Like many of you, I enjoy playing arena and trying to improve my ranking within playlists. I wouldn’t say I’m the best player in the world but I can certainly hold my own and finish positive most of the time.
My problem with the ranking system at the moment is that my rank is constantly fluctuating and moving up and down, it is very rare that I will rank twice up in a row. Now, arena is reset every month or ‘season’ meaning that there is only a certain amount of time for players to get the rank they want before they lose it all and have to start again. The current system is based on if your team wins, you can be promoted and if they lose, you can be demoted. That is all well and good however, I don’t think, for the most part it has a true reflection on players actual skill.
There are a lot of people who like the current system and do not wish to see it changed however, if you think about it, it does make sense for the arena ranking to be based on your personal performance. I just don’t think it is fair for anyone to be penalised who is sporting at least a 1.5KD in a game if someone else on the team is sporting for example, a 0.5KD. I know a lot of players will say that halo is a team based game and that ranking should be based on team performance however, your rank is meant to be a reflection of YOUR skill, nobody else’s so why isn’t it determined by how YOU play? It just doesn’t make sense.
Unless you are already playing in a team in party chat, it is impossible (and I am not exaggerating here) for a full team of 4 to be communicating in game chat (This is what party chat has done and thats just the way it is) So there are people like me who search on their own and have no way of communicating with teammates and just get stuck with random people. I’m not complaining here, it’s inevitable otherwise I wouldn’t be playing with anyone however, it ishighly more likely that a full team of 4 communicating is going to beat a team that aren’t and have never played with each other before. This means that a lot of people searching on their own are going to lose to people that aren’t. This wouldn’t be an issue if the ranking was based on personal performance
My Proposition:
Losing Teams
Players on a losing team who hit a 1.0KD Should be immune from being ranked down
Players on a losing team who hit a 1.5KD should be given a small boost to their rank progress
Players on a losing team who hit a 2.0 KD should be given the full boost to their rank progress
Anything 0.X should be ranked down as normal on a losing team
Winning Teams
Personal ranking still applies however, you get a win bonus
Players on a winning team who hit between 1.0 and 1.4KD should be given small boost to rank progress
Players on a winning team who hit between 1.5 and 2.0KD should be given a medium boost to rank progress
Anything above 2.0KD get a large boost to rank progress
I hope there are people out there who feel the same about this system because for me, it isn’t currently working. If you like my idea, post away and if not, maybe you can suggest a tweak to my system (or have a system of your own) that can help solve the issue.
