Ok so I know that the overall look of Halo 4’s armor isn’t the best. Some people like it, some don’t. I don’t think it looks like Spartan armor but that isn’t what this particular post is about. What bugs me with the armor selections is the hideous UNSC stickers they threw all over every piece of armor. I find myself selecting armor strictly based on a piece simply because it doesn’t have a huge emblem all over it or some graphic that defaces the entire piece. They even decided to slap the UNSC across the back of the legendary Mark V armor in the champion dlc (it was never there in previous versions). Is it necessary? How many other military groups out there have Spartans that the UNSC needs to brand their soldiers so much and how big does it really need to be? Am I the only person these that thinks the amount and size of the branding takes away from the overall look of the Spartans?
UNPROFOR forces do this a lot with their vehicles and equipment.
I get the need to have some branding on the armor but when its literally all over the Spartan by the time you’ve picked out a set it’s too much. We already have graphics all over the armor with the skins, we really didn’t need even more on top of that. It takes always from the aesthetic. To top it off they stay bright white no matter what colors you choose if I’m not mistaken. I want to go into each match looking like a battle ready warrior, not some weird robot thing that doubles as a billboard ad for an imaginary military.
Thank goodness somebody else noticed this. 343i’s art direction has shown to be weird, distracting, and absurd.
Honestly, I’ve gotten annoyed that I can pick out and find so many negatives and problems with Halo 4. How this stuff happens confuses and annoys me.
Luckly, Mark V only has the one, on the back of the chest. The DLC armour has less then the others.
I don’t mind it but sometimes it’s annoying, like when they slap a LASO skull on randomly where it doesn’t belong.
I find the white stripe down the centre of the Mark VI helmet annoying - if it weren’t for that you’d look pretty similar to Master Chief in Halo 3.
It should be optional to have the labels/decals.
Although I personally don’t find it to be too big of a deal, I still gotta say there would be more positives to getting rid of the branding all together than keeping it. I may not be as passionate about it as the OP, but I agree.

The dlc armor is pretty good. The Mark V looks fantastic and the ODST looks good too though the helmet is a little more rounded off then the previous models. The Prefect armor is even okay in my book even though its definitely not Spartan and is more forerunner armor. One or two sets of the alien looking armor is fine as long as the majority feel like true Spartan gear. I’d honestly even be okay with a set or two taking on a covenant feel since we no longer have playable elites. I just feel like they went with a crazy bold new art style that didn’t even remotely look Spartan and so they felt the had to slap UNSC on every piece as some form of visual trickery to make our minds accept it as being human. It becomes a little much. Not game breaking in any way, but we should have the option to not have that clutter on every piece.
Side note on the dlc armor integration: it’s insane how simply playing with people who are running around in the older Spartan armor like the Mark V can make the game feel more like a true Halo title. It shows how little things like the Spartan design being a little too futuristic and robotic can take away from the experience without directly affecting gameplay.
