that’l alow player expression and monetization for 343.
color patterns, armor material, techsuit material,

color patterns… by defualt the player will have the original 2 color pattern on their spartan, allowing them to choose whatever color but the locations are set. however there could be other monetized patterns that would change the locations of said colors, maybe allow the player more color choices rather than just two (like a rainbow parrtern would give the player 4 options for their colors, with the set pattern. or a camo could have 3). again it’s player friendly but monetizable for those who want more options in color pallets or want different locations of their colors

armor matterials… self explainitory. by defualt the armor is how it is now, semi-well worn. however there could be others, like a metalic, shiny, smooth, obsidian, glossy, sparkly, etc… there’s so many to make and monetize while also giving the players more options to look unique

techsuit materials… if we look at certain coatings now, you’l see that the techsuit changes on some of them. so why not make it another option? by default it’s the smooth look to it, but other options could be… rubbery, plastic, knitted, torn up, etc… just spit balling here, but not only would it be more monetization content for an f2p game, but once again it would allow more player choice

At first i thought coatings would work like destiny 2’s shaders when they were first announced but its way worse like at least destiny 2 let’s us put shaders on different portions of our characters

“jUSt gIVe uS oLd cOlOr cUStomizaTIon”
343:hahaha good one nah not happening

What’s that you want to buy the color green again?

Alright we’ll add it in the shop

Oh they were 100% a mistake, even if they offer some cool things… Because they ARE 100% a monetization scheme. It SUCKS.

Im used to the armor coatings. And the good thing is quite a few of them are now " Extremely Super Rare " that there are halo players trying to scramble for them now.

Totally agree. Armour coating restricted customizing and hurt the game. I really hope they also consider ditching the awful BP and let people just unlock and earn them instead of being blocked behind a 2nd paywall. It’s highly restrictive in the way they set this up.
