So, choose, which side do you support?
I support the United Nations Space Command, in the defense of Earth and all her colonies
Inserrection, but I’m merly an A.I. Crafted for them…

Cortana you traitor I shall deactivate you!
Well when you start to really look into the political situation within the UNSC I could see myself siding with the rebels.
Neutral. I’ll kill whoever plays dirty. If you play clean, you are safe. If you play dirty, you’re dead. This applies to both sides, though admittedly more often with the Insurrectionists.
Can somebody give me a brief rundown of the pros and cons for each side? Never really read anything about them other than “they were at war before the Covenant showed up”
> Can somebody give me a brief rundown of the pros and cons for each side? Never really read anything about them other than “they were at war before the Covenant showed up”
UNSC
Pro:
Defends the colonies from harm.
Establishes and funds new colonies.
Provides free vaccinations.
Cons:
Does not give the Outer Colonies much political participation.
Office of Naval Intelligence.
Likes to tax.
Insurrectionists
Pro:
Admirable goal for more political recognition.
Cons:
Have been causing trouble ever since the Solar System was being colonized.
Have various ideologies such as Communistic, Fascist and religious extremism.
Attacks their own people.
UNSC for sure, I would NOT want a Spartan knocking on my door . . .

For a UNSC Con you forgot “Razes disgruntled colonies with nuclear weapons leaving no survivors.”
I’m afraid I would have sided with the Insurrectionists, however I would not have become a terrorist. There were multiple different groups who formed during the Insurrection and there were those willing to fight the UNSC face to face and there were those who killed civilians. For example I would have sided with the faction that Lyrenne Castilla joined. She was a part which faced the UNSC in ship to ship engagements.
They seemingly disappeared, presumably to settle there own colony far outside the UNSC and even Covenant’s influence. They were organized enough that they could build their own classes of Starship. Admiral Cole eventually faked his death and ran away to this group to join his wife, who is Lyrenne Castilla. At least this is what some people in ONI believe happened to Admiral Cole. The facts they have do fit.
After all of this however I wouldn’t carry any bad feelings towards the UNSC post Human-Covenant War. I would have taken Lord Hood’s offer to help rebuild. After all that has happened Humans need to get over things and rebuild as a people.

It was the one colony Shadow and we still don’t understand the situation behind Far Isle, and let’s not forget the Innies settign off a nuke on a planet, killing millions and creating lasting effects in terms of radiation positing and deformities.

you guys are forgetting Venezia, they are a combo of Innies and Covvie randoms

One colony doesn’t change the fact they murdered millions. If the United States were to Nuke Seattle because people began to riot, we wouldn’t forget and say “Well it was one city.” Murder is murder. I also edited my post to explain my point of view and I pointed out that not all the Insurrectionist organizations worked together. Yes some became terrorists and I don’t agree with their actions at all and I would have sided with the ones who didn’t resort to terrorism.

the whole Code Bandersnatch thing was a bit too far they must have had to deal with alot of beauraucratic BS afterwards in response to their actions, commiting genocide on a planetary scale is NOT acceptable, even if it was out of control

It wasn’t genocide, it was an overreaction that led to the deaths of millions of innocents, but genocide it was not.

But there were no survivors. Dropping a bomb on someone isn’t genocide. Dropping bombs on them until every last one of them is dead, is genocide. I mean dropping nukes on Japan to end the war was one thing but we didn’t nuke Japan until they were all dead. The UNSC did overreact but it doesn’t make it any less bad.
It was mass murder.

Never said it wasn’t any less bad, just not genocide.
It wasn’t just 1 city, it was 2 cities with an estimated death toll of 200, 000. If the intentional destruction of 2 cities and 200k people isn’t genocide, then I guess we know why Charlie Company got off easy in Vietnam.

Then you might as well say Sherman committed genocide when he burned down cities during the Civil War. The UNSC committed mass murder, but genocide is a stretch.

…any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
— Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Article II
I would say A, B and C are involved when Nuclear Weapons are used to destroy an entire independently governed colony. In fact I used Seattle as an example but really this would be like destroying the entire State of Washington instead. The United States wouldn’t exterminate an entire State and if they did you bet your behind I would sign up to take that Government down.
