Arena Season 9 Suggestions

Arena hasn’t changed it’s settings in 6 months. I think it’s about time for a change. Post suggestions on what the changes should be, in this thread.

-Remove Jetpack.
Reason: Arena is supposed to rely on skill to win, but jetpacks don’t require skill. In fact, they promote the exact opposite. You can break set ups with it with an absurd amount of ease, and you can break almost every map with it by flying to places you shouldn’t be able to fly to (such as going into a soft kill zone, and then shooting people, and then dropping out of it before it kills you). Example - http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=17717735&player=Secrets

-Add possibility of playing Slayer Pro.
Reason: I’ve always liked this gametype. I think it would be a fresh change up for competitive arena.

And please do not replace jetpack with anything if you remove it. Just keep Sprint and whatever else that’s currently in Arena there.

Agreed Jetpack = -Yoink-

Remove jetpack, insert classic settings, bring back old shield system (heads = faster kills, bodyshots are pathetic) a proper ranked system, faster movement speed so strafe’s actually count.

oh welcome back HALO!

Arena is broken, average population is around 2000, im seriously hoping classic brings multiple ranked playlists.

I agree with the OP, but they also need to remove radar and the awful weapons like shotty, sword and concussion rifle. This is meant to be a competitive playlist, not just Team Slayer with a more competitive ranking system.

Having gotten into doubles recently, I don’t see the problem with JP. Most players simply abuse it to jump into the center of the enemy, rewarding thier opponents with an easy kill. JP aslo supports the Halo mentality on many maps that a skilled player can take on anything. While I may die against 2-3 moderatly skilled players, my teamate will be able to jump up and pick off any leftovers. You still can’t go totally lone wolf, but you can split up and still use team work. Just my view on the matter.

Jetpack is definitely a huge flaw when it comes to playing Arena competitively. It breaks the majority of the maps and makes gameplay rather annoying. Having to look up on top of the map all game in fear of somebody shooting you from a soft kill zone is just an awful experience. All the top dominating teams that play Arena run jetpack. When used by a whole team, jetpack leads to rather easy map dominance and cheap wins. Other teams are literally forced to use jetpack just so they can keep up and keep the game close. Map control seems to have no meaning in Arena as of right now.

What I’d like for Season 9, however, is for Arena to expand to other playlists. Bring back Arena Doubles and add in Arena Snipers, Arena FFA, all that good stuff. The competition needs some variety.

I hate getting party up with irons.
I will never search alone again :frowning:
hate it.
I wonder when 343s first playlist update will be.
september or october playlist update?

I used to think getting onyx in arena meant something but it really dosent, in season 8 this summer it took me just 7 days playing 6 to 10 games a day, and one morning i got on reach and went to arena and i was already to 50% without a team and really just playing casually, and i was top 70% gold the day before.

I would like to see something like Halo 3’s 1-50 but a bit tuffer to get to fifty and make to where if you dont play for a while, your skill will slowly start to go down, but it can only go down so much, or just make it like arena and have it reset every few months.

No one here seems to understand a ranking system. A true ranking system should give you your proper rank as soon a possible. Ranks should work somewhat like they do in arena, where only X players can be a certain rank. Then impliment a system that deranks players who no longer play.

You try getting to 1% Onyx and tell me it is easier than getting a 50 in Halo 3. In my experience, it is definitely harder to get to 1% Onyx.

Now that it’s all Win/Loss, they should add in an Arena Objective. That would be sick.

You haven’t played or seen any high-level games. Jetpack is fine when you’re just playing with noobs who fly up into the middle of the map but when you play against a good team, it breaks maps.

That map brings up a good point- AA’s need to be map specific. Maps such as Countdown seem to work well with jetpack, as players without JP can still easily reach the top of the map, and players can also move down to lower levels to prevent abusing of the JP. Maps like Zealot have no reason to have JP as an option. Maps like Reflection and The Cage are set up with only the natural walkways in mind (I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that.), so the JP simply destroys the map as a whole. Maps such as (I can’t remember the name of it… It was a smaller map with a The Pit like alley in the center holding a sniper, and a tunnel under that holding rockets.) need more aggresive soft kill zones so that players can’t abuse upper areas of the map.

i played one match today, saw jetpacks, then stopped after that game. its just boring. makes maps not nearly as fun. it was fun to see what jumps you could make but now you can just go anywhere. its just NOT FUN. i almost cry when i think about all the Reach flaws.

This, and reinstate Doubles as an Arena playlist.

Another good point. I was playing on Uncaged yesterday, and felt like showing off. With my teamate right behind me, I jumped of one platform- performing a near perfect jump- to land on the other side and flank my opponents. My friend didn’t even notice as he JP’ed to the same ledge and continued on with me.

They should just apply the areana rating to every playlist, and make the numerical rating after each match be avgeraged from every match and be viewable in the player card.

Maybe they’re too busy focusing on Anniversary and Halo 4. Perhaps when Anniversary comes out, we’ll be seeing a playlist update.

Specially Take out the assault rifle dangg

ARs are irrelevant in this game
