Simple no one plays the save the world mode where the lootboxes are as the content of those don’t transfer over and iirc are only obtainable via gameplay and not through microtransactions(feel free to correct me if I’m wrong as i never played save the world)
Ea battlefront 2 on the otherhand was as pay to win as you could get with a huge grind behind it if you’re not willing to spend money on lootboxes in a full price retail game
in my country they are indeed banned, one game in my country has still literally loot boxes while others arent allowed, its so lawlessness in 2022 , especially at internet
The capital G goverment? News to me. I thought we had hundreds of governments, each with their own sets of laws. When did the world unify under one flag?
But no. Like others have said, microtransactions are not banned or illegal. The term “microtransaction” is vary vague too. Anything from an expansion pack to DLC to a skin can fall under “microtransaction.”
Microtransactions are only banned IF they are gambling for items in which you can lose, which across national borders/state borders is a business that is illegal or legal.
Take Rainbow Six Siege for example.
You have a lootbox system that has duplicates, so you can lose a “gamble”.
But you cannot buy these lootbox Alpha Packs with IRL money or the MTX money, only with Renown that you earn in the game.
Halo 5 Gorbians meanwhile has a lootbox system that offers no duplicates, so each lootbox you open is technically a winner.
Ergo, you can buy those.
And when it comes to Halo Infinite, there are no lootboxes; so MTX are perfectly legally sound.
As long as its not a weapon/vehicle/booster
Also as much as i despise lootboxes halo 5 did them right somewhat by not giving out duplicate cosmetics on top of duplicate cosmetics but they did add a crap ton of unnecessary variants of cosmetics which made it a pain to go into your armory
Also on the topic of rainbow 6 i remember there being a way to buy currency to buy the packs with they might’ve changed it due to whole ea battlefront 2 fiasco
Also people usually didn’t have a problem with lootboxes in ftp games as long as it was cosmetic since you know the games are free and the developers/publishers gotta make money to keep them servers up
The issues with lootboxes started to crop up once they found their way into paid games ie gears, overwatch, cod and it all climaxed when ea made battlefront 2

No one wanted there to be more than one version of Breaker armor or Goblin Armor.
We all wanted however more Gen-1 MJOLNIR type armor and the 8 armor sets missing from Halo 4 and Halo 4’s cut content -
- EOD Gen-2
- Hayabusa Gen-2 (scrapped DLC that never came to be)
- Hazop Gen-2
- Mark V Gen-2
- Oceanic
- ODST Gen-2
- Prefect Gen-2
- Ricochet Gen-2
- Vanguard Gen-2
It would’ve been neat to also be able to dress up in Master Chief’s Armor Set, the two new Halo 2 Anniversary armor sets that for some reason didn’t come over to Halo 5 Gorbians, and the remainder of the Gen-1 helmets that were never added while 9 of them were.
Heck, it would’ve been nice to get Gen-2 versions of the Gen-1 armors that we never got to see in Gen-2.
- CQB
- CQC
- Grenadier
- JFO
- Pilot
- GRD
- Mariner
- Military Police
Instead nah, lets give you crap items like Cyclops, Goblin, Seeker, Athlon, Breaker, Vector, and Void Dancer that you would never wear even if you were drunk.
The only way to get packs that have an actual duplicate raffle, AKA gambling, is through Renown which you grind for.
And the only way to get more renown is to buy booster packs to double the renown you earn from matches.

Ah so the premium packs made sure you never got dupes unless you basically had everything got it
No you can still get duplicates in Rainbow Six.
The only packs that don’t give dupes are the event packs, which give you a set of like 35 items and guarantee no duplicates so people with no self control spend $100 to get the whole event’s item bundle.
If it offers duplicates, you cannot spend money on it otherwise it is declared as gambling; which in many countries and states and regions; is ILLEGAL and would get the company in hot water.

That’s what i mean by premium packs ie the ones that you can(or in some games only) buy with money
If only overwatch event lootboxes worked like that when me and my friends played it(no joke got one roadhog outro 4 freaking times from those lunar new year lootboxes) i’m so glad i dropped that game before they added the hamster character
Did you buy these packs with money? Or were they rewarded?
Paid money for two and got nothing but sprays and a dupe(which was a emblem) out of one the other gave me the first out of multiple roadhog outrod
Overwatch lootboxes loved to give you dupes no matter if you paid for them or earn them
This was before Wrecking Ball was added soo . . .
I believe the law wasn’t passed yet.
That, or gambling is allowed in your region and Blizzard decided to make it region specific.
Yeah it was before the law was even a thing but even before that i despised them and the only reason why i bought 2 of those lootboxes is because i made a bet with a friend and lost
And i legit hated the people who defended overwatchs lootboxes like all you would hear was its just cosmetic its just cosmetic
Yeah? Is overwatch free to play?
No then there’s no defending that crap as if you’re going to monetize cosmetics in a pay to play game its better to have a store that allows you to buy what you want
Honestly i have to thank fortnite for making battle passes a trend
Like it still gives fomo but nothing than fomo filled gambling(ie event lootboxes) is 9000x worse
