Armor abilities for Warzone Firefight?

This is something I’ve been thinking about for the past while.

With the advent of additional Firefight modes courtesy of Monitor’s Bounty, I think it makes sense to incorporate armor abilities for Warzone Firefight. Granted, those abilities have received a pretty bad rep - which is completely understandable from my view - and that they shouldn’t appear again in a Halo title. But since you’re fighting a bunch of A.I. controlled enemies and not against other human players, nobody is going to be upset in the long run (or so I think).

Think about it - Armor abilities would be a huge help in (Mythic) Firefight when dealing with hordes of enemies / strong bosses (or that ridiculous Beam Goblin) since you can provide additional support to your teammates outside of spawning power weapons and vehicles. No longer will you be sustaining frustrating deaths, rather you’ll maintain the damage output and stay alive longer.

The Bubble Shield can shrug off practically anything (but vehicles and enemies who wander inside)
The Hardlight Shield can deflect enemy fire away (and possibly back to the shooter).
The Regeneration Field can heal anyone in an instant.
But most importantly…Armor Lock can stop ground vehicles in their tracks while also absorbing lots of damage.

So what do you guys think? Could armor abilities work in Warzone Firefight? Could they change the flow of Firefight? Let me know in the comments below!

As much as I want the Bubble Shield back, I doubt it’ll happen

A point of order: Bubble Shield was never a Armor Ability. It was an Equipment from Halo 3; Drop Shield was Halo Reach’s Armor Ability variation. There were few mechanistic differences between them (Bubble Shield was impervious to all projectile fire, and only deactivated after a set amount of time; Drop Shield maintained protection from projectiles, but added hit points to make it destructible as well as disappearing after time, and it had a regenerative effect within the dome).

Personally, I’m against the return of AA, even in Warzone. Warzone is already unbalanced due to REQs, which I think was the intent of the gametype, so the question then becomes whether making an unbalanced game mode more unbalanced matters. To me, it does. If they had to be implemented, I would put them under the power-up tab of REQs, making their use temporary and cost REQ levels. I would not want them to be passive buffs like Armor Mods. There is also the matter of mapping controls to include a new input for AAs; currently the Halo 5 controls use every button on the controller, so unless you create a two-button input or require use of paddles from a custom controller, AA controls wouldn’t fit in.

I simply think that armor abilities should be strictly limited to Warzone Firefight only; normal matchmaking would be ruined.

I like where you’re going with this but reading through Chimera30’s post I think old AA should

Be a powerup or an additional grenade type.

For example, the bubble shield would fit in a forth slot and you can only hold 1 at a time. Picking up and using/losing them works like H3

Grenade slot equipment, for warzone can be used as an armour mod like the grenade ones but has a timer on how often you spawn with the item. Can Place them in forge

  • Bubble shield, should be a shield that can be depleted temporarily from damage or destroyed completely by attacking the generator - Grav lift, useful for getting to new locations or existing heights quicker. - Trip mine, nifty little thing is used correctly, can be used to slow enemy movement or damage vehicles. - Deployable cover, function similarly to the bubble shield but cannot walk through it, instead can shoot through one side. - Jammer, pretty interesting if you know what you’re doing. - Auto Turret, helping little thing, would be good. - Hologram
Power ups that cost REQs, these can be placed in forge as powerups

  • Promethean Vision, temporary effect on spawn with a small radius.
Any I’ve missed out is because I can’t think of a way to make them balanced or useful

343i probably won’t have enough time, I like the idea, but they’re busy (or better be busy) working on the next update and all of the other stuff I’ve seen requested in these forums.
