How does arena work? How does one get rank or symbol or whatever? I’ve just recently started playing arena and i love it but i notice i haven’t been getting those rank symbols i see when i challenge other players. I’ll i have beside my name is a rating like 1600. I dont know what that means. So if anyone can just please explain to me the process of getting a rank in arena.
Firstly, I applaud the explanation of the Arena System, please read this and you’ll understand Arena quite a bit better, though stay away from anything from the beta being referenced as this was a while back when it was posted:
Arena is a system based on your overall contribution to the team or how well you can lone wolf it while being supported by your teammates… go for being a team player, it works out much better, trust me… depending on how well you perform will determine a rating. yours was 1600. The exact table of how good that is cannot be determined because the Arena system takes into a new consideration: population percentages.
Arena population will affect your standing within the Ranking structure. For example, only the top 5% are given the prestigious Onyx Status. The best of the best. So if you have a majority of the population pulling higher then 1600 (possible though highly difficult), then you could be dropped a division because a hungry player bumped his score up with the rest of the population. Many people will find themselves in Silver status till they can work perfection into their game abilities. Consider it like a 40+ in any team-based Halo 3 ranked playlist. Go in with teammates generally and play smart to avoid unnecessary deaths/ attain assists/ get many kills. I remember talking with two Onyx status members in my clan that said their games consisted of 20+ kills, 6-8 assists, and less then 6 deaths or 15+ kills, 10-15 assists, and less then 5 deaths per Arena game got them into Onyx status. That is the general numbers I’ve heard and they were Arena last season (last month)
Past your individual game performance will give you a game rating. For you this was 1600. The game is designed to show you what your rating will get you in the overall Rating system. the higher the better. 1600 on my general scale is enough to warrant a Silver division status, maybe Gold on a low population Season generally, but don’t quote on me on that (look at population percentages) as it is highly possible that all ratings can be modified due to those circumstances. Bungie already said many could see themselves in a Silver standing, though they were only quoted for Onyx status being the top 5% so… Gold could be another 8-10% and silver… blah blah blah…
The important thing is to perform good with your team in matchmaking. Even if its one partner in double’s arena where you learn: work together or die alone… its all about how well you perform.

Depending on how high that number is determines a daily rating and overall placement within the Ranking structure after you hit 3 games each day over 10 days in a Season. Really I could explain the Arena further, but those links will cover anything else I could speak about…
I’m now understand! I appreciate how you took the effort to go out of your time to explain me how the system works. Thanks man!

None of this is true any more. They changed the system.
Arena is based purely off wins and losses. The 1600 rating or whatever you get is completely irrelevant now. What matters is who you win against and who you lose against. You want to win against higher ranked players in order to rank up.
And it is 4 games for 5 days to get placed in a division (the symbols you see in the lobby).

I do not generally play Arena so… follow this guy’s advice then. ^_^.
SOSLICK22 is right about this. The Arena system functions very much like Halo 3’s system did, it’s now based exclusively on win/loss ratio as well as the skill level of your opponents. But I’ve got a tip for you, make sure you don’t search with a buddy who’s already ranked and ranked well. The Arena’s matchmaking system pairs you up with people who match the skill level of the best player in your searching party.

It also only covers one playlist, whilst in halo 3 there was ranking for every social one. This makes Arean meaningless to Lone Wolves and is not very good at showing overall Halo skill as a result!
