Armor Coatings Need To Be Universal

At the very least all coatings should be used on all types of cores. Maybe except the events just because they are special. I will work on possibly buy sick armor but I will not spend money on coatings.

They told us early on, to reassure us about the coatings system, that coatings would be something you could apply to ANYTHING, be it armor, weapon, vehicle, etc. The restrictiveness of what we were delivered is not only the opposite of what was promised, which sucks for the players, but also discourages a lot of purchases since you can’t use so many things together that you’d like to, which hurts the devs who aren’t selling the coatings and armors as much as they could.

but what’s more than that which I just discovered today while looking through my armors. WHITE ARMOR COLOR IS EXCLUSIVE TO MK VII.
Yes that is not an exaggeration, I’ve gone through and seen 3 different white coatings, the bleached one from last week’s legendary bundle (which are all ludicrously overpriced btw), the light grey camo available as part of the free portion of the battlepass, and the one in this week’s ultimate challenge reward…
ALL THREE OF THE ONLY COATINGS THAT CAN BE CONSIDERED “White” ARE ONLY EQUIPPABLE BY MK VII.
tough -Yoink!- to anyone who wants to use the MK VB core they bought or the yoroi core they were lucky enough to catch the event to earn.

edit:
As an aside, even with restrictions removed, the coatings system is just plain bad compared to customization systems in the past. They had an opportunity to make something incredible, like a Warhammer-style army painter, where unique and exotic colors like metallics, mattes, patterns, and pearlescents were what they sold as microtransactions, and you can mix and match them with all the different color slots. There’s lots of photoshop concepts out there of “custom coatings” that show what couldve been, and it makes me sad that we don’t have that.

What makes it worse is that bots don’t have the same restrictions as players and can mix and match in any way, so clearly it can work, it’s just disabled for us. They think they’ll get more money out of it this way by rereleasing the same things over and over, when it’s actually making them lose sales because things in the shop don’t work on what the player wants to wear.

Yeah I agree. Personally think armour should still be locked to the core, but coatings should not. The only reasoning I can think is that it makes it might be difficult for them to make it work across every single combination every time for the more unique looking coatings. Imagine it might not be a quick fix in a lot of instances.

I’m not a fan of kits either.

Customization in general is unreasonably restrictive for no reason other than to make money, it sucks

If I unlock a coatings for one core it should be universal on every core I own, no excuse.

I say forget universal, we need them to open up the coating channels for free choice of color and just charge for textures to apply over the colors instead. Then everyone wins in the end.

Armor coatings and visor colors should both be universal, imo, with the room that they would make being used for more accessible customization unlocks.

You know what’s probably holding them back? The fact that they put in a store, that takes money to purchase things, in the beta. Now people already bought cosmetics for whatever reason, and with that how do you compensate them if you change things up now?

this is like digging your own grave as a child, noticing it’s too small when you’re a teen and making it to size. then you grow up more and make it to size more and more. Lol. This is going down in history as the first beta to have a paid for store and every single game to come out after this better learn from 343i’s ignorance.

Bots can, and you can preview any coating on any core with a waypoint glitch. They all work just fine. There are some issues with, for Example, Yoroi making the metal part of the helmet colored, but I don’t think that’s too big of a deal. And in any case, that’s only an issue with Yoroi.

What’s the issue with making it work? You can right now see how any coating looks on any core in the Waypoint app. There are no issues that appear like they’d be that hard to fix.

They would need to make every historic armour coating work on every single new armour core as intended. Makes implementing anything new much harder as you would have to make sure it is calibrated against every unique armour coating to retain its original artistic design. In a year or two there could be thousands, not super realistic and not something other games have to consider.

Maybe it is entirely possible but I specifically remember them saying the way they have built the system makes it better for them to implement new content into the game.

They use masks and the coatings are applied directly to the cores. It’s kind of automatic once they tell it what masks to apply what colors to. If they design new cores with the same masking system the coatings would get applied automatically. If they don’t think they look perfect, they could make new coatings. Players could choose to use the old or new coatings. I don’t see how it’s that big of a deal. You can see in my other post how coatings look applied to different existing cores.

Just saying there may be obstacles.

I’m in agreement coatings should not be core specific.

Yes! It is so annoying to get a brand new coating in the battle pass, just for it to not work on the armor in the battle pass.

This is literally the only change the game needs to make.

I bought the HCS set for the color and can’t even use it on any other amor set. Complete waste of money :disappointed:

Everybody says it’s to make money but honestly don’t this system doing that either.

Companies tend to think short term profits are better than long term.

I can understand it when a smaller company goes for short term profits only. They need the money to make their next game, and they likely only have one revenue stream. Once a company is large enough though, that argument goes out the window.

Not only do they need long term profits, but they also need long term respect. Why give a company who doesn’t respect you any money? It is a key requirement to long term profits.
